cos they do not understand what a personal data is. Even though GDPR law in EU quite explicit on it ... in game nick is not personal data, if they posted e-mail address with ban info at that point they would breach the law, with just nick no ...Also telling we are going to limit services provided to them is not personal data ... Since US laws on this matter are more lax then EU's not sure what they mumble about ... :)
@@klonik79 Ubisoft doesn't seem to have any issue of broadcasting the names of accounts that have been banned for toxic behavior or hacking, even people you haven't ever seen.
Heck, you can see those messages appear in pro league games too.
War Thunder posts a list of banned users every few weeks, no reason war gaming can't do the same thing.

As a comparison i really like how the Azur Lane EN twitter will post a tweet showcasing a wall of shame to all accounts that got banned, each month, for cheating.

I'm guessing that the Difference stems from where the Company is located. Wargaming is polish I think and therefore falls under EU Data Protection Laws while Azur Lane is what? Korean? Chinese? I still think that giving out a Username doesn't break Data Protection. After all, who actually uses his real Name in the Internet.

Wargaming.net is based in Belarus originally, and Cyprus internationally. Belarus is not in the EU, which is unfortunate for the Belorussians, because they could probably kick Lukashenko out more easily if they were. And he'd definitely be more likely to face charges for his human rights abuses. Lots of companies set up international corporate offices in Cypress because it IS in the EU, but has nice relaxed tax and finance laws.
Azur Lane is, in fact, Chinese.

Reading Neptunes Inferno because of you're recommendation. Great book, Guadalcanal was a brutal baptism for the navy.
I don't understand. War Thunder has a very similar complaint system to WOWS, and every month or so a massive (sometimes 300+) list of everyone that has been banned for abuse, cheating, excessive teamkilling etc is published there and then. I simply dont understand why WOWS does not do the same thing.
Data protection argument is bollocks. You simply add into the TOS, that if you break any of the rules you agree to your user name and sanction being published and/or shared in any format. This is probably a very minor clause compared to many of the things everyone already agreed to by clicking "I agree" without reading the TOS.
Also, the information "Player NICKNAME has been banned" contains nothing that needs to be protected.
A ToS doesn't allow a company to break the law, and will still land the company in hot water. Many companies think the ToS allows it, but it doesn't.
@@BenJamin-en3jb A nickname is often either, reused across multiple locations, or a name often used by different people, not to mention some people using their actual names. So still personal information, hence Datalaw protection.

@@Nukedk Doesn't matter, a nickname is a piece of information you chose to publicly disclose. Different kind of thinking, Wargaming gives us all kinds of info about a player based on their nick. Why should the info that the player is currently banned be more personal than the rest? It doesn't help you identify the actual person, or anything.
It is an important principle of jurisprudence in ANY justice system, at ANY point in history that 'Justice must be SEEN to be done'.
Unless your war gaming and it costs you time and money for now reward in which case you continue to do fuck all......

BTW Jingles, thanxs for pointing out "Neptunes Inferno" was great to read, even if it was not in my native language. Currently reading "The fleet at flood tide" which I enjoy reading as well. On an off note the Hood was also a battlecruiser and it lacked the deck armor (although there were plans to re-enforce it), in 1941 it had to suffer for it.
More important it´s an Atlanta with a Kraken, High Cal, Confed and SOLO WARRIOR.
I've seen people farm Kraken, High Caliber, and Confederate awards all day. Arguably the most prestigious award in the game is the Solo Warrior. "Stand alone against at least 4 enemy ships and win the battle" is a task that nobody wants.

Jingles forgot to mention the Solo warrior award. It's a very rare award to see anywhere and it's been only a couple of weeks since he posted the previous one.
I think we've all missed the your the last hope voice message, because it activated almost at the same time as the fireworks signal got activated with the Confederate award achievement being reached.
So the seventh most damage done on an Atlanta globally, an annoying team killer reported to wargaming, a Kraken, Confederate achievement, High Caliber, Solo warrior award, the Arsonist's and the Devastating Strike achievements. Very good game for I-sank your-wifu. Congratulations!
Jingles that response sounds like a complete copout from WG, ofc you can say an account is suspended that's all one needs to state, if that was the case nobody would be banned on forums or social media would they, it certainly would not say in such a public fashion.

WG just cant be arsed looking into bad behaviour of any kind. It costs money and time for no reward on their part and this is why they will never seriously do anything about it. Its not profitable and its less hassle just to do nothing at all. Smoke and mirrors....

I really enjoyed the gameplay of Waifu. it was amazing and well played! Also The m18 hellcat is awesome. I'm very sad that I didn't see one at Bovington Tank Museum. (I didn't go on tank day)
At the end I thought he was going to lose than I seen his rate of fire and realized that the Colorado was done for. A really entertaining match the hole way through.
In league they give you a message that someone you reported got punished. This cant be against data protection law.
They should also give you a message if someone who reported you abused the report system several times
Yup. that is super satisfying too. You don't know who it is that got a punishment, but you know that the team is actually doing something with the reports.
Same in DOTA2, you would see: We took action against a player you reported.
Azur lane makes an announcement on social media when it bans players could WOW also do that every day tell everyone who's been banned

There was a game called Guild Wars wherein this got dealt with very publicly. The character Death would descend upon your character, swing his scythe through you, and you and everyone in line of sight got to watch it happen to you live. Your account was immediately confiscated with no refund. This was only possible because Guild Wars development staff commonly played the game as part of their job. If they saw it happen, they could punish on the spot with no conversation. It was very comforting to those who suffered at the hands of these @$$#o!e$.
Yeah, there were 4 M18 Hellcats that ambushed a German armored force comprised of Panzer V’s (Panthers). They used the hill as cover and they would peek over showing only the turret making them a small target. It worked great due to amazing gun depression.
7:40 - the data protection laws in this case are doing far more harm than good. The twats and arseholes have IMHO abrogated their right to that protection.
I'm not buying the data protection argument here. If WarThunder can list the nicknames of players who were permabanned for illegal client modifications, why wouldn't World of Warships? Nicknames are not personal data. Emails are, but you're not featuring emails.

It's a bullshit answer used as an excuse not to send ANY response to tickets. This way it's impossible to say whether tickets were processed or not.
Behaving like an asshole in a PUBLIC game is a PUBLIC event. By saying that X (which is a public, well-known PSEUDONYM) broke Y rules (which are public) in a particular game (which is a public event) and consequently got the sanction Z (as detailed by the aforementioned public EULA) is NOT "disclosing private information". It's being transparent.
You just have to see how long it's taking the dev team to add the minimap to the list of blacklisted interactions to realize the support team, which is most likely mainly made out of underpaid temp workers who hate their job, just don't give a DAMN about your user experience. All they want to do is tell their bosses they've met their daily ticket closure quotas, and if no one can tell when they closed the ticket without even reading it it's all the better.
Incidentally, it's probably the reason why they ask for a replay, even though I suspect they might have to keep the chat logs around for legal reasons anyway.

i dont think that data protection principles apply here - his real identity remains hidden if just account name is mentioned and so there is no breach.
thank you Mr. Jingles for the update on this inconsiderate player and I hope you do this more often if you get videos on these kind of player. So we can all know about them and make them change or quit the game for good for doing this. And great video replay of Waifu as well.

I feel compelled to point out that, while yes, Beatty's battlecruisers at Jutland didn't have the armor protection to really stand in the line of battle, the real reason two of them blew up was because they bypassed or outright removed safety measures between the guns and the magazines to increase rate of fire, allowing what would have otherwise been survivable hits to make them go boom. A third battlecruiser was saved from the same fate only by a quick command to flood the magazines.

I don't see how any data protection laws are being broken by saying 'Account X was banned' as it reveals zero personal data. Also chat and in game events should be logged server side, it shouldn't be up to the players to send replays in.
I was in a game where someone from the enemy team was reporting there location. In team chat we talked about what the guy was doing and after about 5 minutes of it, and some of us taking advantage of that info, realized the guy was going to be a prick the whole game so like 6 of us reported him and as a team the remaining 9, yes all 9 of us unanimously, decided to throw the game. We told the enemy team and all sailed directly at them and did not fire. It was kindof amazing. This was the only time I have had that happen and it was only a tier 6 game, but still was cool to see that most people still have some sport left.
"Data protection" is nonsense, other games like Rainbow 6 Siege & Battlefield broadcast bans region-wide, I'm sure if they can legally Wargaming can too.
Well, European Union's new super strict data protection laws came to be year and a half back, so I'm no sure about how those affect WG's behaviour in this matter. Sure it shouldn't affect NA servers (also, I don't know how the laws are in any NA country), but maybe they have adopted uniform policies for the sake of simplicity. Not really sure would telling about an online account's ban break those laws though. Either they're not taking any risks or it provides them a good excuse not to tell because they don't want to.

Telling about a ban wouldn't break data privacy laws at all. Data privacy/protection laws are ment to protect your personal data and quite frankly an account name is not a form of personal data. Unless the EU is just that retarded.

Random english-as-a-second-language question:
Isn't "sank" the correct form? (Which is probably why Jingles defaulted to that...) At least I learned that "sunk" is the past participle, so it's either an adjective or perfect tense (i.e. "I HAVE sunk your waifu.") - while sank is past tense. So without an auxiliary verb it should be "sank" - or am I wrong somewhere here?
@@QemeH You are correct; however, the name is a reference to a common misuse of "sunk" in relation to the board game Battleship (e.g. "You sunk my battleship!").
Fun fact: It's sometimes better to give people your broadside than nose in in the Atlanta because your bow/stern plating is actually THINNER than that of equivalent tier DDs. This means that AP shells of 203mm and above can and will overmatch your nose/stern and continue on to penetrate your still thinly-armored citadel bulkheads for massive damage. Whereas if you're lucky, they might overestimate your speed and miss your citadel entirely if you're broadside on,resulting in relatively minor overpen damage.

EU. World of Warships is a Russian game, but the majority of the players are in the EU. (As opposed to World of Tanks, where the majority of players are Russian.)

@@HowardMoth I would presume that Wargaming has the same customer service policies worldwide, because it would be simpler that way. Meaning that they'd mostly follow EU rules everywhere.
Actually no. While typically branches of international companies follow the same guidelines there's nothing in place to hold them to it. Case and point, you may recall the drama more than a year ago when WoT released the Chrysler and a popular community contributor negatively reviewed it. Drastic differences between how EU and NA handled the issue.
No, WG NA is the entity in charge of the NA server, and it is a distinct entity from WG (a Russian company). WG NA has to follow US, and has zero responsibility to follow EU law.
And they certainly have distinctly different customer service departments, as running a single one would be a logistical accounting nightmare, trying to figure out who pays for what.
Illustrating a significant problem with data-protection laws: not enough protection for legit customers, too much protection for troublemakers. The arseholes will not be "stamped out" until we start seeing heads on pikes. Justice must be seen being done for it to have any power.

I would just like to say I finally did it. I have been watching your videos Jingles for about 2 years now, and even though I am a poor public servant and never have any money because my kids get it all, I have finally started playing world of warships on my kids playstation. I was hoping that my education at your fount of knowledge would make me invincible from the start, but it took me a few games just to get basic seamanship down. I have not been brave enough yet to venture out past AI yet, I don't want to be laughed at yet. I had hopes of sending you my first replay but I doubt it will be good enough. I have managed to kill two bots in one game, which caused me to jump up on top of the grog keg and drop trou,. Hopefully in a year or two I can have one of my replays on.

I agree, especially when the Colorado's 5"/51 calibre guns, which should easily outrange the Atlanta's inferior weapons, don't even fire.

They don't say what penalty (and if you reported multiple people, you can only guess which player it might be) but they at least say: "ye, we've looked into it and you're right"

If I read correctly, the british battlecruisers weren't sunk by battleships, they were blown up by German Battlecruisers exclusively, which had superior gunnery and functional armor piercing shells.

In addition to the Atlanta going to the bottom at about noon, it's sister ship the Juneau, went to the bottom about 12 hours later due to taking it's 2nd torpedo of the day in approximetly about the same place as the 1st torpedo hit.
5 " guns sinking Battleships, such a farce. Why I no longer play.
Historically Small/Mid Caliber Guns had proven useless against Battleships, only when one ignores Yellow River, Tsushima, Guadalcanal, Surigao Straight. If you fire a hundred exploding shells at a Battleship's non-vital/unarmored parts in a timely manner, then a great many of the Crew will be dead, the Steering Gear, Rudder, or Propellers potentially broken, The rangefinders/optics/radio masts will likely all be smashed, and the wooden decks, secondary ammunition or anything else flammable above the waterline will burn uncontrollably, and if that fire is near the air uptakes it will render the engine rooms uninhabitable, or if it's near the Barbettes, It could set off the magazines. Battleships are strong, but in an age of modern weapons armor alone isn't enough to allow one to waltz into a fortified anchorage like a fox in a hen-house the way the CSS Virginia did at Hampton Roads (1862), and if/when Battleships get into a close-quarters fight against opponents with a higher rate of fire and torpedoes, It cannot be expected to go their way.
@@bskorupk Battleships are worthless in-game because their accuracy has been nerfed into the ground, getting a full broadside off at close range shouldn't be the impossible feat it is in WOWS. See HMS Warspite for further info on why they shouldn't be missing at close range. All a Battleship can do is get hit & hope to RNGesus for a citadel.
@@KamikazKid , which line are you playing? To be fair, German BBs are not that accurate beyond secondary range and do tend to scatter pretty good. IJN and USN BBs do have decent accuracy at range. I haven't played any BBs in the RN line yet. That being said, RNGesus can say no, no matter how close you are and you do occasionally hit a bad RGN run where you can hit anything. My luck with shot runs the entire gambit. On the rare occasion I miss perfectly aimed shots at less than 2km. Other times I can get a citadel or two blind firing a cruiser in a smokescreen. RNGesus giveth and RNGesus taketh away.
@@KamikazKid The main thing that annoys me with Battleships is that Basics of Survivability is a Tier 3 skill and not a Tier 1 skill, as for Accuracy long-range misses tend to force enemies of all types to scatter like ants, and although not nearly as accurate as cruisers, Battleships can be made to work properly if one keeps in mind the slightly absurd and esoteric "Age of Empires Logic" ballistics, in that if one either doesn't "target" (with the little symbol), or simply changes target after firing, the shots will artificially disperse to a greater degree than if the enemy ship is targeted for the entirety of the process, furthermore, it's harder to adjust for the fall of shot because badly aimed shots will artificially disperse more than properly aimed ones. BB's are not "useless in-game" by any stretch, but require a great deal of skill to use, unless one is trying to rush in with secondaries like an ironclad, which only works properly when done en-masse in low-mid tier battleships.
@@dennisuerling899 Well I'm talking all lines, you shouldn't be missing half your BB shots at 5 km, American Civil War cannons being aimed by line of sight could hit at that distance, but a Battleship with a lead computing gun sight misses half to 3/4 of its shots. That's some great historical accuracy there. I think there should be two accuracy tables for one for line of sight distance, and one for long range RNGesus due to gun dispersion.
The defunct LOTR MMO would sound a crack of thunder every time someone was perma-banned, usually for gold sales. You can't name them, but you can present stats of how many were banned, how many suspended, how many under investigation, how many closed. "Justice must not only be done, but seem to be done!"

In LoL if a person you reported gets banned you get a message along the lines of “A player you recently reported has had a punishment applied to their account. Thank you.” If that was implemented without any specifics just that something happened I think that would be a better way to show that WG is actually doing stuff.

I recently got the Atlanta black, and got a battle without any carriers lot destroyers, so I move up to cap (after several minutes of waiting for my team to do so) and was sheltering beside an island when a battleship can't around the corner and knocked me into the next millennia with all 10 of his 16in guns

This is what I LOVE about Ubisoft's public shaming system in Rainbow 6 siege. It shows people that things are happening when you literally have messages showing up ingame for EVERYONE playing when a player gets banned. It changes perception massively and lets people know that reporting people actually works.

i got my Atlanta from a crate drop, did not like it at all when i first got it and it sat in my inventory of ships for months until i took it out for a sink and swim session and found i had been playing it all wrong, now i can use it more effectively it is easily my number one cruiser.
The Atlanta is a frankly terrifying ship. If the captain knows what hes doing, he will be unspotted the entire game raining HE. BUT, only the MLG Atlanta captains know about its secret weapon...AP ammo. If a BB or cruiser strays within 7 Km of an Atlanta, welcome to damage city. For cruisers, they can pump 16 citadels into you every 6 seconds. With BBs, they can aim for the upper belt armor and hit 16 penetrations while circling them faster than turret traverse and forcing them to turn away from torpedoes. The only thing worse than camping 9 km from an atlanta thats island hugging, is charging around the corner into one. I frankly love my Atlanta and its got a nice 19 point commander that it shares with my Wooster which is basically a longer version of the same boat
I know that smite does this thing that if a person you reported ends up getting punished they will let you know with a message saying, "actions have been taken against someone you have reported." or something similar.
Just writing to say some things about putting in a report ticket. I think the game was called 12th sky, or something of that sort, back in the day, in the times of yore where I managed to get 3 or so people banned (presumably at least) as they were nowhere to be soon shortly after the tickets were sent in.

the sale system was rather poor. you were allowed to have 2 accounts, and one would certainly want to do that if you wanted to both play the game and sell your loot at the same time.
Trading was done by setting up a trading booth somewhere on whatever server you wanted, but one would probably use the designated trading world. the booth had very limited space, give it a name (usually what kind of stuff you were selling), and wait for someone to stop by and check your booth the old fashioned way by actually moving his toon to check out your booth. I place mine next to an npc dealing in symbol stuff, although actual use of the npc was a mystery, but there were other guys selling at that npc as well, so, a good place to set up shop.
what happened:
I kept getting a ton of something I think was called: "symbols", and my competitors sold them for 10 silver a piece. I had a ton of them, so I sold mine for 7.5 silver a piece. they decided to match my price, and I just lowered it to 5 silver a piece. they then decided to contact me to try and convince me of selling them at 10 silver a piece, more money for me if I did. but as I was swimming in symbols and with nothing to use them for, I simply didn't have time to wait for someone to buy mine when our prices matched.
as their negotiations failed, they then decided to simply use lack of physics and place their booth on top of mine, meaning noone could interact with my booth, since their booth would be on top.
usually in games you're not allowed to disrupt other people's gaming experience, which they now did. I informed them that they were breaking the rules, they didn't believe me, and I sent in a ticket to support with screenshots of the chat, and of them placing their booth on mine. and the next day or so, both guys were nowhere to be seen for about 3 days.
when they returned, they kept at it and called me various things and I sent in another ticket. didn't see them for a week or so after that.
some other guy (from same guild) then decided to spent his gaming time advertising that noone should buy my wares cause I got normal people banned. I informed him why they were banned, but complete disbelief, as the 2 "would never do such a thing."
I told him I would report him too if he continued, with no result, reported him and he disappeared for a few days. when he returned he called me various things, he then disappeared for a week or so after sending in another ticket to support.
the first 2 guys returned to the game, asking me politely to raise my prices so they could actually sell their symbols, if only I'd cooperate. I explained why I did as I did, but they said they had no issues selling theirs, until I arrived. unconvinced as I couldn't get rid of mine, and certainly not in a pace that was even remotely close to me gathering them. and I could keep up with my personal demands at 7.5 silver, occasionally had to resolve to dropping my price for a day to 5 silver. told them they could do the same, as that was what I wanted at the least for them, but they didn't want to do that and negotiations went on for several days, I sent in a new ticket for harassment since they kept pestering me, despite asking them to stop, and they disappeared ones more.
the name caller returned and was furious that his 2 friends ones again couldn't play, and he too, would later come to share the same fate, cause of the games harassment rules.
about a week or so later, I decided to quit the game, as I had noone to play with and was literally feeling utterly lonely with noone to chat to and noone to guide me and help with difficult tasks, should I have need of it.
whether they got perma ban or just a month or more, I do not know, but my remaining days were peaceful and quiet and with a prosperous business, unable to keep up with demand, now that I suddenly was the only guy seelling them (at least on the trade world)

in The Settlers Online, I got a ban by a moderator who thought I was trolling the help channel (admittedly, I asked a ridicouless question of how long it would take to make 500 million fish food (this was before fish farms were a thing in the game (which just made fish from nothing) and couldn't do the math myself). I don't know how long I was banned, but I sent a ticket to support and the next work day, I recieved an ingame mail from the moderator with a very polite apology for the undeserved ban.
of course, this would very much be up the the guys in charge whether they want to enforce their rules, some companies couldn't care less. (Cough Cough Jagex Cough Cough Runescape Cough Cough)
Blizzard comes to mind, the game all the potty mouths play(ed?). according to their rules you are to be polite and thus not swear. sending in ticket after ticket has given no result what so ever of people being overly abusive at the word game of the potty mouths. basically if you're not making actual threats to harm the guy in real life, you're all good. you will keep seeing them, until you block each and everyone of the guys toons. but with millions of players and probably several thousands of potty mouths to block, multiplied by the amount of toons each guy has, I'll just go ahead and call a GG.

anyways, that's it from me. sorry for the very long rant. but sending a support ticket might actually do something, even if you don't see the actual end result of it.
unless of course you should happen to share a similar story as mine. if you usually spot the guy the same place 24/7 doing the same stuff, and you report him, and suddenly, you don't see them for several days or more, well, most likely, the ticket has had an effect. and if he is never to pop up again, well, time to party!

I just had an idea for how to improve the sense that justice is being done. Keep and release statistics about these things. EG we had 200 players commit reported violations, of these 125 had replays, of those 124 were issued sanctions and 12 players permanently banned.

As for the first replay, I didn't know about the enabled replays. Good to know, unfortunately the Nazi I ran across in Narai won't get fucked as it's too far back and I've had a few hundred battles since then.

light cruisers are the most OP class of ship in the game, they have a worse "no fun allowed" button than even carriers do
Jingles, the battlecruisers at Jutland didn't come up against German battleships, they's a myth. They came up against other battle-cruisers. IT had nothing to do with the designs of these ships, in fact some of the Royal Navy battle-cruisers, Tiger comes to mind, were tough as nails. It had to do with appalling safety standards.
The weak armour of the atlanta class wasn't the main reason that they were weak surface combatants, the main reason was that they had far too much topweight for their size, this meant that they couldn't take anywhere near as much damage as most cruisers before sinking
I love your contribution to this and other games, you are one of the most "respected" among the WG contributers and they should listen to you more.
As you said this is the internet! How can WG prevent players not getting into battles against, some times, 25 or more enemies. I've experienced this situation, getting into matchs, tier 8, 9 or even 10 with players that should be playing hello kitty island instead of World of Warships.
WG should "rethink" its MM base on the experience of players, but no, russian devs are always trolling us or there math is different then ours. Other thing is that they have premium ships for all thats the worst, money talks higher.
To finish in style, cheaters continue to play, alot, and WG still doing nothing. Shame!

This is why I miss Guild Wars 1. When a player got banned, the literal god of death appeared in the public hubs and killed your character in front of everyone when you got banned. Pretty good deterrent
