  • This is a big one.
Blackwater Park turned 23 this week. And as much as I like discussing our favourite tracks, I'd like to take the opportunity to celebrate with some special content.
So it gives me huge pleasure to share a new / old video of the classic lineup playing The Leper Affinity. Taken from Opeth's show in Montreal on April 29th 2001, this is one of the band's first performances of this track. And they deliver it with the level of energy that it deserves.
If you're a Martin Lopez fan in particular, you're in for a treat. He's an absolute bulldozer here. This is the Lopez we miss. This is a charged foray into darkness. This is a crowd that feeds every moment of this incredible show. It's a personal favourite of mine (at least of this track), and I hope you'll feel the same.
    Enjoy!
    Mikael Åkerfeldt- vocals and guitar
    Peter Lindgren- guitar
    Martin Mendez- bass
    Martin Lopez- drums

Brilliant. Splendid. My most favourite band ever, playing my most favourite ever tune from their catalogue, at their best time, with the backdrop of the other most favourite band ever of mine in the background. What a treat. Bonus: the close-up on the fingerboard during the solo. It was the solo that motivated me to start learning to play guitar years ago, and still today it holds up as one of the nicest, most melodic and enjoyable solos I can recall. These guys truly wrote some spellbinding pieces of music during those years. Thank you Karst a lot. Have a good day. ❤

Jesus fing christ that was good. The raw energy is immense. You can tell Mike is nervous in the clean section but it also adds some vulnerability to the performance. What an absolute gem D, thank you 👏👏👏

Hey, Opeth lovers, what do you think? Should Mike reconsider and ask Lopez to come back in? I think so. Nothing really against current young lad, he's good. But I think Lopez was such a huge piece of the amazing early Opeth sound and vibe, like on display here and on the live recording "Lamentations".
