I love the music bar. You can see each glissando coming and you can see how he nails it. You also see the interesting slurring of the same note. Both are very hard to do and as a trombone player, you don't see glissandos written into music until you get to higher levels. As a trombone player, the first time you play a glissando...not for fun...but actually written into the music...it is a great thing. Your feeling is "this is what the trombone is all about".

Jazz is the musical epitome of "cool" and always will be. Hip hop changes, pop changes, rock changes, metal changes, edm changes, even classical goes in and out of style, but jazz is always jazz and jazz is beautiful.
It’s also distinctly born from American culture so I find it silly that more people don’t dig it. Nothing like a late night jazz club to add a touch of class to a night out.
As a trombone player in middle school, all I can say is wow. I find it hard to play fs that high but him going an octave higher?! That is inspirational to someone like me
I also played trombone in middle school, up to grade 7. Then some changing circumstances caused me to switch schools to one that didn't have a band program, and I fell out of practice. I also struggled with the really high notes. The most interesting thing I ever learned to do on a trombone was to sing one note while playing a different note.
I may not know much about Jazz, from its artists, or hell, even the songs, but it's one of those genres that I absolutely love everything it has to offer and I can never go wrong by listening to it.
I love how a relatively straight 4:4 makes it easy for the listener to keep track of the beat, allowing the solo to just go ridonculous with syncopation.
I'm lucky to get to play and see this man everyday at school. Good guy and amazing player, even in University concerts he puts every ounce of his love in his instrument. He's also on eof the best teachers at Augusta University.
Wycliffe Gordon came to the high school I went to probably 13 years ago now to help us fundraise our trip out to new york for essentially ellington when we made it the third year in a row. Absolutely incredible man. I'll never forget the advice he gave me as a trombone player back then.
Wynton knew he was getting taken to church, immediately. Gordon dragged it through the garden, got it SQUEAKY clean, then covered it in all the mud he missed the first time.
The LOOK he gives the sheet music before going in. "Really? Are you serious?! Okay..." Like someone preparing to blame a good friend for absolutely everything that's about to happen.
When I was in high school, our jazz band entered into the Essentially Ellington contest and Wycliffe came as a clinician to sit in on one of our rehearsals and give us some tips to improve our sound. Really nice guy and an unbelievably good musician. It was a true privilege to meet him and receive some coaching from one of the greats!

It depends on your search for literal transcription. In this one George tried to catch many of the licks and embellishments without notating microtonal slurs or cluttering the result. And finally something of what you hear about the swing or the blue notes *is not meant to be notated*: this is the actual difficulty.
Bar 16 and 17 didn’t sound like the same notes to me, more like he went up a major second twice ending a major third above the Eb, not an octave… Jacob must be so disappointed
