    I'm french ! Kicthen is mainly in the front of the house, near the entryway We very often have a dining room mix with a living room (except old house) and in modern one, the kitchen is open on the livingroom Most of us always remove shoes It's fancier to have a laundry room, usualy It's in the bathroom or the garage
    And a two bedroom appartement might be from 50 to 75

    I'm from Brazil, more specifically from Brasília, where our buildings were made inspired by the soviet era buildings, so there's some uniformity on the older units. A 2 bedroom apartment would be around 60-80m2. I also lived in another big city for a while, Curitiba, and there a 2 bedroom apartment would range from 40m2 to 120m2, but the average was between 50-70m2.

I live in an apartment that has 3 bedrooms and 63m², so it's pretty small, but I think the regular size for an apartment in my city is kind of 70 - 80m². But there is a lot of apartments like studios that has just 1 bedroom and around 30m², for single couples or just one person. My boyfriend's parents (Danish, they live in Zealand) have AC in their house 😅 It is almost always on, but not for heating or cooling but for humidity and ventilation. I did not find anywhere where it says we are not allowed to have them, but it is generally not needed 😊 Unless I am misunderstanding what kind of AC you mean 🙂
    On the other note, I really liked this build and the pack! Thanks for the video 😊
    In Croatia (where I am from but moved to Denmark), I think the standard size would be 50 to 70 sqm. My parents' apartment is 54 sqm. But I feel like it is changing and that the standard size in new builds rose up. Not by a lot, but 60 to 70 sqm for two people, or couple with 1-2 kids. I also noticed new apartments have køkken-alrum, while the older apartments have separate kitchen and living room. Not sure for houses because it really depends on the person's taste, I don't think I can put a finger on it 😅 Same with where the kitchen is, it really just depends on the plan of the building, there is no general rule or tradition. But yes, we always take our shoes off at home. When we have guests we of course tell them they do not need to take their shoes off, that is just how it is, but many decide to do it anyway 😁

      @majjr7 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes with the AC thing! I'm danish and I had to double check with my boyfriend if we're allowed to have AC, but we've both never heard anything about it not being allowed ahaha - But yeah I don't really know anyone who has it anyway

    I love seeing the possibilities of the packs before committing to buying them!
    I live in Michigan, USA and in my area, a 2 bedroom apartment ranges from 800-1200 sq ft (74-111 square meters I think)
    Apartments either have laundry in-unit (often times near kitchen) or communal at apartment complex (usually down the hall)
    But in my house personally, our laundry is in the basement. A lot of people I know have this as well and they have a laundry chute that they can throw their laundry to the basement from an upstairs bathroom or hallway.

    What a lovely build ^^ I wish I could ever afford this as a "first house", LOL.
    I live in Czechia - we have tons of Soviet-style apartment blocks here left over from the socialism era, so lots of people still live in apartments with the exact same floorplans thorough the country. I live in one too, ours is one bedroom and 53 sq meters, so 2 bedrooms would be 65-80 sq m. Kitchens and living rooms are usually separated by full walls and doors in these apartments, there's always a small entryway and the bathroom and toilet (separate) are right next to the front door. Newly built apartments tend to be on the expensive side, so they may have bigger rooms and obviously open & more flexible floorplans.
    We do have certain districts with McMansions, actually, likely a bit smaller than their American equivalents (any house larger than 3-4 bedrooms or 2 bathrooms sounds massive to me), but often equally lacking in taste... Standalone houses here are very diverse here, from tiny rundown 19th century worker homes to modern mansions. They're all mostly rectangular or simple L-shapes, though, unless they've had additions glued on over time. The American norm of having elaborate facades and roofs with many separate "shapes" is also something I mostly encounter through the Sims :)
    One thing I noticed is that most Czechs are really into having their rooms laid out based on where the sun is coming from (living room windows always to the south/west, kitchen to the north/east etc.) rather than the front/back orientation of the lots.
    And for your other questions, we take taking shoes off very seriously in most households :D Including a dedicated stash of guest slippers. Washing machines go wherever there is space, but I think bathrooms are probably the most common option. Mine is under the kitchen counter and nobody is surprised by that, though.

      It's always so interesting to hear how people in other parts of the world live. I'd hate to live somewhere not taking your shoes off is frowned upon. I have custom insoles and walking without them is painful

      @unassuming_llamas653 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@limiv5272 Oh! I'm sure people would be understand a health issue like that :) It's mostly because of carpeted floors, but as those are less common in new interiors, some millennials and younger people get less strict about shoes. Same with hats indoors and other more old fashioned rules :) I personally don't insist at all, but most people are so used to taking their shoes off they start doing it before I can even tell them ^.^ It just feels more cozy when friends are visiting, when it's like a plumber or sth or a short visit, it feels more weird to me that they almost insist on leaving their shoes outside. I hated having to wear slippers at school, especially in middle and high school! It also depends on the climate AFAIK, we definitely get some snow and mud on our shoes in winter.

    I live in northern New York where it is very rural, we literally have more cows than people. Anyway, typically a 2 bedroom apartment is 800-900 square feet. For apartments the kitchen is the first room you walk into and the laundry is in a closet off the kitchen or there is no laundry. For a house kitchens tend to be in the back of the house and the laundry is in the bathroom or the basement.

    Hi! I'm from Spain and I live in a 3 bedroom apartment that is about 100m2, that is considered medium to big size here. The majority of the houses and apartments in Spain have the kitchen separated from the living and dining space, even though the modern ones use to be open concept or "american kitchen" (that's how we say it in Spain). It is very usual to have a laundry room attached to the kitchen, but for tinier homes it is very common to have the laundry machine in the kitchen, that is my case, or in the bathroom (not as common). Spanish people don't use to take their shoes off when they arrive at home, but I do. I also wanted to add that the majority of spanish people live in apartments and not in houses even outside the city center.

    I live in the midwest in the US, and I would say a typical 2 bedroom apartment is anywhere from 65sqm to 100 sqm, although most people live in houses. My house is considered pretty big where I live but not the biggest for sure (~325sqm) some houses where I'm from can get up to 450 - 500 sqm. We have a three story (basement, ground level, upstairs) 4 bedrooms, 2.5 bath but could be 5 beds and 3.5 baths if we finished the basement. I'd say most houses here have a foyer, and from there you either enter the living room or dining room, and the kitchen is usually in the back of the house and is either partially or not visible at all when you walk in :)

    In Germany it’s also super uncommon to have an air con system in your house 😅 it’s probably different in newer homes, but I literally don’t know anyone who has one. Even my boyfriends old job that was in a relatively new office building didn’t have it and they were facing the sun in the middle of the day! People here are mostly too cheap to get any cooling devices so they close of their apartments or houses in the morning with blinds and when it’s night and a little cooler we do “lüften”, which is apparently our holy grail :’)
    Apartments here differ in size depending on where you live but I’d say the usual 2-bedroom apartment is something between 55-60 square meters. We live in a weird converted garage-turned bike shed- turned 2-bedroom apartment (which in Germany usually means one bedroom and one living room because most apartments don’t to open floor plans) with around 80 square meters which is really big compared to our friends homes but also very oddly shaped. We have a lot of apartment builds in Germany that use the same floor plan everywhere and I also grew up in one of these, where a 3-bedroom (aka 2 bedroom, one living room) usually is around 65 square meters.

    In Italy a standard 2 bedroom apartment is approximately 70 sq meters. Usually there’s a garage which is not directly connected with the house (talking about flats and condos) which is not included in the 70 sq meters average. In my area no one uses the garage for a car 🤣 we use it as a utility room + extra storage room (so laundry, winter/summer clothes wardrobe storage, gardening tools, bicycles, etc)

    In Barcelona 60-75 m2 is average for a 2 or 3 bedroom flat, and the buildings are huge. We usually have a hole (or various ones) in the middle of the building (going across all flats) so the kitchens (and a small annexes for laundry) in the whole building open there and the clothelines cross the hole, so you can see everyone’s laundry!! in satellite view in google maps you can see them, although sometimes there’s a covering on top

    Hi Aveline, this is probably one of my favourite houses you built this year. :) I wished as well, they would improve the lighting of rooms you build under the roof. But I doubt this is on top of their priority list. As always they are bugs to fix for our newest pack.
    When talking about average sizes of apartments in Germany, where I am from, I need to consider what kind of building style the apartment is situated in and how many rooms the Apartments have. Roughly estimated a one room apartment is 20-30 m2, 2 room apartments maybe 30-60 m2, 3 room apartments at least 40-80 m2 and 4 room apartment 70 to 120 m2. Sometimes it’s also possible to talk to the landlord and ask to add a wall or remove walls if you need a separate sleeping room or an office for example or you prefer to have bigger rooms. That’s way they are such wide ranges when it comes to apartment sizes.

    The average 1 bedroom 1 bath in California is about 889 sq ft so about 82 sq m. The living room and kitchen tend to be open concept here or have a small bar area or wall separating them. You typically walk through the living room to get to our kitchens. And if you have a washer and dryer in your apartment you're lucky. They will be on a patio, garage, hallway closet or bathroom. Our houses vary. The northern part is farmland and has older style houses while the south is very modern or typical suburban. We also have some desert style homes here. Its a mixed bag. Apartments are fairly standard though.

    I’d say the standard size 2-3 bedroom apartment and even house for the United States is about 1,000-1,200 sq ft. There is many smaller apartments in bigger cities though. The room placements in the house are all over the place. I wouldn’t say there is a standard placement of rooms. Laundry is usually in the basement but in newer houses now it may be placed on the second floor of a home where the bedrooms are if it’s a two story home or just on the main floor if it’s one floor. Laundry usually has its own separate room or in bathroom. Sometimes it can even be outside. In warmer places like Florida I have even seen it common for laundry outside which is so weird to me lol

    A typical first house for an Indonesian couple is a tiny house with one or two bedrooms (20-45 meter square). The kitchen would be in the back. The living room should be in the front and there's a dining table in it. And then of course there's a bathroom. Ideally, the plan is to expand the house following the growth of the family, either vertically or horizontally.

    So in my country we don't say 2 or 3 bedroom apartment, we just say 2 or 3 room apartment so if the living room is separate from the kitchen and there is bedroom as well we'd call that 2 room apartment. And those apartments would be around 30-50 m^2. As for real 2 bedroom apartment those are usually 60-80 m^2.
    We absolutely take off shoes indoors and washing machine is in the bathroom :D

    I'm from the midwest US. The kitchen tends to be in the back of the house and is open with the dining room. Usually the dining room has door to the backyard, where people eat out in the summer. About half of people take off their shoes inside and half do not, which annoys me. Laundry will usually be right by (or in) the garage or in the utility room (usually in an unfinished basement). It depends on the price range, but a 2-bedroom apartment typically ranges from ~75 to 125 square meters. I think that conversion is right; I think in feet, so 800 sf to 1400.

    Im from the west coast of the US. Ive kind of lived all up and down the west coast and Id say on average a 2 bed apt is anywhere between 75-90 m2 or 800-950 sq. feet. I remember my very first apartment in Portland OR was like 820 sq. feet and it worked for 3 people living there.

And our landry machines are almost ALWAYS in the bathroom, like I have never seen a laundry room in finland😂

      @@Claire.Chenault still that must suck. I have a garage too and the bugs do suck. Spiders in there too. Like the kitchen would be towards the back of the house and then in a small hallway or something there is a stackable washer and dryer with some storage. Or the they have their own room. I seen in a lot of newer builds for 2 story homes, the washer and dryer is on the 2 bed floor.

    One idea for sorta scandinavian mansion could a fancy summerhouse. I'm not sure if actual scandinavian countries do the specific style, but my instant reaction to a (nordic) mansion was one of the pitsihuvila (lit. lace villa) with a lot of lace-pattern woodwork, big porches and usually even a tower we have in Finland. I'm not sure how well they translate to the sims though.. And definitely not contemporary in style ^^''

But most of the panel buildings I see is from ~70-s they are 9 floors, and 2 bedrooms apartment would be 56-80 square meters.

    The average size of apartments (2 bedroom) around where I live in Edinburgh, Scotland is about 90 sqm (970 sqft) which is definitely on the larger side for a city apartment. The laundry is in a separate area however more people have been converting the laundry area to make the bathroom bigger so usually it will go in the kitchen instead

    In Spain we don't use to have a proper "laundry room", the washing machine is in the Kitchen and the (idk how to say this in English) like the thing where you put your dirty clothes is on the bathroom (?). I know that a lot of people don't understand why, and we either haha, but if you go into a house and the washing machine is in another place (for example in a Laundry room), is considered to be a "rich" person (like not rich, but you know), it may sound weird (and it is) but it is like this hahaah

    I live in the USA so idk. But why can’t you guys have ac in your houses in Scandinavia?

    • @vee6961
      @vee6961 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pretty sure that's for environmental reasons. I haven't ever seen any residential house on the continent with AC, it was just never a thing here and I think it might not even be allowed in the EU. What we do have sometimes (in more modern builds, I think) are buildings that have floor heating systems that, in summer, pump cold water through the pipes so the rooms cool down. Edit: Well! Turns out I was wrong and it IS allowed. It's just not a thing people here do, it seems. ^^

    • @AvelineYT
      @AvelineYT  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I’ve been lied to, but it’s VERY uncommon to have AC here anyway 😊

    • @LogicOfPractice
      @LogicOfPractice 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not exactly Scandinavia, but in Finland ac system called air source heat pump has become increasingly popular in the last ten years or so. Most office buildings have some sort of ac system, and we even have district cooling network (similar to district heating). Very weird that ac/cooling systems are uncommon in Denmark as it's more southern country than Finland 😮

As you go farther, a coat closet and furnace room on the left. At the back there is the second bedroom on the left and master bed and bath to the right. Along the back wall is a wall full of shelves.

    I have lived in six states here and visited the vast majority, and I've never once seen a home with two tables here in the US unless one was on a terrace, and I've heard of them in AirBnbs simply because Europeans like to have them, but American culture typically dictates you have one place for eating and maybe barstools in the kitchen area if you have a bar. My grandparents being German could state that Germans do this sometimes as well. However, when I lived in France, even in the heart of Paris many places had breakfast nooks even if just for one person to sit, but I've never experienced this in America.
    In France, laundry usually in the kitchen but no dryer, some nicer places may put in pantry. In America, depends on where you live. Midwest and south typically downstairs or in the basement because of tornados, basements are necessary. On the west coast, often, same level as the bedrooms in it's own place or a nook in a hallway. In the east coast, could be the basement, or downstairs mainly due to older structures but not always. In apartments, is typically off the master bathroom hookups in a nook somewhere out of the way.

    • @vee6961
      @vee6961 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think in Germany, the thing with the two tables is that about a hundred years ago, it was normal to have the table in the kitchen. Eventually, tables in living rooms became more of a thing, but that didn't mean that the tables vanished from kitchens instantly. I know that when my parents built their house in the 80s, the original planning had a table both in the living room and a small one in the kitchen area as well (that they ended up not putting in after all). Maybe that's what it's about?
