  • The African Charter on Human and Peoples' Rights (also known as the Banjul Charter) is an international human rights instrument, that is tailored specifically to the African context and is intended to promote and protect human rights and basic freedoms across the African continent. The Charter combines African values with international norms by not only promoting internationally recognized individual rights, but also by proclaiming collective rights and individual duties for all of Africa’s citizens.
