      @@simonedwards5401 yes the last guy did not program the key fobs to the right module, but did he try reprogramming the supposedly bad key fobs? he never mentioned it. and I was wondering.

    • @CivilizedWarrior
      @CivilizedWarrior 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@rauls300ce I don’t know, according to the manual, once you program the fobs, you can’t reprogram them to a different module, apparently. You have to get a blank one, that’s never been programmed before. Which actually makes sense, if you think about it, from a car theft standpoint. If all it took was a scanner to reprogram used fobs, you could theoretically steal any Jeep with any Jeep key fob. Unless somebody figured out some way to clear/wipe them, or something. Who knows, it does amaze me what some of these people can do with scanners and computers these days.

    That's just amazing. That's what i wanted , somebody to diagnose antitheft system with a lab scope and showing to us. Most videos out there show how to program a key but nobody posts a video about trouble shooting the key fob or anti theft system. Bernie is just amazing and shows us exactly how things work and how to diagnose it.

    You are absolutely THE master Tech. That said, seems like you could have diagnosed a lot of that from the driver's seat without pinning anything. I appreciate your approach being able to prove what's working or not. I'm no where near your experience or knowledge but seeing what we had here, I think the scan tool should have been your first thorough diag tool. Great Vid, thanks.

    I'm not sure what equipment that locksmith has but mine can verify if the fobs are the correct type and if the programming was successful. I also own a scope and bidirectional scan tool to be able to diagnose these problems like you just did. I know there's a lot of counterfeit product out there so be careful what you purchase.

    Really good information there.
    I always like to see a good canbus diagnostics, and what you just did was a top-notch diagnostics. I thank you, sir.
    Had a similar case with the exact symptoms but it was not a key issue it was a rf antenna signal missing, prior shop erased all the dtc's thinking it would help and then I had to work without any dtc's, but thank God for technology, I was able to find the issue, it was a non functional antenna, repaired it and customers key started working again ( no programming needed ).
    👍 the similarities in symptoms are so close that if you blink, you will miss it unless dtc's are present to help save the day, maybe. 😊

    Is it possible for a key to go out randomly when the jeep is parked for two days. My situation.
    Parked jeep.
    2016 75 Anniversary Grand Cherokee.
    Parked it for a couple of days. When to start using keyless remote start. Nothing.
    I got inside, foot on break, pushed button, gauges seemed normal, fuel pump kicked in, NO CRANK.
    NO BUS on display.
    Shop has had it several weeks and he told me today that he has no clue.
    Says he can’t even get his snap on reader to connect to ecm.
    I’m beyond frustrated.
    I’m mechanical and savvy at doing pretty much all my own repairs but didn’t have time to mess with this at the moment. Full time Paramedic and I’m getting as much overtime as I want right now.
    Any advice would be greatly appreciated
    🙏

    Hey Bernie, I like the video and thank you for sharing your knowledge and taking the time to explain your diagnosis approach . One thing I’m not so sure about is that you mentioned that the locksmith that programmed the 4 keys is pretty capable but in reality I’m not so sure about that since they actually make tools that can check keys to see if the chips are good or bad .

    • @deeznutz3494
      @deeznutz3494 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What if the “bad” keys were emitting a signal, just not the correct signal for that car? I think we’ve witnessed this in one of these videos, where the key wouldn’t program to the car because it was the wrong one for the car. The signal of the “bad” key was good, but the car didn’t like it. Sometimes the scope isn’t going to provide all the answers you need, and you have to go with your gut and/or your cheapest, most logical option

  • @gerrymoeller
    @gerrymoeller ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Those keys may have the correct frequency to work the remote but it has the wrong RF ID chip. Not all aftermarket keys are the same and just because the company says it fits doesn't mean they are correct.. ran into this issue on a 14 Cherokee. 3 different brand aftermarket keys but only 1 of the 3 would program even though they all said they would fit..

    Great video. My few hang ups. Who attempts to program 4 keys? How come the question wasn't asked at the second key "perhaps it's not the key" and lastly, we're 4 aftermarket keys attempted to be programmed, or 4 factory keys? This would have been useful information from the start.

    Hi Bernie,
    You're always on target without fudging around. Like the information and always find something within to relate as I'm chasing the sometimes illusive problem. I am wondering, are you using an alternate scanner or exclusively the ATS Scanner for Bidirectional?

    • @vickenkaragozian2041
      @vickenkaragozian2041 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is aftermarket scanner. The ATS scanner is generic scanner and it doesn't do output tests. It has to be an aftermarket scanner like Snap On or any other scanner with full function capability. He's using Autel scanner.

    Hey Mr Bernie, you said don’t always rely on DLC because it may not be connected to the CAN BUS but to an interim module couldn’t you have pulled up a wire diagram first to see if DLC is linked to CAN BUS?

  • @kylefentz
    @kylefentz 27 วันที่ผ่านมา

    When you pierce wires, what are you putting on those wires afterwards to prevent corrosion? I get it, its inside the vehicle but ive seen him use this same technique under the hood too.

    Awesome stuff as always!
    Question, with the CAN not looking as 'busy' as expected, is there a general rule of how much comms should be seen on the line with KOEO, or is what you're seeing based off experience?
    I'm assuming the more modules the more data packets, but just curious!

    After replacing the fuel pump Im now having a problem with a vapor lock and my new pump is making a ringing/humming noise off and on-is there a way to fix it with a inline check valve or inline filter of some sort. I have to release pressure on the fuel rail to re-crank it after it runs for more than 20 minutes/ which is a possible fire risk.

    The big break in the wave form is the car giving the key the finger… 😂😂😂

  • @ralfsautomotive
    @ralfsautomotive ปีที่แล้ว

    Who programmed the Key? I would have started by checking for signal with the keys. If the Original key was lost and the vehicle ran fine before I would not automatically assume that modules have gone bad. Maybe I am missing something.
