The way Rollins describes Iggy back in the day when he’s on tour, he immortalises Iggy as this explosion of ferocity. Unmatched and something otherworldly about him.
Isn't it funny how lucid and clear headed Iggy seems to be? Every interview or clip I've seen of him from the 70s and 80s, he seems to be mentally ill, drugged out or both. Kind of like Mike Watt in this clip.
Iggy is a genetic anomaly similar to an Olympic athlete. Gifted with supreme levels of strength, endurance, and pain threshold. Mere mortals would have gotten seriously hurt or worse very quickly performing like he did and still does.
" Few rock stars gets legendary before their death..." I prob could name 50 who were legendary before their deaths, starting with Elvis, Little Richard and Chuck.
Saw him years ago in Tibet at the museum in Lhasa. Stalked him for a couple minutes. I'm a moderate fan of his music, but love his honesty and views on equal rights, peace and free speech.
Iggy's story about trying to dig out the burned out house in Detroit, and what he says @14:04-14:08, perfectly sums it up as to how and why he attained his iconic success. He truly is a legend in his own time...
"when they burned down detroit, after things cooled off, we didn't have any money for a bandhouse. i went to detroit i borrowed a shovel from the mc5, and i took some mescalin, and i called up ron, and i said, i've got a house for us, a bandhouse, free, i'm gonna dig out... i spent about 10 hours til i came down, trying to dig soot out of this burned out house, on woodward..." i love iggy
I was 15 when this was on tv and I had that same stooges shirt Iggy is wearing. I remember wanting to find red pants to go with it after seeing this haha
When you get legends of this caliber into the same room...they could talk about the weather and nothing else and the exchange would still be LEGENDARY :D R.I.P. Asheton
If you hear the uncut versions of the 1st Stooges record, their music was a LOT more about Ron, not Iggy. John Cale (as progressive and artsy as he is/was) made it a more pop, short-song record. Songs like Ann are 10x better with Ron jamming out full-length. Of course, Iggy was the king live, but shame the record was cut down originally.
I knew collage kids that lived in the stooges house in Ann Arbor Michigan it was this dump of house with lots of wholes and writing on the basement walls. With the words James was here.
A really great, really honest interview from the guys... Rollins did a great job on this in letting Iggy and Ron let their guard down. 'The Weirdness' album pales in comparison to the brand new 2013 'READY TO DIE' album, but this was awesome to watch. Thanks for sharing.
hahahaha iggy is so fucking awesome. "i got a shovel from the mc5 and took a bunch of mescalin" oh man, that killed me. it's amazing how down to earth they are when they are one of the most influential groups of the 20th century.
God, I know some people might get pissed off at me saying this, but imagine if Ron had taken Mike Watt’s place on bass and James Williamson took over on guitar? And all of them were sitting here getting interviewed. That would have been perfect!!!!
iantoau He's just sitting there wishing that he wasn't there...listening to rock icons talking politics with Henry Rollins...Ugh! I would probably be severely depressed too.
What the hell is wrong with Mike Watt? Did he have a stroke? The best Iggy album since Raw Power is Beat Em Up. I dont know what he was on or who he was banging when he made that album but he REALLY needs to get back into that headspace again cos that album was the closest thing to the original Stooges that I've ever heard him do...
Its pretty interesting hearing about musicians having to get out of the draft. In an era so dominated by English bands, thats not something they ever worried about. Hearing it from American bands is almost new.
Ted Nugent went to the extreme when getting out of the draft. A lot of people who hate him make fun of him for that, but those same people would have done the same to avoid getting drafted.
I've been following Henry for a long time, and this is the only time where I thought he felt intimidated. He was sitting on that stool looking like a kid talking to his idols
I went to Glastonbury in 2007. I wandered around all day, same old crap.... Then, as it was getting dark, Ron Asheton came on, and started riffing it up. I thought 'oh, ok!...' then this half nude madman appeared and destroyed it. Iggy Pop, I am an uncool boy from near London, and you made my day. x
Sorry I didn't get to see them with Ron (more than sorry...actually), but this appearance convinced me that a reunited Stooges could be a lucrative thing. Good stuff.
difference is that iggy was on the scene in the 1960's, rollins wasn't(I know were the exact same age)....I never got into the whole punk attitude after vietnam was over, maybe for the brits, it all sounded like noise to me...I'd rather listen to c.s.n. or the stones anyday of the year. What were guys like rollins rebelling against!!??? Good music??!!!!
Once upon a time I was in the music section of the local library flipping thru the CD's. There were two kids there maybe 10 or 12 years old. I hear one of them say, "Oh, Journey I'm getting this" right about the time I flipped over "RAW Power". I took the crappy CD handed it to them and said, "Put that CD down and take this. Go Home. Lock yourself in your room, put this in and turn your stereo up all the way, and no matter what your parents do or say, DON'T come out until the CD is over. You'll thank me in 10 years...."
That hotel / or motel he mentions ( sharing with the Warhol people ) ... was it The Palm's on Santa Monica? ( darn it can't remember the name ) but I will bet a dollar to a doughnut it had a little swimming pool painted black and a pretty cool coffee shop.

Get these men some comfortable chairs god dammit
I know wtf is this
Henry give these gentlemen a couch please
Henry seems like the type who likes discomfort, makes him more productive or some shit. Crazy but amazing guy.
Love Iggy and The Stooges
You’ll never see a group like this, again
This is it
The way Rollins describes Iggy back in the day when he’s on tour, he immortalises Iggy as this explosion of ferocity. Unmatched and something otherworldly about him.
Yeah he's like a hardcore punk version of him .
Iggy wearing a stooges shirt with a younger him with no shirt on is cracking me up lol
i love how much Mike Watt hates being on camera.
Rollins and Iggy- what more could you want?
+Kat B Uh, Lots. Like, and by way of example, just Iggy by himself.
Right?
Few rock stars gets legendary before their death, but Iggy is an icon and one of the very few that is legendary, and still kicks ass.
Isn't it funny how lucid and clear headed Iggy seems to be? Every interview or clip I've seen of him from the 70s and 80s, he seems to be mentally ill, drugged out or both. Kind of like Mike Watt in this clip.
ptothej100
Iggy claims that around the mid-Eighties, he quit the drug, indiscriminate sex lifestyle "cold potatoes".
Yep
Iggy is a genetic anomaly similar to an Olympic athlete. Gifted with supreme levels of strength, endurance, and pain threshold. Mere mortals would have gotten seriously hurt or worse very quickly performing like he did and still does.
" Few rock stars gets legendary before their death..." I prob could name 50 who were legendary before their deaths, starting with Elvis, Little Richard and Chuck.
I saw iggy back in 68
i was swimming in my dad's balls back tren, wait... not even.
Watching this in 2021 ! We only wish this show was still going ! Henry did a dang good job ! ❤️
only Iggy could rep his own band's t-shirt in an interview and make it look cool
+Michael Bowe He only owns shirts he got for free..
adam tarver lol
One of the greatest bands ever, thank you Henry.
Saw him years ago in Tibet at the museum in Lhasa. Stalked him for a couple minutes. I'm a moderate fan of his music, but love his honesty and views on equal rights, peace and free speech.
D Jenkins talking about Henry Rollins?
Iggy's story about trying to dig out the burned out house in Detroit, and what he says
@14:04-14:08, perfectly sums it up as to how and why he attained his iconic success. He truly is a legend in his own time...
I heard Mike watt was high as fuck on dxm in this interview...sure explains it
"when they burned down detroit, after things cooled off, we didn't have any money for a bandhouse. i went to detroit i borrowed a shovel from the mc5, and i took some mescalin, and i called up ron, and i said, i've got a house for us, a bandhouse, free, i'm gonna dig out... i spent about 10 hours til i came down, trying to dig soot out of this burned out house, on woodward..."
i love iggy
RIP Ashton Bros.
'i remember the mace canister bouncing off my moms VW' is like an opening line from a kurt vonnegut story or something.
Hearing Iggy's voice makes me feel like I'm at home. I love his Michigan accent
" we had a band...we didn't want to go to war.... we had a band " ............. absolutely brill
Got to see The Stooges right before Ron died. R.I.P Ron 💔
❤
Iggy has the most endearing smile...
I got to see Iggy back in 2017,
And it was RIGHTEOUS!
I was 15 when this was on tv and I had that same stooges shirt Iggy is wearing. I remember wanting to find red pants to go with it after seeing this haha
Im so glad J Mascis had to do with this reunion. J Mascis IS my personal hero.
No band will ever be as great as The Stooges, Iggy & the Stooges, or Iggy Pop. It's a fact.
you're only right
OMG, Iggy is wearing a shirt!
Iggy is wearing an Iggy shirt! Inception!
Is Mike Watt high in this interview?
When you get legends of this caliber into the same room...they could talk about the weather and nothing else and the exchange would still be LEGENDARY :D R.I.P. Asheton
Rollins neck could kick my ass.
Look at Corey Taylor
Andy Itliong Yes. taylor has fucking hulk neck.
I have met mike watt and henry rollins
Man, his monologue sounds like its from a million years ago. Rip
This is amazing 😻
Great interview with Iggy. I thought The Weirdness was a terrible album, but this interview was awesome.
I love Henry
Ron Ashton looks like Walter from Big Leowboski
Wow opening for Rod and the Faces! That probably went over well.....
I feel so bad yet so stoked for Mike.
This guy looks a lot like Bas Rutten
Iggy is the King of Rock and Roll.

I've only heard raw power outtakes. Wow, I'm gonna have to search for that.
I knew collage kids that lived in the stooges house in Ann Arbor Michigan it was this dump of house with lots of wholes and writing on the basement walls. With the words James was here.
I think iggy is Stallones long lost cousin.
LMFAOOOO omg, I can never unsee this. sn : loved you in pulp fiction.
A really great, really honest interview from the guys... Rollins did a great job on this in letting Iggy and Ron let their guard down. 'The Weirdness' album pales in comparison to the brand new 2013 'READY TO DIE' album, but this was awesome to watch. Thanks for sharing.

Respect....People here very much high above any politician on the planet. Amen
One of the worst tragedies in music is the fact that these guys got back together and then the Ashtons fucking died...
Funny how Iggy looks the most energetic and youthful. Either bathing in virgin blood or Viking genes.
What did Watt TAKE?
DXM apparently
Saw the Stooges in Benicassim they were incredible
Iggy's reaction at 4:00 lol
I love how awestruck mike watt is.......hahaha after a year of playing with Ron Ashton, he still can't fuckiing believe it..
Mike watt is cool i saw him play with porno for pyros twice in one weekend in Melbourne in 96 it was awesome fun I loved it
what's with watt, what was he on?
Is Scott wearing the same hat that Eric the Pilot was wearing?
I met a man who said he was a stooge for the CIA.
Rollins would make a great TH-cam podcast show imo
God, I know some people might get pissed off at me saying this, but imagine if Ron had taken Mike Watt’s place on bass and James Williamson took over on guitar? And all of them were sitting here getting interviewed. That would have been perfect!!!!
hey henry how do you like these obama years?
Iggy cuts through all the artifice in society with answers that matter.
lol the way he said watch in awe
Mike Watt looks like a victim - of some strange depravity.
iantoau He's just sitting there wishing that he wasn't there...listening to rock icons talking politics with Henry Rollins...Ugh! I would probably be severely depressed too.
+pigsnott
He was on SST with rollins and loved the Stooges. I think he was just baked.
+Matthias Carrigan Mike watt is not an excellent bassist is an EXCELLENT bassist
Jerome Fecto
...what?
Robert Pike How much time do you spend watching Alex Jones? Holy fuck
i agree, you cant stop a man on Mescaline...
He knows want he's doing
Ron looked like he was in is late 30s to early 40s!
I think he hates being on camera lol He wasn't a member so maybe he wasn't expecting to be interviewed.
Henry Rollins for President.
The interview is being done in Paddys pub
Its pretty interesting hearing about musicians having to get out of the draft. In an era so dominated by English bands, thats not something they ever worried about. Hearing it from American bands is almost new.

"My War" still listen
I went to Glastonbury in 2007. I wandered around all day, same old crap....
Then, as it was getting dark, Ron Asheton came on, and started riffing it up. I thought 'oh, ok!...' then this half nude madman appeared and destroyed it.
Iggy Pop, I am an uncool boy from near London, and you made my day. x
You Will always be that One Song..
Nobody Knows but Me.. R.Kay
Rollins is a man god, long live Iggy and bless the Stooges
Sorry I didn't get to see them with Ron (more than sorry...actually), but this appearance convinced me that a reunited Stooges could be a lucrative thing. Good stuff.
the WEIRDNESS by the STOOGES do I have that correct ?
Henry is going to turn into Henry Winkler... I cant wait for his reverse mortgage tv commercials

rollins tells it straight...I like him....don't really get his music , but fuk it...I'd have a beer with the man
No you wouldn't...he doesn't drink.
Billy23201 He could still have a beer, get Henry a lemonade or something.
difference is that iggy was on the scene in the 1960's, rollins wasn't(I know were the exact same age)....I never got into the whole punk attitude after vietnam was over, maybe for the brits, it all sounded like noise to me...I'd rather listen to c.s.n. or the stones anyday of the year. oreokookie To paraphrase: "What have you got?"
i can connect with H on a bodybuilding level, it builds confidence. We're the same age, and i was once, like Henry, a lil puny punk!!!!
❤ iggy.
'"I saw an opportunity. You can't stop a guy like that.""
2 years after this and Ron is dead.
Don't forget Scott and Mackay, a year apart from each other. Iggy's and James are all that's left.
Is Mike Watt sleeping?
Mark Chapman was in The Stooges?
"But that bitch stole my glow in the dark skull ring!"
MIKE WATT!
I don't think i've ever seen Iggy wear a shirt before. .. I think i like him better shirtless, this is just too weird.
He wore a dress with a bonnet in the film Dead Man.
Him and Rollins shouldve been shirtless the whole time
Not just any shirt, a stooges shirt.
Once upon a time I was in the music section of the local library flipping thru the CD's. There were two kids there maybe 10 or 12 years old. I wonder what drugs Watt is on.
when Iggy starts stretching as he prepares to eat this guys spleen (metaphorically speaking).... so good
I wonder who won.
He who despairs of the human condition is a coward, but he who has hope for it is a fool.
- Albert Camus (1913-60)
VIVA HENRY ROLLINS !
WAYNE KRAMER , MIKE WATT, IGGY POP , AND TIM ARMSTRONG = THE NEW STOOGES 2014 ( SINCE THE ASHETONS ARE NOT AROUND ANYMORE ) GOD BLESS RON AND SCOTT
How did I use to admire this guy? I was young I suppose and a writer, also.
3:38 to cut the armchair politician bullshit.
thanks
Ah, calm down will ya
Henry never skipped neck day .
Mike Looks Beat.
What the heck did Mike mumble at 5:30? The other band members moved quickly to cover for him. That's kind of sad.
***** Oh! He was a boy when the band first came out. I get it now. Thanks.
live at GOOSE LAKE is top of all
That hotel / or motel he mentions ( sharing with the Warhol people ) ... was it The Palm's on Santa Monica? ( darn it can't remember the name ) but I will bet a dollar to a doughnut it had a little swimming pool painted black and a pretty cool coffee shop.
Heavy stuff!
The Stooges are electricity.
