I’m from Rochester New York and I had this album by Don Potter. I’ve been looking for this song for over thirty years. It moves so much! THANK YOU THANK YOU… I’m so glad I haven’t lost my ability to cry at beautiful, touching artists lift up and share their voices and make me cry like a little school girl.
This is my favorite version of this song. While living in Rochester, I was lucky enough to see him play and in the 80's went to Jefferson Community College with Wally and the gang to see him!! So much fun!!!
Absolutely the most beautiful rendition of a most beautiful song. No one sings it like Don Potter. When I lived upstate NY, friends turned me on to this local boy ~smile~ And, this is still my favorite song!
I'm a native upstate New Yorker! From the Finger Lakes region, specifically. It wasn't till today, via a post from a FB friend, that I first learned of Don Potter. Must say I've been taken by the warmth of his incredible voice, his talent & the heart I hear in his songs! I will be adding his playlists to my "Favorites" tabs & sharing him w/ my friends, now, too! He's an exceptional find! I gather Don spends his time, now, out in California / West coast area. It's always exciting to hear when someone from *home* does well & this leaves me wondering: Where does he hail from, here? Please share when you have time. Thanks!
Actually Don resides with his wife in North Carolina. He writes, produces and sings Praise Music now. After leaving Rochester and moving to Nashville in search of a record deal he was introduced to a mother and daughter duo who were looking for music director. That duo were the Judds and the rest is history. I too am from the ROC and attended many a Don Potter concert. He is a super talent and even better person.
Soooo long ago in Rochester, NY, he was THE local musician with Bat McGrath, and their songs, their style, had us all dancing on those Friday or Saturday gigs. Who would have known he would bring forth his excellence and gifted talent forever?! Beautiful song, thank you.
He and all of the Together and Friends & Love masterpieces will always bring me to those days grohing up in Rochester. Our 'soul' music always. So beautiful then, and today...RIP Bat~
It is still my all time favorite song on my phone. When I was in basic training in Louisiana during Vietnam War the only radio station you could get on my transistor radio was a station in Chicago that played Don's version every night at midnight sign off. Listened to it every night under my pillow. Thanks Don
The orchestration is the best ever for this song - and not many singers perform the first part of the song - which I think sets it up so perfectly. I have the vinyl and will be converting to MP3 soon - thanks for posting
This has to be the best redition of this classic, romantic song. Don's voice takes the listener to another time and place. Thanks for sharing this video!
Don is so talented! I actually posted this version of this song a while back. It's great seeing him getting some love and recognition for his early work..even if it is 30 some years too late. Good job!
I listened to this song every day when I was in college at oswego, way back in "78. so delighted have found it on you tube. REALLY GREAT SONG. brings back some great dreams. thanks!
I went to SUNY at buffalo with a guy who played trumpet behind Chuck magione...he turned me on to Don Potter The guy is the best....just wish he still did tune like Paris without you and over the rainbow..Paul Rooney
Just found a decent chord chart for this stunning version... unfortunately, not the interludes. Anyone know those chords? tabs.ultimate-guitar.com/m/misc_unsigned_bands/don_potter_-_somewhere_over_the_rainbow_crd.htm

I always enjoy Potter's music. Every song is so beautifully sung with so much feeling and beautiful phrasing. His interpretations are amazing.
WLOQ in Orlando would play this on a rotation. I miss that station.
