    I do like the whole range of RF 1.8 lenses giving great fun in casual shooting. They are unobtrusive and compact while being use, the pictures taken we really enjoy.
    Beside me hating Canon not adding a lens hood and always using a lens hood I love to shoot this tiny lenses without to compromise the nice form factor with a hood.
    In all the years I never had trouble with non weather sealed Canon lenses - but I managed in heavy rain once one weather sealed lens to temporarily go partly dysfunctional.
    Astro work, "serious work" is a different thing for L-lenses. The separation is decent, the plain durability of the non Ls is close to the Ls. The 16 and the 24 is still too high in pricing, the price is to be expected going down over the time.
    All in all the 24 is a lens which turned out me loving using it and getting used to how to shoot 24mm.
    Dustin
    Thanks for the review!

      Right - it is the combination of features in a package this size that makes the lens intriguing.

    This lens lives happily on my R7, coming off only if there's something specific I need another lens for.

      I'm looking forward to buy it for my R7 as well. I hope it will be great for hikes, landscapes, street, close-up shots and low light photos. I intend to pair it with the RF-S 18-150 kit lens as my travel combo.

      @@ft577 It shoots such natural field of view that it's hard to imagine using anything else. I shot almost all of my work holiday party with it last week. I switched to the RF50 for a few portraits, but the space was constrained too much for the narrower FOV.

    I like this lens 😀, together with a variable ND filter it replaced my other lenses for gimbal working, my RF 24-70 f2.8 and a sigma Art 20mm f1.4 because it is so much lighter and it did a great job by filming a squirrel, there I don't know if the 24-70 L would have a better output, but I know it delyvers more than enough for RAW 8K footage (with the R5 and the R5C). Thanks for the Review and I recommend this lens, also I like it for the gimbal over all the much more expensive lenses I own.

    Hi Dustin! I try to find good wider AF prime lens for video (for Canon R5). What would you suggest? 1.8-2.8 aperture would be great. What do you think of these pancakes is the best for video? or is there any other options?

    I feel 24rf has poor value back then 35rf was the only rf prime Canon did lots of promotion bundle deals with it, in Australia it was bundled with R and RP at their respective full retail price for free for a long time.

    I’ve been using this for my TH-cam videos for a while now and it works great for me how i use it. My colors come through good as well as sharpness and clarity when using it with the canon R5.

      I'm thinking of getting it for that as well.
      I just made my first video with the R5C and uses the 24-105 on tripod for talking head stuff, but my hands on POV stuff I used the 16mm prime.
      It's a big heavy rig to hold with one hand lol.
      The 16mm worked, but I think the 24mm will work better because it has image stabilization.
      It's this, or spend more and get the 15-35 2.8 but I'm a little worried about the focus distance on that one and I really don't photograph wide, so seems a waist to get it just for a video lens.

    • @DustinAbbottTWI
      @DustinAbbottTWI  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yes, though you should know that the 1.6x crop factor of the R50 will make the focal length a little over 38mm equivalent, which is a very different framing that what you've seen in this review.

    • @ytwatcher6020
      @ytwatcher6020 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @DustinAbbottTWI Thank you, yes I understand, my other option is the RF16mm but it doesn't have IS, and R50 doesn't have in body IS. Right not I'm using EF-S 10-18 but it's hard to use on night shots so I'm looking for an F2.8 or lower alternative that's not going to break the budget.

      RF24 priced similar to Sony 24G...in comparison RF24 is a much better option. RF24 is vrighter and stabilised.

    Hi Dustin, Great review as usual. These Canon STM RF mount lenses keep getting overlooked by reviewers as a viable option and I don't know why. Just to keep you advised, there was a Photographer in San Franciso that was badly beaten and pistol-whipped while doing wedding photography for his clients. The photographer survived and he never gave up his equipment, but it is disturbing to watch. Two TH-camrs, Vahagraphy and 247 Mediagroup have taken up the cause to bring awareness to the safety issues and concerns that surround this.
    They are asking other TH-camrs to make mention of this so that some photographers and videographers observe some safety steps. If you want further information, check out Vahagraphy and 247media group, but this started on Vahagraphy. If you can take the time out of your busy schedule to check this out and maybe make mention of this on a video regarding safety. This type of behavior is a threat to us all.

      Perhaps, but most people that are regulars to my channel prefer the long format reviews, as there are fewer people in TH-cam that do in depth reviews.
