    Part of what makes Silvally so bad is that it's the only Pokemon in the game that has to choose between an ability or an item. If you want to use a typed Silvally, you need to use an item for it, and if you want an actual item you effectively have no ability. The fact that Arceus could change its type in Gen 7 with a Z-Crystal and Silvally couldn't do the same is one of the most confusing things about Gen 7 to me. Silvally wouldn't be much better given its stat total but at least it'd have a strong one-time nuke like other Pokemon had.

    Why does Regigigas has to deal with the god forbidden slow start and on top being Normal type which has no resistances except for the Ghost immunity. Gamefreak did Regigigas real bad

    • @iantaakalla8180
      @iantaakalla8180 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Easy. Pokémon are not made for competitive but to exist and therefore in that sense overpowered stuff are accidents, and they never consider actual balance so Zacian exists, and so does Regigigas.
      Basically, Regigigas has lore about it starting up so it will never not have Slow Start. Furthermore, it is built that it would be far more broken if it did not have Slow Start so they will never remove Slow Start for “balance”. They wouldn’t know balance if it was spelled out for them, then forced to walk a tightrope where the weights on the pole they have are scale weights. And that is also not including the fact that Regigigas has a bad moveset.
      Zacian is built to be super strong as a legendary hero but it was given the best typing, an immediate boost to its relevant attacking stat, and a wide movepool. Had Zacian and Zamazenta been properly thought through, they would have been like Xerneas and Yveltal, a pair strong in their own ways. But nope; that one-person theory about the Darkest Day (that one hero defeated Eternatus) in the past is essentially correct given it was most likely Zacian who did the work. And Zamazenta is only viable because Knock Off is useful and Weavile exists and there is no way in hell many Zacian form will be in Ubers.

    • @NataliaNeeSama
      @NataliaNeeSama 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@iantaakalla8180 I dunno if is an "accident". Ever since Gen 6 they made cover legendaries SUPER BROKEN, even for the VGC format. Primal Groudon and Primal Kyogre are obscene! Mega Rayquaza is broken! Necrosma DM is also somehow broken.
      I don't think they making Zacian busted was an accident. I think they knew what they're were doing.

    Ngl, Silvally is the kind of mon that is so close to being great it’s sad. Some new moves, like hazards, eq, e speed, knock off and recover would help massively, and another idea would be to make the memories also give a boost to the specific type, similar to the plates they emulate. Best case scenario, a 50% boost to make offensive variants a menace.

    A video idea: as good as unused Pokémon move sets which are actually very strong. For example, a rock polish-iron defense-body press Registeel. Almost everybody that fights a Registeel expects it to setup with stealth rock, but with speed EV investment to 198 and maximum defense + boosting nature makes it incredibly hard hitting against any non-ghost type. Yes there may be 4x resist like Togekiss and Gardevoir, and Ghost types are a thing, but for the last slot there’s still shadow claw or iron head. It works really well in UU and at times even sweeps in OU, if there are no ghosts present. Another one which doesn’t work as good is belly drum Charizard. Setup screens then lunar dance with cresselia or healing wish with another screen setup and swap into Charizard if favorable matchup. The opponent almost always swaps, which is a free turn for belly drum + sitrus berry, and it can hit basically anything with Earthquake, Rock Slide and Flare Blitz.

    Articuno does have one thing going for it, it’s an excellent user of Sheer Cold. If you were Battle Stadium Singles, the cartridge game’s official ladder, Articuno has a legitimately good niche as a Sheer Cold fisher than can easily set up Substitute and fish for Sheer Colds against Chansey, Mega Sableye, Cresselia, Suicune, and Porygon 2. The reason you won’t see such set in Smogon and VGC is because the former band OHKO moves and the latter makes OHKO fishing not a viable strategy due to Doubles. And if you are wondering about Stealth Rock, you don’t have to worry as much, Stealth Rock ( and the other hazards ) isn’t nearly as common in 3v3 due to the reduced switching compared to 6v6. One team I used in SM was Articuno and Gliscor on a stall team with Mega Sableye as a way to deny hazards. Articuno and Gliscor served as a terrifying OHKO duo to improve stall mirrors, with Articuno handling Special Attackers, and Gliscor handling physical attackers. If you run Stealth Rock, it’s solely to break Focus Sashes. Here’s an article on Smogon for how Articuno works in XY: www.smogon.com/dex/xy/pokemon/articuno/battle-spot-singles/

      Articuno can also use Mind Reader to ensure that Sheer Cold hits. It may not be the most viable strategy since the effects of Mind Reader go away if its target switches out, but I still think it's kind of interesting that Articuno can do this. I'm pretty sure that no other Pokémon can learn both an OHKO move and an accuracy bypassing move... well, aside from Smeargle, of course.

    I love how your uploads are slowly improving and have become higher quality than they used to be. I love how your uploads (at least these kinda of uploads and not the ladder climbing ones) are separated in bite sized chunks and made easy to understand for both new and intermediate players alike compared to other showdown pktubers who are also roughly at your skill level as a player whether it be at competitive battling or vgc or nuzlockes or whatever gamemode they specialise in who very often tend to overwhelm their viewers with topics and uploads lasting as long as 40 minutes or even an hour which isn't inherently bad in itself. Personally I like listening to that kind of thing in the background as a kind of podcast while I do other things and the quality of their uploads usually don't really suffer from that kind of upload style. I just think you're filling a niche in the showdown community that's very beginner friendly, helping players by breaking down more complex metal into smaller pieces, resulting in them being easier to internalise and understand. I've been watching your content for a long time and I really enjoy what you put out. Sorry this is so long winded but I just wanted to say I'm going to continue to support your channel and I love the kind of content you produce.

      It would certainly help it out significantly, but there's still the issue of having to wait for 5 whole turns before the ability stops hindering it, which has always been the biggest thing holding Regigigas back from being even halfway decent at best. Because of this, I'm not sure how much this change would really help it out; just to be clear, I'm not denying that it would be an improvement, I'm just not sure if it's a big enough one to let it break out of it's current placement of being probably the worst legendary Pokemon of all time

Instead of being 0.5 atk and speed and after 5 turns get its normal stats back, I would make regigigas start at -3 atk and speed and get a free dragon dance at the end of the turn. You still need to keep regigigas on the field for several turns to make it work, but once he gets going he just keeps getting going and becomes unstoppable. Thus the reward is actually worth trying.

It's possible to use skill swap in doubles to give regigigas these abilities which turn it from a big threat to an immediately serious threat. Pairing it with Rhibombee and giving it shield dust makes moves like scald and fake out useless, and I can force a switch and/or cripple an opponent's physical attacker which I can then follow up on with support moves in after you (I think, might have been me first) and helping hand for an additional power boost and pollen puff for healing/damage where needed.

      Speed control moves like Trick Room and Tailwind are far more viable in doubles. In singles, after using Trick Room you only get 4 moves over 4 turns, one of which might be switching out the Trick Room setter for a sweeper. In doubles, you get 8 moves over 4 turns, and it's possible to lead your setter and sweeper, or to lead something like Incineroar and Dusclops, and the Incineroar uses Parting Shot to switch in the sweeper while Dusclops sets up Trick Room.

You would never use Electric and grass type version in NU when Ground is the best setup sweeper/wallbreaker of NU and Steel is a solid pivot. Same with Fairy and Ghost in PU over every other form. Gonna send this to all those uneducated people still running around with the mindset of "ugh you're cheating by using legendaries all legendaries should be banned from competitive"

    • @blueskyalchemist623
      @blueskyalchemist623 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I know not all legendaries are born great, but I honestly still can't get rid of that irky feeling whenever I use a legendary in an OU team.
      Except for Tornadus-Therian because I got Anniversary Skyla in Pokemon Masters.

    • @noukan42
      @noukan42 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is not exactly that. My problem is that using legendaries to me break the immersion. If pokemon were real there would be only 1 regigigas and it would either be illegal to disturb it would be in possession of some mega rich plutocrat. Surely won't be used by me or you and a regigigas mirror match would nevsr happen because 2 don't exist. The same goes for any legendary.
      The tier that i'd like to play is basically AG whitout legendaries, because that feel like the most "authentic" to what pokenon battling would bs irl. I know that cinderace is 100 time better than articubo, but if both would be real i could potentially catch a cinderace, but not an articuno.

    I feel like a lot of the old ones were just designed for fun in the days before competitive pokemon... and there's always going to be a few of the lesser legends that don't measure up to their "Siblings"
    The Tapus prove that Gamefreak can make good ones out of the entire group, but the Galar Birds seem to show a lack of thought... or intentionally nerfing them so hard that they can't be as good

    • @iantaakalla8180
      @iantaakalla8180 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      And naturally, the Articuno of that group is still the worst, the Zapdos is best and the Moltres is not far behind. They captured the competitive relationship between the Kantonian birds quite well with the Galarian birds.

    • @fractalisomega9517
      @fractalisomega9517 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@iantaakalla8180 I really think they all suffer from massive movepool limitations right now
      Granting them all Roost and Heat Wave (like every other bird pokemon) would solve a lot of issues there just with recovery and coverage
      I honestly believe all 6 of the birds need a stat rework to even out their viability

    • @iantaakalla8180
      @iantaakalla8180 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That unfortunately is also part of their design.
      As the birds seems to be elemental birds they seem like they only embody their element therefore their bad coverage. And Ice/Flying and Psychic/Flying suck.
      Yes, Fire/Flying sucks but at least Moltres is actually good defensively and has power otherwise.
      The other three typings are actually good.
      Furthermore, as GameFreak is loathe to significantly change a Pokémon, especially their stats, (though coverage moves may happen they are unlikely to happen when they are useful) any Articuno will suck and the birds will remain coverageless.
      And the one they put the most work into, Masquerain, is so bad that it was effectively wasted and exists to be a bad counterpart to Dewpider.

    • @fractalisomega9517
      @fractalisomega9517 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@iantaakalla8180 Stuff like Masquerain still have the chance for an evolution down the road, Legendaries don't
      And I'm not asking too much for Articuno tbh
      Ice type needs a rework and that could save Articuno-K, Articuno-G is actually pretty solid tbh access to more coverage is going to eventually happen over time
      Ghost/Psychic/Flying coverage isn't bad at all... I think one of it's main issues is how one dimensional it is right now... it always has those moves and the Competitive ability

    • @aprinnyonbreak1290
      @aprinnyonbreak1290 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Part of it is just the stat philosophy shift that started in gen 5. Gen 4 and earlier pokemon tend to be much more evenly distributed in their stats, and the legendaries are not only no exception, but are sometimes the worst offenders. Look at Entei, compared to something like Tapu Bulu. Entei is spread so thin that it manages to mostly fall short in everything, while Tapu Bulu is pretty harshly minmaxed. Or, look at Palkia and Dialga versus Solgaleo and Lunaala, or the sword dog of balanced and healthy meta. Palkia and Dialga are sporting something like 120 base Attack. Historically, Palkia actually did use that attack to punch Blissey in the schnoz, but an off-attacking stat like that is unthinkable now.
      The clearest example isn't a legendary, but Conkeldur versus Machamp. Conkeldur embraces the idea that any speed below about 55 is wasted, and special attack won't be used anyways, to trim down and specialize what is otherwise pretty much identical stats. The result is just Better Machamp.

    Articuno-G is very VERY niche, but it works as a setup sweeper in OU and UU against intimidate users at the cost of not being able to pull off recovers as often. With CM/Psychic move/flying move/recover or coverage + adrenaline Orb it does well against lead Lando very well, the issue is its INSANELY hard to pull off, and Bisharp does really well against it. In lower tiers it's good at playing Bisharps old role of taking advantage of defog users, albeit steels and darks not week to flying can do well defensively, and even if you run the adrenaline Orb set scarfers can revenge kill. Hard to pull off, but if it sets up it can be really hard to stop if don't figure out its last move

    Its funny because Regigigas has a niche in VGC/Doubles with neutralising gas or an entrainment pokemon. Its stats are pretty damn good and its coverage is insane. It has high horsepower, all the elemental punches, knock off, etc and so can be a really scary pokemon, especially in a dynamax setting.
