Technically. Fairly similar to the Cardinals/Braves infield fly in the wild card game. But in that one Kozma had a read on it the whole way. This one Segura clearly wasn’t prepared to catch it til the last second.

The Mariners proceed to make one more error, and then they pull it together. If not for the vote of confidence from their manager, they might still be on the field.
Because he wasn't doing it to avoid a tag. It's the same reason that you can take an angle around first base rather than make a 90 degree turn. Rule 5.09(b)(1): "A runner's base path is established when the tag attempt occurs and is a straight line from the runner to the base he is attempting to reach safely."
To error is human..... unless you win the lottery every year for playing a game..... some of these I'd expect from a little league game..... not the pros
Those Mariners should be cutting sugar cane with a machete !!! They can play in the MLB ; but back where I came from none of them play regular !!! Rey Ordoñez was a sensation with the METS, in Cuba he could not play regular because there were 2 o 3 players better than him playing short stop !!
