Very cool tutorial. The other good thing about creating drums via synthesis, is that you can have your drums in the same key as the other elements in your track, without too much messing around.
Thank you so much for this! I've been trying to figure out how to make a nice, punchy kick using just Operator for a long time and your tips helped me get a great sound! Would love more videos on how to get interesting Deep House / Minimal Techno sounds using the Operator synth alone. Very easy to follow & intuitive.
Looking forward that is Mr. Martini! You are a truly proper educated sound engineer. I was wondering if there will be any bass blending with drums? Working on a track and I have some kind of fretless analog bass sample... tnx a bunch! :-)
Hi Diana, I dont think at the moment a tutorial on bass mixing with drums fits into the kind of stuff im putting in which is a bit more of sound designish stuff... But if your problem is that the bass and kick are fighting over, you normally fix this with sidechaining, so when the kick plays, you use the input and volume of the kick to decrease the volume of the bass, you can also use the auto filter's side chain to decrease only the bass frequencies, to you still hear the bass and have less of a pumping effect... If you send me a stripped down version of your track with just the bass and kick I can try to help you out, and ill dig into the filter sidechaining and maybe i even do a tut on that.. thanks for the feedback! :)
Thanks so much again for such kind and detailed info, yes I am totally kinda unfamiliar with the side chaining :) I could send you the stems of bass and drums if you let me know where I can send it. Thanks a bunch Giorgio!
Yo' Daniel, i have been very bussy and havent had time to give it atry, but it seems like is just a regular kick just that it doesnt have a strong click, its sounds like a clear sinwave( not using distortion ) and thats it, just find a kick that is similar form our freepack, remove all clicks (normal and FM click) remove distortion if it has, nad tune if needed. Ill try to come up with something this week end...and let you know... ;-)
Hi G, thanks for the tutorial, i've been working for a while on a kick from a sample track, unfortunately i can not get it right, i was wondering if would be possible for you to help me out to get it with operator or analog, I'm sure is a peace of cake for you. please let me know so i can prepare a link to upload the sample for you. much appreciate.
All good, i just wanted to make sure that u got my email. Well, I thought there was some kind of special way to get it with operator or analog , I tried with operator , sinwave, etc, also i tried layer a few kick samples, i could not get it right, perhaps i was just missing something simple. the kick got my attention because the special sound, i even stripped down, getting rid of the high end leaving a clear 1st soft kick and an 2nd strong kick & part of a bass sound, Much appreciate your tip.
With trigger.. the envelope is 'triggered', even if you just press the note one milisecond the trigger will be 'thrown'... with none... it just plays the bit of time or the bit of note as long as it is played.. Example: Triggered: when u play a bell..the sounds just keeps sounding None: when u play an organ.. sound is only played as long as the note is played
I was following up to the point where you selected both of those things - I can't figure out how to select them at the same time. I tried Shift, Ctrl, Alt, but it didn't work.
Your tutorials are great, very very good job, fm synthesis is not an easy cake. Big respect for thoose three percussives.
Finally some one knows something !
Thanks a lot 👍

Your welcome, i've been very bussy lately but im doing a new tut on creating "organic drums" stay tuned ;-)

nice video! where's the point in changing the loop mode from none to trigger though? since none is the default anyway
With trigger.. the envelope is 'triggered', even if you just press the note one milisecond the trigger will be 'thrown'... with none... it just plays the bit of time or the bit of note as long as it is played..
Example:
Triggered: when u play a bell..the sounds just keeps sounding
None: when u play an organ.. sound is only played as long as the note is played
Dude! Video 👊
going to be doing
lol i know... XD
gracias!
I got close but not the same! gotta practice
I was following up to the point where you selected both of those things - I can't figure out how to select them at the same time. I tried Shift, Ctrl, Alt, but it didn't work.
where exactly ? i mean selecting 2 devices or tracks is normally shift.. check if caps lock is on maybe.. let me know... ;-)
thanks! :)
wow, very helpful.
Thx a lot
+Thomas Ottmann Your welcome! :D
+Giorgio Martini video suggestion ?
+Giorgio Martini hi. where can I download ur free ableton pack? or buy it. the website is already down. thanks
Ill pass u a link in a couple of hours ;)
hey here is the link: dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/12886551/TweakingDrums%20Free%20Pack.zip
Thanks for asking :)
Excellent! I have one question: when you add osc C, isn't that just doubling what osc A is already doing?
In the beginning..yes, but you can adjust and tweak it without affecting Osc A, because the routing is different.
Hi G, did you get my email with sample track?
Yeah really good!
Thanks Andy! :)
perfect! Tchau!
Thanks! btw.. here's anupdaed version of that tutorial. its got some new nice tips: th-cam.com/video/ql2QPDh9j04/w-d-xo.html enjoy! :)
You probably had caps lock on... its shift normally to multi select..;-)
I cant even find the Operator
you mean like recreate or emulate a kick from a song ? sure send me the file...
