They need to try a Hubig's pie with a Barq's root beer or Big Shot soda. All the flavors, apple, lemon, and chocolate were my regular flavor favorites. Sweet potato was my favorite seasonal flavor.
"Would you eat an alligator?" Honestly, gator is really good. It's just like a tougher/chewier version of chicken. Tastes super similar but when it's cooked right, it's really good.
Gator is only tough if you don't marinate it long enough. Been to gator farms and they had it really tender while most places is more chewy. But still good though
I agree, gator is quite tasty (FYI for those not familiar, the meat is from the gator tail); however, I would also say that it's best eaten hot, preferably as soon as possible from cooking, as it takes on a bit of a greasy texture when it cools much.
Darren, Zapp's is a Louisiana company so that is NOT a lobster on the package but a crawfish or crayfish. Boiled crawfish are a favorite in New Orleans eateries. You will see t-shirts for sale with "Just Suck the Head" on them which refers to how you eat crawfish.
Bought out in 2011 by Utz of Hanover, PA. Utz was previously only a regional snack company in the Northeast but the acquisition of Zappe Endeavors made them a national company overnight.
Cajun and Creole are terms that date back to the days when people were not just concerned about people's ethnic backgrounds, but had specific terms for admixtures of ethnicities. Cajuns are the descendants of French people who used to live on the eastern coast of Canada. Creoles usually refer to people of mixed French and African bloodlines. But nowadays it's easier to think of Cajuns as being the country folk of Louisiana and the Creoles as being the city folk, although that's not a rule that's set in concrete.
Mesquite wood, which grows all over Texas, is one of the best ever woods with which to cook/grill/barbeque. Other woods can be used as flavourings for the smoke, but Mesquite provides the best base for cookery where the smoke and temperature are of equal importance.

Creole refers to those of mixed European and African descent. In regard to Louisiana, the European background comes from French Acadians who moved to the area from Canada.
Baton Rouge isn’t creole. Common misconception. Main colonial influences were the Acadians (from Canada, basically peoples of Cajun origin), the Spanish ( they had a fort in the city that was stormed by local mainly Anglo/irish/german locals. The West Florida rebellion) and English/irish/german which have controlled the area since. There is also a lot of African influence but not to the degree as in New Orleans. I ❤ Zapp’s. Voodoo flavor is my absolute favorite. I can murder them. I think some of the name references went over you guy’s head. The word creole can have multiple meanings but one of them is a cooking/seasoning style.
Because Darren asked the question, I offer this conventional answer. Cajun food has French origins. Roux, and an unique aromatic mixture of onions, celery, and bell peppers are essential. This is in many sauces, and gumbos; which is a stew that comes from a West African word for “okra”. Spice blends are key. Every Cajun chef has their own. Creole refers to Caribbean culture, which is vital to the New Orleans’ identity. Add tomatoes to the mix, and you get Creole. I specialize in cooking Cajun/Creole food.
Mr. Zapp was a guest lecturer for one of my business classes in college, it was very fascinating to learn about his guerilla marketing approach to be able to compete with Frito-lay. Hotter-N-Hot jalapeno is my jam though.
Zapp’s make a solid chip. The hotter than hot is really just slightly warming, but it does have good flavor. I appreciate that they aren’t just a gimmick chip with 2.4M Scoville units of heat.
I commend the editing work on Darren and Taran. They _really_ made it look like those two actually Tryed the Evil Eye chips despite their steadfast refusal.
The chips are a southern thing and creole is a southern representation of food made by folks there of mixed European (French or Spanish or both) and African American descent, especially from the Caribbean regions
Zapp's is only my 2nd favorite chip brand because Grippo's Cheddar and Horseradish exists. Not generally a fan of kettle chips but Zapp's just nails everything.
Hello from Mesquite, Texas 👋 And Darren, we basically have BBQ sauce running through our veins so the mosquitos down here probably do taste like BBQ, too.
people eat gator all over the gulf coast. i worked in a cajun restaurant and have chopped and marinated hundreds of pounds of it. it's a tricky meat, if you undercook it, it's rubbery, if you overcook it, it's rubbery. when marinated and cooked properly, very tender and tastes like chicken with a hint of the swamp. we used farm raised gator. i imagine wild gator is a lot more gamey
I thought I had seen Zapp's at my local Publix but all they had were Voodoo and Crawdad. I love a good BBQ chip so I'll keep looking around until I find some.

"I kinda want to be fighting back a cough the whole time." 😀😀 That an odd and specific demand to ask of a crisp.
The chips are a southern thing and creole is a southern representation of food made by folks there of mixed European (French or Spanish or both) and African American descent, especially from the Caribbean regions
taran and paddy has no problem with the chips it was a fun video
Zapp's is only my 2nd favorite chip brand because Grippo's Cheddar and Horseradish exists. Not generally a fan of kettle chips but Zapp's just nails everything.
Paddy. You made me spit laugh with the dill though.
Hello from Mesquite, Texas 👋
And Darren, we basically have BBQ sauce running through our veins so the mosquitos down here probably do taste like BBQ, too.
Epic Paddy on this one.
Dill, though.
Who is this new guy? I absolutely love him.
Noob
Wait am I old
I’ve got Zapp’s Evil Eye and Voodoo flavors in my pantry right now!
Their pretzels are awesome too!!!
people eat gator all over the gulf coast. i worked in a cajun restaurant and have chopped and marinated hundreds of pounds of it. it's a tricky meat, if you undercook it, it's rubbery, if you overcook it, it's rubbery. when marinated and cooked properly, very tender and tastes like chicken with a hint of the swamp. we used farm raised gator. i imagine wild gator is a lot more gamey
I thought I had seen Zapp's at my local Publix but all they had were Voodoo and Crawdad. I love a good BBQ chip so I'll keep looking around until I find some.
