    This is the most beautiful version of this song, I was lucky enough to see him in Rochester when I was working there in the 70's. He played all around Rochester!! Then I saw him again with Wally and the gang from Northern Music at Jefferson Community College!! So lucky to have seen him again. Thanks Wally!!! When you are feeling down, this will pick up!!

    Heard Don sing this song at the close of day years ago; at the Cheshire Dump Festival and it's stuck with me ever since!

    Unmistakable voice. So soulful, so beautiful. My mom brought me to the "Friends and Love" show in Rochester and that's when I fell in love with this voice. I was ten years old. Thank you so much for posting this.

    I was streaming Bat McGrath's Blue Eagle, and this following on the playlist was a surprise. It's forty years since my high school days back in Pittsford, and I had forgotten in the interim about Don Potter and this beautiful cover. What a great music scene Rochester had. Sure am glad this is uploaded here.

    Wow, I used to drag my mom with me to see Don Potter with Stanley Watson at a restaurant called the Other Side of the Tracks. Even she, who was never a music-fan, liked Don's voice.. Some years later my sister & I used to enjoy seeing him with a small band, at a little downtown Rochester place called (I think)the Back Room. His version of "Over the Rainbow" will always be my favorite.

      Don's version of Over the Rainbow the best. Spent many weekday late nights at the Alley just listening to the amazing duo of Don and Bat. And Friends and Love still is so great. I always wondered whatever happened to Esther Satterfield. Of course it seems everyone was related to or had a connection to the Mangiones. My Dad worked with Frank Mangione at Kodak.

    A hundred years ago when I was young ( '70's ) I went to see
    Chuck Mangione at Old Massey Hall ( Toronto ) and
    Don Potter sang Over the Rainbow - I will never forget
    it - not a dry eye in the house.

    As the currently number 1 ranked singer/songwriter in Rochester, let me say as the guy people generally hate to have to follow, this is better than I could ever be. I would not follow what I just heard. I would walk. Arguable the best song ever written. Don's voice is gorgeous. The production beyond beautiful. Wow. wow. wow.

      Do you shout to make yourself surer of what you believe? If what you believe were true, you wouldn't need to shout to reinforce your own or other's belief.

    this version is the way I learned to accompany a singer in a band that played at weddings , parties and some clubs in the Greater Rochester area. Don Potter's vocal inflections are the way it should be sung. That's my opinion. Does anybody want to comment? [M. Egan-Sturtevant]

    I hear the Lord's voice coming from Don. Many singers sang prophetic lyrics to comfort our troubled hearts, ie, "Bridge over Troubled Waters", "Blowing In The Wind", "Try To Catch The Wind' and many many others; announcing HE is with us no matter the circumstances! JESUS IS LORD - DEAL WITH IT!!!!

    • @ssppeellll
      @ssppeellll 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Funny--sounds just like Don Potter's voice to me.
      And you really--REALLY--shouldn't make claims about other people's songs. If Bob Dylan or Paul Simon or any of the other songwriters whose songs you referenced want to say that about their songs, that's their business.
      As for the last--there is nothing to "deal with."
