Mincemeat pies. No one I know ever heard of them and I can't find them nor their ingredients. I was too young to remember what was in them. Anyone know?
Great choices. Custard pie and French silk pie are both deliciously indulgent. Custard pie is smooth and comforting, while French silk pie is rich and creamy. Perfect for satisfying any sweet tooth.
@@DebbieBorsick I bought a jar of Nonesuch Mincemeat at the store. Haven't made the pie yet. Can't find a readymade mincemeat pie anywhere. Years ago, Sara Lee used to make frozen mincemeat pies.
Key Lime Pie is an icebox pie made with key lime juice. The original had eggs and sweetened condensed milk- no whipped cream, cool whip, cream cheese, etc.
Sugar cream pie is not gone. Anty small-town restaurant in north- central Indiana that serves tenderloin sandwiches will likely have a slice of sugar cream pie.
Most of these pies are regional in their origins. Therefore they wouldn't have gained popularity in any other parts of the country. Also a lot of these pies were too labor intensive for most housewives in later generations would want to attempt making!
Sorry guys but apart from icebox pies most of these are just traditional English tarts and flans - substituting some local ingredients like huckleberries for blackberries and grapefruit for lemon and pecans for walnuts etc etc. Molasses pie is treacle tart with molasses instead of treacle. Your culinary history is more English than you realise.

I miss mincemeat pie at Christmas and it is very hard to find these days, even at Christmas.
Mincemeat pie is a true holiday classic. It’s sad it’s not as common now. Hopefully, you can find or make one to enjoy this Christmas.
You really need to make your own mincemeat

@@OldGloryDays77 Thank you! It is really great warmed up and topped with vanilla ice cream.
I still make minced meat pie. I also make lemon pie.

Many of these are still popular in the Southern US.

You’re right. Traditional Key Lime Pie is simple yet delicious with just key lime juice, eggs, and sweetened condensed milk. A true classic.
I miss Gooseberry Pie 🥧 from my childhood.
Glad it brings back sweet memories for you. 🥧
Grasshopper pie was a dessert take on the cocktail the Grasshopper!.. A concoction of creme de menth, fresh cream and clear creme de caco.

You're right! Sugar cream pie is definitely still a favorite in many places, especially in Indiana. Thanks for the reminder!

Great points! Regional origins and the effort involved definitely influenced their popularity.

Gee, I didn't know that the English had a patent on the idea of adding berries or sliced fruit to a pastry to make a dessert.
Good point. Many pies do have English roots, and it’s interesting to see how local ingredients change the flavors. Thanks for sharing..
I've actually never heard of most of these. And traditional mincemeat contains no meat. It's citrus rinds, raisins, cinnamon, clove and sugar.
Thanks for watching. Mincemeat pies used to contain meat, but over time, the recipe evolved to include just the fruits and spices you mentioned.
None Such jarred mincemeat filling does contain beef suet.
Mincemeat stopped having meat and used suet instead about 150 years ago in the UK
What about hair pie
