    I think the biggest issue with editing the Japan vlogs will be that Stephen is blue and Mal is green, and not the other way around.

      The default clip color in FCPX is blue, and I don’t want to change that for any other projects, so I kept my footage blue, haha

    New rule for the next group trip. All clips must start or end by verbally stating the date and local time. You don't need to keep it in for the final footage it would just be for you lol

    As someone who just came to this after having watched that vlog you edited Steven. Good job. It was great! I enjoyed it. It was fun to see what everyone got up to while you were stuck at home. Recovering I suppose is the best way to put it and intersplicing. Dan and Josh in there too was even more fun

    As someone who is woefully behind on the journey by at least, eight years, it’s kind of hilarious seeing the evolution from one end of the timeline to modern times.
    The beginning we’re going to Ireland check out all this cool stuff.
    Modern time and hear Stephen‘s perspective here’s Mallory‘s perspective here Brandon‘s perspective etc. etc.

    So I know you mainly did it for yourself, but I would like to say as a viewer I also think splitting the timeline for trips is a good idea. Because (in an ideal world where everything is caught up) the options are split it, have a 2-3 week break for the vlog, then have it come back to present day with the occasional extra video of the trip. Compare that to not splitting it where there’s probably a period of a few weeks/months where we’re at most getting one vlog every few days, maybe even one a week, and everything is just super behind. So yeah I’m sure you didn’t need any extra justification but it definitely makes sense to split it for big trips like this.
    Also I know we always joke about StephenVlog being a sitcom, but I think it’s showing with the whole “cutting from one group, to another group, then back to the first group”.😂

    Hey Stephen, would you consider making a separate playlist for just the Japan trip vlogs so it’s easier for people to find those videos instead of also searching through march? I don’t want to add more things to your plate as Japan is already a massive undertaking but this might also be beneficial for yourself and the cult to watch the trip again.

  • @ThatOneVoiceInMyHead

    This brings up a question possibly for the Shorts, or you can even just answer here.
    How long do you typically edit? Do you have specific days that you edit? How long does each project TYPICALLY take? (Let's Play videos, normal Vlog Days, Event/Trip/Japan Vlog Days)
    Do you give yourself a time limit (like you edit for 4 hours or something), or do you have to do like, a specific amount of videos per day or edit session?

    I can't help but wonder what past Stephen (who did the 2018 timeline split) would've thought if he saw this. Would he be like annoyed "ugh! why didn't I think of this sooner?!" or would he be self-deprecating "welp, I'm glad I finally figured out a better solution... eventually?"

  • @Bammer2001
    @Bammer2001 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Hey, Stephen, when you guys went for your trip to Japan, what was your budget?
    Even though this can be a very tough one because of how far I have to travel, and obviously I need to speak Japanese, it is extremely rewarding at the same time.
    Problem is, there's way too much stuff I want to get over there, and so I would need a big budget. Staying there for one month, I am looking at ¥5,000,000, around $32,000, or $44,000 CA.

    • @stephenvlog
      @stephenvlog  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      We were there for two weeks and didn’t spend anywhere near half of that, and there’s two of us - if you’re budgeting that much, you’ll be very okay and probably come back with a lot of it! One thing to remember is that food in Japan is super cheap, so you’ll likely spend a pretty small amount (at least compared to the states).

    • @Bammer2001
      @Bammer2001 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@stephenvlog Yes, of course, I did see that food is definitely cheap in Japan. 😁
      I think I'm mostly coming from the fact that there's too much stuff in Japan you can't get anywhere else otherwise. For instance, if you follow some Japanese enthusiasts of Splatoon, especially on Instagram, you'll notice they have a lot of merchandise you can't buy in Canada or the United States at all. It's just not sold here. And how are you going to be able to handle the manga, gachapon, figurines and statues, and dried food that aren't around in North America?
      From there, there's the hassle of buying all of that stuff, and shipping it back to either Canada or the United States, which ups the challenge.
      And another factor is definitely the food, the entertainment, the games, and the transportation. It's just so overly tempting, so I would always chase and spoil myself too much.
      That's pretty much why I'm looking at the millions of yen. There's just too much going on there I'll be addicted from day one.
      Anyway, thanks a bunch for following up, pal! I appreciate it! 😁

    Would you consider divvying up the Vlogs amongst friends and family? Mallory edited a couple vlog many years ago. You seem to trust Dan with a lot of things and considering that you have a particular technical version you could lay it out in notes and he could do it for at least a few of them.

    • @stephenvlog
      @stephenvlog  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +22

      It's not that I don't believe others could do it, but the vlog is very much my personal project and creative outlet - even if it takes me a while, it's not something I could let go of. I really love that I've been personally responsible for all 15 years of it!
