    Most of the time I've encountered these I found it was easier, safer and less tiring to just put crampons on. And might even be faster as you don't waste time fluffing around cutting steps. Only worth it if it's just a very small section.

      Cutting steps is a good skill to have in the toolbox but yeah, just put on the crampons.

      This is a good skill to have in case your crampons break and you don't have any tools with you
