My 14th birthday was this year. I remember watching this game. Then I played NBA Live 95 right after. I was hyped about the NBA double header that would come on Christmas day that year. It was the Sonics Nuggets than Knicks Bulls. What a time to be alive.
The game was so good back then because these were 21-22 year olds. Grown men. You got to know players for several years and follow them. I miss it. Go Big Blue
NBC pretty much phased out their NCAA coverage over the 90s once they had the NBA, it pretty much morphed into a few Notre Dame basketball games (to match ND football) as well as a few select "specials", like here. Only exception was when ND joined the Big East they added a few Saturday afternoon Big East telecasts, Notre Dame/Providence in Feb 98 was their last game NBCSN however does air Ivy League, CAA, and A10 games so it's to some extent back under the peacock umbrella.
These were the 2 teams I picked to play for the championship a few months later but Kentucky lost in the regional final vs unc. This UCLA squad is still the only team since tournament expansion in 85 to go undefeated AFTER Jan 31 and win title. In other words, every other national champ since 85 has lost at least once in either February or March
Kentucky with those 'backgammon' shorts. My best friend was a huge UK fan, but I've always had a soft spot for the Bruins. This was the game that showed me that maybe, those flameouts to Michigan and Tulsa in years past might've been just that...the past.
Wow pretty much almost all of both teams starting five made it to the NBA! Kentucky I believe still has the highest total number of players that got drafted in the 1st round to the NBA.
"Ralph, 2.5 seconds left and they're down by three. What do they do?" "Well John, that's plenty of time for a second possession so I think you don't go for the three, you only need a two." "Ralph, we spoke about your drinking problem didn't we?"
funny so many similarities with the 94-95 season and the current one ucla beat kentucky in regular season kentucky beat arkansas in the sec final UNC beat kentucky in the southeast regional to go to the final four except they beat Arkansas this season unlike the 95 tournament
I remember that O'Bannon - Rhodes call near the start of the second half. I still wonder if that ref was on drugs or something. Or bought a car with it. :)
@@garyhoetker6646, well, considering that the foul was on McCarty I'm not sure why that would matter, but also from the replay, looks like zero body contact. I guess you agree the call was wrong though, you just thought it was on Pope, eh?
20 bucks says that John Higgins' dad is the ref that calls the foul on Rhodes at 1:02:28. Terrible call on the block at the end of the game. All ball and the idiots in stripes put UCLA at the line to conveniently win the game. No way they was gonna let KY leave with a win. It was the John Wooden Classic 🤣
I remember watching this like it was yesterday!! College basketball was so damn good in the early to late 90s

Mine as well. February. But being that this was in December, I spent the weekend at my brother’s house and we had a great time. Wendy’s and Sports.
I was 15 at this point...got Live '95 for Christmas that year...that iso angle changed EVERYTHING. We played that to the point of risking friendships!
I ate a 20 piece and watch this game!!

Yea I totally forgot NBC had college basketball.

What happened to Saturday network tv hoops games?
Seems like everything has to be primetime now
I remember this game well

both teams will win the National championship in two years 1995 UCLA 1996 .Kentucky
This was UCLA's championship winning team yes in 95 but same season as this game was dec 94
College Basketball is returning to NBC in 2023 but it my go on Peacock
I miss 1990's college basketball. NBA screws up everything.
Best era ever
Came just before one of the worst--the late 90s
Why didn’t Kristian Johnson play in this game? I remember when he was a beast at Crenshaw.

“You miss this free throw, you’re off the team.”
There are a lot of players that were drafted in the NBA in this game

both Head Coaches will get in mess with the NCAA
UK blew the game up 1 and ball with 15 seconds by turning it over.
Very true. Two bad turnovers down the stretch, but that was still a bad call on the McCarty block.
5:18...someone is a time traveler
Clean block at the end. Bad call.
Nope..Pope made body contact on the shot attempt and the foul call was right.

Roderick Rhoades....Kentuckys biggest disappointmentthat last foul called was all ball on the block....officials coat us this game
I remember feeling sorry for RR. The pressure got to him.
Foul should have been on Pope not McCarty

Ha, use his girth.

Kentucky's uniforms were awful wtf designed them they had a hell of a sense of humor.
Typical whistle
