      more apt perhaps to insert "would begin an . . ." and it's just those beginnings that detract from your pleasurable exercise.

    Downhill step cutting is awkward and can be painful being bent over reaching down, quite glad I opted for a slightly longer walking axe, not a consideration for a lot of people and the trend to go short (~50cm) makes no sense to me whatsoever, I'm just over 6' and chose a 65cm, not too excessive and fits the old 'top of the boot' sizing, but more importantly it doesn't protrude beyond my hip when in an arrest position, it is about on the longer limit but it makes for a much more comfortable day out. Great video series, thanks for sharing the knowledge.
