  • I recently went on a trip to Northern Mexico and discovered a lot about the peninsula and the food they eat. Here's a list of what to eat in Baja California Sur, Mexico!

The Baja California peninsula is a combination of arid deserts and aquamarine waters. The weather conditions and the type of land that they have made it difficult for them to produce food. There is a lot of history about how Baja California’s food came about but I’d like to focus on the coastal influences from Sonora and Sinaloa, the two states where Mexican coastal food originated.
The 1930s was a good time for the economies of Sonora and Sinaloa. Their agricultural businesses totally exploded. Dams were built to irrigate the lands which attracted Spain, Germany, Japan, China, Italy, and the United States to explore the peninsula. This wave of immigration contributed to today’s Baja California’s culinary landscape. It was a total mix of cultures.
The people of Sonora and Sinaloa discovered Santo Domingo Valley’s potential for agriculture so they went all the way north and brought their food traditions with them. Mexican coastal influences with European and Asian touches created what we now call the Southern Baja California cuisine.

When we went to Cabo, everytime I had fish taco, it was served with pico de gallo, salsa verde, lettuce and lime.. but never ever with lots of cheese like in the US! And I loved it so much more!

Trisha, I love the way that you are so excited on describing the food you are eating. Anyway, from your channel, now I know some Mexican food and traditions. That made me wanna eat some of them here in Taiwan (because, basically I like eating and trying new food). Before covid, I used to travel and try some food in different Countries. Anyway, after some search, I found there are some Mexican shops here in Taipei. Will be glad to try them. But, I wish covid will end soon and I could directly visit Mexico. Cheers.

Don't worry, it will all be over soon. If not, we'll find a way to live with it. I will wait for you in Mexico and eat a lot in Taiwan for me! I really really miss it!
