Now that escalated quickly :) I have no experience with the Benoni but it looks like a very cramped position for Black. It is considered dubious at top level for a while now isn't it?
The Benoni isn't the most ambitious opening at the super-GM level, so it isn't played much, but GM Wesley So is perhaps the most knowledgeable Benoni Defense player out there today and I certainly respect his chess! :)

Well, at least it helps for learning. I learned opening principles embarrassingly late myself.
