What a beautiful setting for a relaxed garden get-together with two lovely (and eminently practical) ladies. I was noting every detail about those cleverly designed raised vegetable beds.
A lovely surprise find on You Tube. If I had anyone to design my garden it would be Bunny Guinness. Like Mary I started a new garden, and had watched Bunny on TV years earlier and so wanted to copy her Ammonites pathway, which after 30 years I did, just a square meter and it reminds me of her daily, and that you’re never too old to try something new. Beautiful garden for Mary.
Never tire of watching and listening to you Mary. I first heard of you in the 1970s when your face appeared on our cookware packaging at BSR/Judge International. Love your garden, your cooking tips and wise words of encouragement, more power to you. Xx
What a delightful video. I love Mary Berry. She is so grounded and elegant. Thank you so much. I am an expat Scot living in Canada and these videos are so nostalgic. Thank you.
What a wonderful woman Mary is I adore her. She is so calming and sensible, thank you Mary for your inspiration. I too wasn’t too fond of school and cooking and creating give me such pleasure.
Thanks for the lovely comments. I always enjoy a site visit to Mary Berry's garden, not least because there's always plenty of her delicious shortbread! Mary's beautiful rose featured in the film is called Chandos Beauty.
Two of the finest English Roses ever to grace a landscape. My wife and I love seeing both of you together and would love to see a future collaboration video with Charles Dowding whose soothing voice reassured us during the early days of the pandemic Cheers from the sub-tropic climes of Australia!
Hello dearest Marry Berry! Since a few years I am having many of your cooking books in my huge shelf which is full of cooking books from many parts of the world, since I travelled a lot during my younger years. Just a few days ago I watched your movie on this platform of your new garden, which is amazingly beautyful. I was always looking for a rose which suits to my personality and garden concept and you gave me the inspiration to search for this magnificent rose even here in Germany and...... I was lucky to find it in even in my favourite gardencenter. I can’t wait the shrubs arriving soon here in my garden. I prepared the bed already to give the roses a wonderful new home for growing vigorously in the future. I just asked for one specie of the same sort only to make the bed look elegant and clean without any disturbance of other plants or disturbing colours. Thank you sooo much for all these gorgeous recipes and this wonderful garden video. Can’t wait for your new book published soon. All the best from my side and please stay healthy! Lots of love and admiration from a dear friend in Germany Kindest regards Uwe
I know Mary’s old house in penn , not far from me , there her garden was so beautiful, but this one does not look so big so will be easier , she is amazing for her age . This new garden is really beautiful , I hope she and her husband enjoy their time here . Well done Mary .
I never saw Mary’s old garden but she did show me pictures of it, yes this one is smaller but I often think when gardeners downsize they get even more pleasure from their new garden as they have learnt just what they really want/like.🐇
Happy for you both. Love the roses. About planting too close, look up bio intensive veg growing, it works well. I think that what plants breathe out at night gets trapped amongst the clutter of foliage and is a rich feed for daytime photosynthesis. As for the soil, you just need to produce tons of material for composting or you will need to buy it, thereby depleting someone else's land...and make leaf mould with your raked leaves too! it is simple, tidy, and returns goodies to your land.
I keep supplying leaves and twigs for composting by using a pleached hedge of trees that regularly drop leaves. I have an informal hedge of lilly pillies and blueberry ash (Australian natives) trees down the side of the house, and keep pruning off lower limbs and branches as they grow so the effect is a row of pleached hedged trees. We also keep the height and sides or the hedges pruned. All hedge prunings get left on the soil below. this is called the chop-and-drop method. When the compost bin contents are used or the bin needs topping up I add some of the prunings lying beneath the hedge, to the bin. The tree roots bring up minerals from deep in the ground and they reside in the trees' leaves and branches. I have several similar systems in the front and backyards to keep replenishing compost without having to buy it.
So pleased to hear you talking about the garden you designed for Mary with her.. Must be rewarding to know how much she enjoys it & see it's development .How lovely you both went to the same school (albeit years apart )& you had the same headmistress!
Beautiful , please clarify Bunny , did you say the rose was Chandos Beauty ? I couldn't quite catch it, I would love one for my garden, the colour is lovely. 🤗
I felt the same as Marry whilst in High School! Everyone from the faculty to my parents had me convinced that I was a hair's width from flunking out! Only, imagine my surprise almost a decade after graduating when I had to call my former school and request my GPA for an application that I had graduated with s solid "B" or perhaps even a B+ if I recall correctly! Had I known I was doing so well, I might have tried harder because reverse psychology , ironically, has the opposite effect on me...if that is what was intended by my peers.
Beautiful garden! Can someone please tell me the variety of the pale pink rose that is in the terrace garden? I know Bunny mentions it but I didn't quite catch the name. Thanks.
It was so lovely to find your channel today. Every video is beautifully done and provides helpful information. I couldn’t get any voice commentary on the helpful herbs video, only music. Am I missing something?
I loved this video. Such a sweet lady and beautiful garden. How I would live to have a gardener helping me. I never seem to be able to keep up and my garden is small.
Thanks for the comment Michelle. This Sunday's video will show you how to save precious watering time and we're planning a video soon specifically on low maintenance tips. So keep watching and don't despair!
Love the pink rose. As l live in NZ, would it be called by another name ? Also the name of the breeder, to try to track it down. Appellation? Its such a beautiful rose.
Hello Donna. I believe the the rose is a "Chandos Beauty". I looked it up, only to find Pam D had asked the same question a month after you. "harvinder singh uppal" replied to Pam and I was pleased I found the right name. I hope you`re able to purchase the variety and enjoy it`s beauty. Regards. Tony, Sydney, Australia.
My daughter won 🏆 Julia Childs scholarship and Mary Berry was there . My daughter had to make a speech 🎤 and Mary congratulated her , my daughter said she’s so much like her Nan .
Wondered what the pink rose was that Mary said she mulched and fed twice per year? It was mentioned by Bunny, but can't decipher it, any clues anyone?, Thanks
This is Rosa ‘Chandos Beauty’. It is a hybrid Tea rose, that repeat flowers starting around early June in UK . The flowers fragrant, and are pale apricot with pink flushes - it is Mary Berry’s favourite rose.

I cant think of anything more fun than being Mary's gardener, then being called a true friend
Love Mary, I love everything she's does! I'm so glad like minded people like Mary are still around to show the True meaning of Happiness!

At 3:44 the name is mentioned but I could not catch what was said. I see elsewhere in the comments that it is Chandos Beauty. It was bred by Harkness.

Although I did actually enjoy the content of the video, I could barely hear a word you said. Where as luckily Mary was quite clear.
If you brine aubergine for an hour it significantly reduces the amount of oil it absorbs.
Lovely. What is the name of the rose? I did not hear it.
My daughter won 🏆 Julia Childs scholarship and Mary Berry was there . My daughter had to make a speech 🎤 and Mary congratulated her , my daughter said she’s so much like her Nan .

緑と花のバランスが適度にいいと思う。
Many thanks, though not sure what you said! 🐇
What type of hedge was planted (that is hiding the tennis court), please? It has grown quickly
Yew hedge, Taxus baccata, but we got the instant ones grown in troughs from Elveden Estates, they always establish well.
Thank you for your helpful reply.
