Paul Sullivan was convicted of the attacks on the boys in 1999. He actually lived in Catford and owned a pet shop. The police did not initially consider him a good suspect because he was married - underlining how patchy offender profiling was back then (the 1990s were also when appalling mistakes wirh offender profiling led to a massive miscarriage of justice with the Rachel Nickell murder when Colin Stagg was wrongly convicted). Many infamous sex attackers have been married (Brian Field, a number of the Sidney Cooke gang, Steve Wright, and perhaps most famously Peter Sutcliffe). Paul Sullivan was only convicted when DNA samples were obtained.
Psychological profiling has no scientific evidence base and is on a par with fortune telling. Lots of people seemed to think that TV drama Cracker was real, most worryingly, that included the police
My mam watched this religiously, she was desperate to ring in and grass a criminal up. She once claimed to have seen a wanted murderer in Middlesbrough bus station and even though the bloke was arrested about 300 miles away the same day, she still insisted it was him, waiting for the 28.
@@pattymelt-go3fvthere are several of him on the British newspaper archives website which has lots of old newspaper articles, but requires a subscription. He didn't actually look bald in the photos, but I suppose he could have been wearing a hair piece. He looked a bit older and rougher than depicted.
Can anyone help I watched a old crime watch say proximity around 1991 92. It was about a post depo robbery up in Preston, but can I find it again 🤷🏻 If someone knows witch one I’m on about can you post link here 👍🏻
Hi, We have all the Crimewatch episodes from 1991 and 1992 except Dec 92. I remember the Preston Natwest bank robbery but that was Nov 88 and the Morrisons robbery in Preston but that was 93-94. Can you remember anything else about the depo robbery, was it a full reconstruction?
Did they catch the killer of Julie Smith? Looked it up but couldn't find anything online. Surely they solved it, it sounded so clearly like an abusive ex.
It's a weird one,. I can't see any appeals post 2011, no information about a trial after that point but in 2017 someone used a FOI request to ask for a list of unsolved murders from Humberside Police and Julie Smith's name wasn't included. It seems someone was arrested in the 90s and charged but the case was dropped due to issues with evidence, but even if the police were not looking for anyone else and the person is now deceased, I don't think the police would usually close a case?
So awful. Those poor children 😢 I wondered if someone *hired* "a friend" to get rid of Julie. The spray didn't have to say anything in words, could've just been a sign, as in, look out for the sprayed window aka "set fire here".
@@AACE73All 5 children were taken away from her, there must have been very valid reasons for this. It's lucky the children were not in the house. Unfortunately these housing estates are full of dysfunctional people who get up to all sorts of criminality.
@@melinaesposito3434It’s really sad what happened to Julie I’m not saying it was right or wrong that her children were taken away from her but they had to grow up without her I’m hoping they and the family members that are still alive find out who committed this awful crime and they can some form of closure and she can finally b at peace Xx😢😢

Welcome back Sir Redcard74, a true giant in TH-cam crimewatch videos.......
Does anyone else look up these cases on Google now to see how they concluded?
Yes.
Anyone than find details could post the findings, be handy to know
I do. Frustratingly, more often than not, they remain unsolved.

10 years ffs 😮😮😮 that's nothing
He is a monster

Profiling is still poor and in Sullivan's case was appalling and put off many witnesses

Yes he was a 44 year old pet shop owner Paul Sullivan and only got 10 years which the police themselves were disgusted at.

I wish they'd find out who killed Jill Dando - who was herself murdered on her own doorstep.
They have. He was a govt assassin from some eastern European country.
