My single best memory hunting would be one of my largest bucks to date. My wife and I had lost a baby a year prior then successfully brought into the world my daughter Sadie. Only issue was she developed a rare disease where she did not develop the air way from her throat to her nose and grew together as bone. After numerous surgeries and sleepless nights, my wife kicked me out of the NICU and told me to get some time in the woods and take a break. All I could do while up in the stand was pray for my daughter and my mind was not on the woods but god. About half hour left of shooting light, the 170 inch flyer buck walked 600 yards straight to me where I put a 40 yard shot on the deer and the rest was quite emotional when I recovered the deer. Down on bending knees, tears in my eyes, I know he was with me that day.

Best memory is when my wife went with me on opening day, which was my birthday. She shot her very first buck with me and I shot the doe that was with the buck she shot! I was excited for her! Hoping to make some more great memories this year with my son, it'll be his first year! Super excited! Good luck to everyone this upcoming season!

My best memory in the woods was watching my dad harvest his first big deer when I was a kid. 20 years later and I’m taking my son hunting and watching how much he enjoys time in the woods like I did. My son now has that same buck my dad killed above his bed.

My single best hunting memory was this past turkey season. First turkey season here in Illinois. I scouted birds on the public by where I go to school and my dad had a first season tag and opening day we got it done in the first 30 min. The best part is that I was doing the calling and scouting. It’s the best feeling to repay the favor to the man who taught me everything I know about hunting.

    • @MidwestWhitetailVideos
      @MidwestWhitetailVideos  27 วันที่ผ่านมา

That sounds like an incredible experience. There’s nothing quite like being able to repay your dad for all he taught you, especially with such a successful hunt. Getting it done on opening day and being the one who scouted and called the birds in makes it even more special. Those are the moments that show how much you’ve learned and how far you’ve come as a hunter. Congrats on a memorable season and we hope this one brings more great moments. Thank you for taking the time to watch and we appreciate your support!

The single best hunting memory that I’ve ever experienced for myself was closing the story on a huge 10 last season. I knew of the deer for 2 years, finally gained permission, tons of video and encounters, then was able to get him late November last season. I’ll never forget the moment that I saw him walking towards me that evening and my friends and family coming to help recover and share the memory.
A memory that I’ll never forget was when I took my grandfather out hunting with me and he was able to kill a buck. I will never forget the memories we made that night. That’s truly what it’s all about.

    • @MidwestWhitetailVideos

That sounds like an incredible story man! When you invest that much time in one specific deer and go through the ups and downs of the season, it just means something a little extra special. When you throw in friends and family on the recovery that's just something that you will never forget! On top of that sharing that moment with your grandfather is something very special as well. Thank you for taking the time to share that with us and we appreciate your support. We hope you are enjoying the series so far.

My best hunting memory happened this year when my son shot his biggest buck during the WI youth hunt. He’s shot other deer including a couple of bucks but this one happened so fast that he had to do it all on his own. He spotted it, got his rifle ready, lined it up, and executed a perfect shot without any help or coaching from me. The buck had a pretty epic crash in the bushes 20-30 yards away and when we realized what just happened and looked at each other, we’ll never forget it.

The memory that comes to mind when people ask is my first time going on a deer drive, the whole family was there, grandparents, uncles, siblings, cousins, everyone. Just being involved sent chills through my body, listening to all the stories, hearing the laughs that have been buried deep thay have meaning behind them. Even though I didn't harvest anything, it was a blast and a memory I will never forget

My best memory isn’t of a successful hunt for myself, but my best friend. We served in the army together and we became friends over our passion for the outdoors. When we had met I learned that he had never killed a buck with a bow. A few years later, we find ourselves in a tree together on a permission farm in my home town. I had a group of 2-3 year old bucks that where coming in regularly, so we took our opportunity to get a stands up. As luck has it, right after a late summer afternoon rain in they came feeding on acorns. He picked his target and made a perfect shot! Since then we have travel to the Midwest hunting public land and he has connected with a mature buck every year. I’m grateful to have been there with him for his first deer and to light the fire for his passion for big bucks!

Best hunting memory comes from when my dad had just got me into hunting. He would let me tag along as I remember walking through the stalks of corn getting to the stand. We sat in a buddy stand and that hunt I remember one of the smartest creatures an older buck peak through the tall grass glancing up at staring eye to eye with me as I sat as still as possible while shaking like a leaf on a tree. Those glossy eyes I’ll never forget as he back up slowly and continued walking.

The best hunting memory I have, was my first year bow hunting. It was also my first year hunting by myself. I wasn’t able to afford a deer stand or blind at the time so I was sitting on the ground at the base of a forked tree. While I was waiting for the deer to start moving, I noticed a bobcat coming towards me chasing a squirrel within 5 yards. One memory that will always stick with me was listening to an all out drag out fight between two mature bucks. I was sitting a field edge with a timber hillside in front of me on the other side of the field. They were in the woods on that hillside. I couldn’t see them but I could hear their thick antlers thrashing, pushing each other around through brush and over fallen trees. Throughout the close to 10 min brawl there were multiple other bucks running across the field I was sitting to go up in there to see what was happening. It was possibly a once in a lifetime experience I don’t know if I’ll ever top.

My best memory in the woods was the day i harvested a 170" 9 pointer i had hunted for 5 years. It was November 9th and an unbeatable day to be in the woods. At lunch, I had got word that an old friend of mine had passed away that morning. The whole evening hunt i was sitting in the tree thinking about good old times together. I almost left early but decided stick it out. At last light the never before seen giant stepped out and gave me a clear shot. Still cant believe it happened, and cant help but think i had some help that day.

One year me and two of my brothers went out to shoot a doe as a "camp deer" on our annual Virginia trip. One of my brothers wore shorts and we nonchalantly trekked down the mountain to a known doe hang out along the road. When we got down where the does always were we watched them cross the trail and got setup. As we were prepping for a shot we heard crashing through the rhododendron and a beautiful 8 point came running down the hill straight at us! My brother dropped it right between us and the celebrations began! Then we got to surprise the whole gang when they came down with the tractor to pick up our quick "meat doe". It was definitely an unforgettable experience for us!

I am 48 years old and have only been hunting for 7 years. This is my 8th season. I have not yet completed the process. I hunt with my son and my friend Mike. My favorite memory to date was early October 2019. My son and I were sitting in the double. He was 13 years old and it was his 2nd season. We had our target buck walk in as he was napping beside me. I nudged his leg and whispered do not move because our buck is walking in and at 60 yards. I asked him if he was ready to shoot as I handed him his bow. He looked at me with absolute panic as he grabbed the bow. Almost in tears he said no Dad I am not ready. I replied with that is fine and I got this. As I was slowly turning to grab my bow the buck had been moving in and was now stopped at 20 yards and at 12 oclock. Absolutely perfect placement for the shot. I was ready with bow in hand but had to stand. I waited for him to quarter away and began to stand and that is when it all went for a shit. He saw me move and spaced out but the fallen tree stopped him from bolting away. I was stuck in a half squat position for well over a minute and all the adrenaline felt like it was dumping into my legs. So I started shaking like crazy. The buck quartered away again and I stood up to draw and the strap on my overalls fell and the buckle hits the darn stand seat making the least natural sound in the bush and the buck ran away like a smartie a diebetics convention. My son and I looked at each other with complete joy and said that was awesome ! We sat the rest of the day and went back to tell Mike all about it. Thank you for reading. Good luck to all this season ! Safe hunting !!

Absolutely without a doubt my best and favorite hunting memory was last yr on Sept 9th at 7:47 pm.. my daughter (Claire) shot her first deer which happened to be a 4 pt..!! The day was special already as my dad joined in so three generations in the blind that night enjoying laughs and smiles. Once he walked out we waited him out for 10 or so mins and what makes it even more rewarding was she kept her eye on that one, even though there was bigger bucks coming into the plot. At that moment I realized what hunting is supposed to be about and not what the media has made it into..!! Her first phone call to her mom telling her " I got one" is the most important call I've been a part of. An evening and hunt I will never forget

My last elk hunt with my dad. He always thought I was crazy for wanting to archery hunt and it blew his mind when I had success. I killed a bull elk at about 4 yards and packed it out. Back at camp, he finally conceded that he was wrong about his outlook on archery hunting lol. I'm glad that I was able to prove myself as a hunter to him before his time was up. His takeaway was that it takes years to learn the woods and become a good hunter, but put a bow in your hands and you learn a lot faster.

Weather was terrible, spitting rain/snow on and off. Took time off work that week to hunt. Was a slow, wet and cold sit but finally had a (good to me) buck come out in the field I overlooked. I don’t have instagram but I hope I can still have a chance in the drawing. My favorite memory hunting was my second buck, the last deer I got to shoot with my grandpa in the blind. I was 9 years old. I had practiced all summer with the 243 and my dad told my grandpa no shots over 100yrds. We hunted in the morning and three basket bucks came out into the field, at 9 years old any deer was a state record in my mind. My grandpa told me to aim at the biggest one and he would stop them when I was ready. I got on a basket 9 point and he stopped them. I pulled the trigger and they just stood there. I racked another and as soon as I got back on him he ran back in. No sign of being hit. I asked my grandpa if he had seen me hit him and he said no that was a far shot… I let you shoot 250yrds 😂. So we went out and checked for blood searched the bean field for about an hour and somehow ended up finding a ton of blood. We followed it and sure enough he barely made it into the woods. It’s my favorite memory because I got to share it with my dad and my grandpa. Generations of hunters that passed on to the next. At the time it didn’t mean much but it does to me now and it’s something I’ll never forget!

Best hunting memory has got to be a buck I shot 3 years ago. First deer shot with my son on stand with me. Bow hunt surprise buck came out of nowhere. Never seen him before but knew he was big enough. Made a rushed shot and hit him high. Let him lay overnight and my son skipped school they following morning and he myself and my father tracked the buck for almost 1 mile. Watching my son and seeing his determination is something I will never forget. Unfortunately didn't find the buck and hoped he lived. 5 days later neighboring farmer found him dead in his field during harvest. The single best hunting memory that I’ve experienced is a hunt that I had last year in Kansas. As I was heading out for my afternoon hunt, I got to the spot where I would park my truck for access, but there was a beautiful chocolate antlered buck chasing a doe right at my parking spot. Since I was on a county dirt road, I drove past the spot and watched them run into the woods. After cresting the hill just past my parking spot, I turned around a parked the truck. I saw where the buck had went in, so I started a stalk to see if I could find the doe and the buck. Sure enough, I started down the fourwheeler trail only to see the doe down the trail about 60 yards with the giant buck just behind her. I was unable to cut them off and get a shot, but I snuck over to my stand and saw the buck later that night in the creek bottom. I never got to harvest that buck, but it was awesome to consistently have multiple encounters with that buck at that creek bottom. He was a beautiful deer!

Hard to pin point just one favorite memory. I’ve been very blessed to have had so many memorable hunts with my wife and dad and other friends and family. But if I had to pick one it would have to be the hunt where I killed my first “BIG” buck with a bow behind my dad’s house (155 inch 14 point). I remember being so excited and shaking so bad I had to get my dad to help me out of the 20 ft stand. It is something I’ll never forget everything about that night it was pretty special to share that with my dad. I do know here soon this “favorite memory” will soon be replaced to when I get to take my son for the first time or when he kills his first deer but for now this is my favorite hunting memory.

My favorite memory is when I killed a big 10 point the last hunt of 2009. I had been hunting him all season and actually shot him during archery season, but after 509 yards, he quit bleeding. I had been getting text from my dad all morning about what I was seeing, and as 11 am rolled around I decided to shoot a doe coming down the ridge. After I climbed out of the groundblind, I called my dad and talked to him for a minute. The second I hung up I heard a grunt at the top of the hill and here he came (missing the left side of his rack). After he dropped I could see it was the same 10 I shot with my bow a few months earlier. He had a giant scar on his brisket from my broadhead. I called my dad back with the good news. He passed the following March.

My favorite memory while hunting is the first time my daughter went turkey hunting with at 6 years old. I harvested a tom and she told everyone about the turkey she got.😂

She must have been so proud of herself! That's a great memory and we hope that you two continue to build them in the future! Thank you for sharing Matt and best of luck this season!

Best memory would be one of inexperience and disappointment. On my 2nd ever bow hunt i had a huge buck come by about 10 yards. I was so nervous and shaking i knocked the arrow off the rest. Watched him walk on by but that encounter got me hooked on archery hunting.

We all have that one moment! The intimacy of bowhunting can bring out a flux of emotions at the time it's all about to happen. The emotion experienced in times like that just means that you're meant to do it and you love it! Thank you for sharing that and we appreciate your support!

Best Memory has to be sharing the time with family. sometimes its not about the harvest its about time in the tree.

Best memory was the first buck i shot on state land with my dad when i was 12, 1 1/2 mile drag and had to cross a small river. Good times!

One of my best memories yet while hunting would be in my younger years when the whole family would go camping for the youth opening weekend

My best huntin memory is when I took my first buck with my father. It was through a youth controlled lottery hunt in northwest Ohio when I was a young lad. Shot my first and biggest buck so far. Remember it like it was yesterday
