Will suing big meat and dairy secure climate justice?

- In recent years, state and local governments, climate advocacy groups, and ordinary citizens worldwide have filed lawsuits against fossil fuel companies for their contributions to the climate crisis. Increasingly, these suits are also targeting the agricultural sector, which accounts for some 12 to 20% of greenhouse gas emissions globally. Daina Bray, senior litigation fellow and project manager at Yale Law School’s Law, Ethics, and Animals Program, explains how litigation against meat and dairy companies could affect emissions of methane - a potent greenhouse gas that traps significantly more heat in the atmosphere than carbon dioxide - and the fight for climate justice.
