Then they can afford an airline ticket, or ferry ticket and with a passport enter a country and claim asylum at the border like it has been done for a very long time, " I claim asylum because I am being persecuted (or whatever reason)" and then like what has happened for a very long time your application is processed accordingly. Many of those people were qualified doctors, engineers etc. in other words could contribute. Once the dinghies got used it became a way for some very dodgy people to enter, and they threw all their documents away. The first thing we can do is stop putting them in hotels, and giving them phones and pocket money. Are we mad? No other countries do that to my knowledge.

And in this deal we didn't think to include a clause whereby the French are compelled to take back any migrants not granted asylum. This would have solved the problem of Somalis, Eritreans, Iraqis, Iranians who we (unfortunately) cannot return to their own countries. What a shambles these politicians are.
