    This is the second Chevy I have had a Blend door Actuator problem with. Both times it happened right after my battery died. Hope this saves you some headaches and money.

    The dealer told me this was going to cost me $1300 because the only way to access is to pull the entire front dash out. The part costed me $130. Thanks for this great tip! Saved me HUGE!

      I just had this replaced by my mechanic. He charged me $230. He said it was a b&^%$. I guess he was honest.

    Thanks for sharing this. Passenger side was stuck on cold and we suffered through the winter by just closing vents on that side. I ended up only being able to put two of the three screws back on... or that's as far as I got before I got too frustrated. But hey... it's working now. Thanks again.

    Thanks for the video! I almost switched out the wrong actuator. Also, taking off the bottom console trim piece was a big help as another commenter mentioned.

    Thanks for video, this was a big help - Successfully replaced the actuator on my 2011 Buick Enclave (basically the same vehicle). One thing I would like to mention/add - it would be a good idea to have a magnetized torx bit, or find some way to capture the screws when they are removed, and help start them when you put the new actuator in. I didn't have one and lost two of the screws somewhere behind the lower console side panels.
    It is tight, but there is enough room. I used a mini ratchet and was able to get to all three screws with my left hand going through the area the glove box opened up to help position and steady the ratchet, while with my right hand coming up from the bottom with the ratchet. I laid on my back with my head on the floor where a passengers foot would be. Once I figured out this was the best position for me, it went fairly easy.
    Thanks again - my wife appreciates having cold air on her side of the car again.

    It's interesting what you said about the battery dying. Both my hot/cold and vent direction actuators failed at the same time when an engine swap took place. I know it's not coincide, but maybe there's poor over oltage / under voltage protection on these little actuators.

      I am happy you found this useful. The one thing I didn't mention is that for a quick fix, you can just remove that actuator and leave it out. The default position for that swing door is to blow cold air. The drawback there is when winter rolls around, you would only have cold air on that side. Good luck with the repair.

      Thanks! The repair went really well. I did learn that if you have a long T20 you can actually drill a hole in the plastic that covers the actuator, this makes it very easy to get that pesky 3 screw in.

    My dealer wants to charge me $710 to fix this problem. My onboard computer died (thought it was my battery) and when I picked it up at the dealer, the passenger A/C would not work. I just spent $1,400 having them replace the computer and do a major service, filter replacements, etc. To have to spend another $700 is upsetting, so I'm going to try to do this myself as the result of this video.     Really good advice to drill the holes but I drilled a 3/4 inch hole. It also helps to get a bendable screwdriver that can hold a Tory bit and a mini to Rx wrench and it was still hard. It took me 2 hours but successful. I put a plastic tie on each screw after loosened and then tied that to duct tape strand or small fish line so you won’t lose your screws but the hole is most helpful!,

    Hello, I am having a problem with my actuator kn my GMC Acadia. I went to put in a new one and when I turn the key on the actuator turns all the way to the left and doesn't go back the other way when I change the temperature. Is there something that has to be calibrated or reset?

    Thanks for the help! I just completed this - helped to remove the passengers center console panel as well (fimly pull four or more tabs free and slide away - part from Amazon was spot on! It was a bit of work, but well worth the money saved! $25 part and $10 magnetic mini ratchet with T-20 bit and it did take me several hours to climb around and figure out. Thankful for the video!

    Yeah I was also successful after watching several videos and reading forums, my passenger side was blowing warm air, first I removed the wrong actuator, but that was just practice for the correct one I guess, drilling a hole worked great and also using a micro rachet from o’rileys, and another shout out to o’rileys for meeting the competition’s price, I also used a right angle drill attachment from harbor freight, Thabks again

    So only my defrost and flor vents works. Temp works fine.
    Actuators don’t move like u showed in video when changing positions.
    Should I just switch them all out?

    Just did this fix. Drilled a hole to get to the third screw. And had to use a 1/4 wrench with my t bit on the bottom screw. Also on the new unit you have to rotate the white attachment back to attach and ensure the actuator is in the right spot. Hole is not visible one you reattach everything!!

    You must have xray vision, I can't get the Torx bit into the screws. I'm not able to see the screw. Is there any trick to this. I don't really have the hundreds to get this fixed and I need the car to drive for Lyft. Very frustrating for me.

    I'm about to fix mine. I got the torx 20 bit. But other tools do I need. My stubby ratchet was too stubby so I'll probably get a slimmer one.lol should I also get an extension??

      j peezy The extension might be useful in some steps. Once you get the glove box off, it gets pretty tight in there so I am not sure how long of an extension you can use dealing with the actuator. I have heard of people drill a hole in the side where the glove box is and using a long extension through there to make it easier, but it is not necessary.

    I ordered my actuator online and am still waiting for it to arrive to replace it...the bad part is it also operates the defrost temperature on the passenger side so it has been troublesome dealing with this issue in the cold weather. I don't have heat in my garage so I have waited for the outside temp to warm up enough to make this repair tolerable. Mine went out on my 2012 Buick Enclave right after having the a/c charged. Even the mechanic is baffled as to what caused it to fail like that. Funny thing is there is no code reading that the actuator is defective but when I have the heat setting on I get heat on driver's side and cold on passenger. When I try to activate the a/c the button flashes red three times and researching that online it claims that proves the actuator door is bad. Guess I will find out soon enough. I would also suggest changing out the cabin air filter while you have the glove compartment door off. I wasn't aware of this filter location till recently and mine was filthy. So I have already replaced it. Not sure why that isn't addressed when mechanics change your oil.

    Hey. Mine is making a clicking noise when not on recirc. Even wen ac is off its still clicking. The sound is coming from above the cabin filter. Do u know wut it might be?? Actuators look like they work

    Thanks for the video, after my battery died I need to replace the blender door. Do any of you have issues with their 2011 Traverse and the battery dying very easily? If i have my radio on, a light on, or hazards, etc on for about 8 minutes after I have turned off the engine then my battery dies. Also if i let it sit in my driveway for 3 days without turning it on during cold weather then my battery dies. My battery has been replaced, fuses checked, taken it to the dealer many many times without resolution. Any thoughts or advice as to what it could be?

      @@chapincillo I haven't figured it out. All I do is buy a new battery that will die a lot quicker than it's expected life and just try to be very careful. I hate it. I had battery issues in spring and now my side only blows kinda cold air conditioning which is fine in summer but would like it to be colder, but needs to be fixed before winter so I don't freeze.

    My battery died & a brand new installed. The next morning I had no air blowing through the center vent. No air flow at all. After careful looking on TH-cam, i was able to hear what others were saying loss of air conditioning. I could hear the fan blower working but no movement of air through center vents. I've ordered this part for my Acadia. The price to have it fixed seemed very high. So, i will try to fix this issue with help of my grown son. Part was only $17.99 from Amazon. Wish me luck.

      there is another on the driver side that controls the temp for it. it was easier for me to change than the passenger side one

      @J name its driectly above the floor vent on drvers side, if your head is next to gas pedal when u look up its right on side just above the plastic trim. nothing extra to remove, just have to stand on your head about 10 minutes to work on it. the 3 screws are easily accessible as is the harness.

    what is the tool that you used to get the blower cover off called?

      dslbeatscable, I have seen it called different things. I think a lot of places call it a plastic pin remover tool. Autozone calls it a trim remover tool. If you search auto parts stores, either one of these should pull up the right one. I have found that tool very useful for all sorts of repairs. GM uses these pins in some parts on the engine as well so it is worth picking up. It generally runs less than $10.

    I removed my actuator and its moving just fine. I think the blend door it self is stuck. Can anyone comment whether or not you can freely move the blend door once you remove the actuator from the assembly? I think when the mechanics replaced the AC evap core they got the door stuck somehow.

      You should be able to test it by turning the white piece with your hand in the position without the actuator.

    Same problem for me: passenger roasting. The other servos work for the seats and the floor/top/defrost. Seems unlikely for me, but did anybody check for a blown fuse? If so, was the fuse for the whole HVAC system or was there one just for that servo? Any feedback would be awesome.

      Fuse is behind the glove box. It wasn’t blown in my case

      I used needle nose pliers to pull the fuse, unfortunately the fuse wasn't the problem

    You should have spent more time on removing the glove box door.
    My 2010 enclave door will not come off the pins. I’m afraid of breaking the hinged hangers. I think it needs to hang down more but the right corner is hitting on the interior molding.
    Update: I was finally able to remove glove box door by gently applying pressure on each individual hinge point instead of pulling up on the entire door. I sprayed the hinge points with a silicon spray to make it easier to remove if there’s a next time.

    the actuator that controls the mode (floor/vent/defrost) is obviously a lot easier to replace -- just replaced one in a 2012 enclave today. Definitely looks like the hot/cold blend one that's tucked in there further is much more of a bitch to replace and probably requires a double jointed wrist.

      Agreed! On my 2012 Traverse LTZ this is not the temp blend actuator. It is to select the out flow for floor/vent/defrost. I was fooled too until the car engine heated up then back to the same problem. I'm working to get to the right temp blend actuator. Its a real b1tch so far and not there yet, but I think I can see it.

    Never seen this happen on any Ford or Jeep. Those have their own issues though.

      Happnes on plenty of fords and you have to pull the dash to fix them

    How about you actually show us how the f you did it. Because my 2010 traverse has this fucking support for the radio going right fucking in front of 2 of the 3 torx heads.

    Although I think its great that you made a video for this, I have to say its terrible. You don't show the actual taking apart, you go and there it is taken apart. Next you show the old one you took out, turn it over and "show us" the other side and its off screen. After all that you then show us what it looks like while its in there. You really don't ever show any part of the actual process. I call this a big miss....

    Really good advice to drill the holes but I drilled a 3/4 inch hole. It also helps to get a bendable screwdriver that can hold a Tory bit and a mini to Rx wrench and it was still hard. It took me 2 hours but successful. I put a plastic tie on each screw after loosened and then tied that to duct tape strand or small fish line so you won’t lose your screws but the hole is most helpful!,
