  • I maxed out the capacity of my sawmill yesterday. I had a 36” white pine log. It was fairly clear- but had a horrible hook on one end. I made it all into siding, and a few 1” boards. I took a break in the rain from making firewood to get caught up on a few lumber orders.

Nathan, from out of the woods, likes to tell his viewers the measurements of the butt end of his logs.

Big pine , I’m the same, charge same price regardless of thickness you have to.

Good one. Like watching milling. Question. When you return the saw back to the starting point, do you worry or think about the band blade hitting the log on the return movement. ? I watch a few milling videos, and most people don’t worry about the blade getting fetched up on the log, while returning to start position. But, I did see one channel crank the handle to bring the blade up a bit so’s the blade would not hit. Can’t remember the channel.
    Big log, nice job. 👍🏻👍🏻
    Have a great Sunday.

I don’t even think about it anymore. The only time it’d be a concern is if I’m milling logs that have some tension and the top board might lift a bit when the blade exits. The blades are adjusted so it’s tipped down just a smidgen, it keeps the wood from clamping on the blade- keeps heat down and the heel of the blade is a few thousands of an inch higher than the cant. It works great. The set in the blade also makes sure the cut is at least .018” lower than the heel of the blade. If you see a blade grab the wood on a regular basis on the return stroke- the blade needs to be adjusted.

You may need more duct tape on your sawdust plenum.

Needs more than duct tape- the blower is at maximum capacity with any log wider than 12”.
