Let’s be honest, the reason there’s no lines is because Black Friday DEALS are no longer worth braving the lines and freezing cold for. All retailers do now is con shoppers into buying junk. I remember a few years ago there was a good deal on a certain TV, when we got in the store we were told they only had 2 of those TV’s to sell and both had been grabbed by other shoppers already. They draw you in with a good deal that you have no chance of getting (because they have extremely low stock of the good deal), knowing you’ll impulse buy junk just to make you feel better for having spent hours waiting in the cold. Nope. No thanks.
Things are too expensive, we buying what we need, and we're sick of getting out our bed and waiting in a long line. Waking up and shopping online is safe and don't involve fighting someone for the last item that you want.
Thank you. Someone get's it. I have 100% agree why can't it be both? Things are too expensive. our wallets are being closed tight. and we shop online maybe. And we are all just buying the bare minimum of what we need.
Not true…. They will get you on Easter, Halloween, Christmas, New Years, Tax Season, Valentines and all these other Anglo Saxon Pagan Holidays where you make the rich richer all hidden behind fake love while you are broke.
No. People don't have any money on top of out-of-control inflation. It's NOT about online shopping. I own two small online businesses that would normally thrive around now & I'm selling nothing. Friends that do the same in different industries are also hurting. Lots of people also want the experience, sure many of us didn't like it but many also did. They just liked going out for the day, having some food & a good time with family or friends & coming home to wrap some presents. People liked the experience but now there isn't even money for that.
I bought Starbucks gift card on black Friday. Buy $20 get an extra $5. Also body wash and hand soap from bath and body works, buy 3 get 3 for free I also have a coupon for spend $75 get $25 and an e-mail coupon for $20 off. Now that's a good deal.
And pretty soon it will be very hard to find food to put on the table and Jesus said this is only the beginning of the horse to come it’s going to wax worse and worse revelations 13 Matthew 24
Same thing with me. Have an online store selling completely nothing. Been in business for 9 years....never experienced anything like this where October and November ( usually super busy months) SELLING ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. IT'S SHOCKING..People are literally extremely afraid to spend money.Every industry got hit....both ONLINE and offline stores.
100%. Normally I'd get excited for Black Friday sales, I haven't bothered to check anything at all this time...because we can't afford it. Sad that a lot of people right now can't even afford the sales to get ready for Christmas let alone the real costs. Inflation is killing everyone under the "middle class" which that class won't even exist very soon.
People once thought they'd never see a day where malls wouldn't be jam packed or see them close down entirely. Things change, we don't rent at Blockbuster, we don't take taxis because of Uber, we don't use public payphones, people don't go to the drug store to get pictures developed anymore. Times do change and it's daunting to see it happen before your eyes
People don’t take taxis because the charge is ridiculous and they discriminate, no one uses public pay phones because they hardly exist anymore, and people do get photos developed. It’s just not a necessity anymore
People are FINALLY getting smart! I never understood the black friday shopping frenzy. The stores are open every day of the year and you can shop online 24/7. It's nauseating to see the fights over cheap merch, employees injured and bad behavior.
Exactly. I did all my shopping online and I did all my shopping months ago off of eBay and other sites. I got plenty of good deals no reason to sit around, holding your breath for one day out of the year lol
No everyone just caught on it's not really a sale. And besides we live in a whole new world now people just trying to figure out how they're going to survive
I live across the street from the south county mall, it hasn't been busy at all in recent weeks, much less Black Friday. Its not just brick and mortar retailers who're hurting, I run an e-commerce business and I'm thousands in the negative this year. I saw very little traffic and just a handful of sales during this year's Black Friday. People are broke. There's still plenty of jobs available, but many don't pay so well, and layoffs are hitting the jobs that do pay well. We did have several quarters of economic decline, so we are technically in a recession right now.

Let's be honest, people didn't do it cause we just don't have the money. The deals aren't that great, and no one makes enough to spend the hundreds of dollars we use to. For the past couple of years I have had to start Christmas shopping in January and put it up for December and shop through the year. I will do that again next year as well, cause frankly unless you make over $100,000 a year, you just can't wait no more. The economy sucks for most people and it is affecting how we spend on the holidays. I even had to cut back on what I made for Thanksgiving this year cause of the prices of food. Usually we get a ham for Christmas, and this year it doesn't look like we are going to get one cause the cheapest we have found one so far is around $60 where we live.

Never shopped Black Friday in my entire life. I don’t understand why people even do. Probably retailers conditioning us to be consumerists. I can buy online easily, and buy things when I need them, not when they’re on sale
You used to get the best deal on a good item or even got something that is very hard to get. For example i got my PS5 2 years ago on black Friday. They were impossible to buy, even online back then. Same with graphics cards. Another example i got a 34pcs GLASS Tupperware set for $15 that's very high quality. And a $250 nighthawk router for $80.... These items i got about 4 years ago. And i didn't have to wait in line for these items i just showed up around 8am. That's why I do black Friday shopping, this year they had no real good deals at all. Most of the stuff was only like $20-$40 off retail price, a very common price cut.
I worked at Walmart as a kart pusher during black Friday last year. Was rather tame compared to my other ones in retail. Still a constant amount people coming in but I could chill and smoke in my car for half hour. Every hour and not have to do much. It was probably my most enjoyable time at work.
I've kept a wishlist all year for things that would make my life easier around the house and it's been interesting to see how the price on items on my list increased and then went "on sale" for black Friday keeping it at the same price as before. No deals
I'm good...I am just at home enjoying my peace. I didn't even buy anything online today. I am definitely on a limited income, but I used to at least go out and enjoy the scenery. I work in retail and Black Friday was insanely busy and my store made about $30k above our goal that day. Funny enough our discount was actually worth shopping for compared to these other stores only advertising 20% off or “up to” 40%
Why is it so hard to understand that having to drive somewhere and deal with unhelpful people be better than shopping in the comfort of your house and having your purchases show up at your doorstep?… Also Walmart doesn’t even bother putting out Black Friday deals in store anyways, so people will not bother showing up there for sure 🤨

Several years ago i went to a black Friday sale. I was first in line. I went in and got the shopping cart full of things for my kids. Pushed the cart up to chek out,and they announced Store is closing in 15 minutes. They would nit allow any sales of anything. Later that day i learned: someone in line fell, and the crowd litterally trampled the person to death. I have never been back to any black Friday sale.

Not just online shopping and inflation killing off this worst of American holidays, it's also most stores running sales minus the doorbusters the week before Black Friday.
I think this was a combo of things. Inflation is encouraging people to spend less, stores rolled out Black Friday deals early, people are scared of the crazy sales mobs, and yeah, sometimes shopping online is easier if you already know what you want. I personally love shopping in person at malls and stores, so I don’t think in-person shopping is dead. In fact, I spend more when I’m physically in the stores than online. However, I tend to avoid Black Friday shopping and go online when I know what I want to get someone and don’t wanna impulse-buy.
Trump's mean tweets are looking better and better every day. Hard to believe so many people prefer the devastation provided by the Brandon administration

@@themonkeyhand what makes you think they're buying online when many people here have expressed they work in online retail and they're not doing any better either

Walked out without buying anything after going to various stores. And the stores I did go to were packed with people paying for stuff even then it wasn’t worth it waiting in line to pay or even browsing since it was packed.
I remember someone saying they passed by a parade recently, and they were just about to join, but they thought,"This is a perfect setting for a mass shooting, and passed in more ways than one.

I feel that people are sick of cooking their Thanksgiving dinner so early to serve it at two in the afternoon so that they can run to the stores. The department stores had been getting out of control with their store hours for over a decade.
I never understood this, how can a person not feel bad for their fellow citizens there working on thanksgiving when they should be home with their family. Amazon isn’t really any better requiring workers to work all the holidays too. I’m glad that most of the stores this year where closed on thanksgiving not that I would go in anyway it’s sad!
The odds of me getting mugged or my car busted into while I'm shopping goes to zero when I stay at home. I wish people could go out without fear and enjoy life the way it was a few short years ago. It can happen again.

It's not that more people are buying online. It's that more people cant afford bad deals anymore. Used to be that you could buy a tv almost half off if not more. Now they're only 20 percent or less. Look at how the price of products change through the year. We aren't getting good deals anymore.

Most stores were closed on Thanksgiving and there were really no Black Friday doorbuster ads this year. For example, a few years ago I saw ads for Target, Walmart, Macy's, Best Buy with the times each sale began. This year there were no ads like this, at least not in my area. There were a lot of online early Black Friday specials though. It's no surprise.
It’s because of all the shootings and how crazy people are. Plus, I don’t think there’s anything on sale enough that you can’t live without it. The economy is slowing sales as well.
Online deals days before Thanksgiving, employees not wanting to work anymore on Thanksgiving, add in inflation….This has all doomed Black Friday. Oh, and throw in the potential of getting followed and mugged that’s increased sharply nationwide!……It’s the new normal for shopping now.
I havent been in a best buy in years. After cds and records and just the fun of going to check things out are long gone. Bunch of geeks working there anyway that have no knowledge
BestBuy is doing ok, they are trimming back some stores which they should be doing. The "keep unprofitable stores open indefinitely until it's too late" is what resulted in other big box stores collasping.
That's why everyone should carry a gun. People would be much more polite. They wouldn't know if your someone that will shoot them in the face if they came to assault you
Probably bc you won’t get into crowed areas with people who could be carrying a gun. Probably bc people realize going out that late as adults in STL is kinda dangers when you are carrying goods. It makes sense
I think this is also a generational thing. My parents and aunts loved to go early to shop plus that was the only way to get “deals”. My age group never saw the point and those after my group definitely won’t be into it so…it basically is a thing of the past. I noticed no stores giving out free stuff to the first people in-line and no deals are happening that weren’t already happening online. That’s why nobody is out.
I drove down to the street in front of one of the main mall that normally takes a hour to go one block on black Friday. But today it was normal traffic.
It became "just a transaction" when they put up self checkout and the employees basically all say "I don't know" or "that's not my department" because since they aren't getting a decent wage they also don't care about the store.
Absolutely, totally agree with your comment here! I also get the "I just started working here, I don't know" line along with the ones you mentioned, so I decided no one wants my money...specially if they're going to want to just show up, punch-in and punch-out without actually doing anything at all. 🙁
That is strange because where I live, the Tanger Outlet mall was standing room only, in the AM. I guess it is where you live also. Also, shopping & having things delivered can be a pain too, because people, steal the items that are delivered. Frankly I was surprised, I’ve never been that person who cares to stand in line but I would take my coffee to people watch and walk after feast a night before. Growing up We had one TV in our house - My parents never bought a second TV. My dad knew how to be frugal with his money. I always thought he was cheap but he retired and lived comfortably until his death. They didn’t buy anything new unless they were replacing that item. by stopping the whole consumerism phenomenon that we got caught up in in our early 30s, we paid off all debt. We’ve been able to renovate our house by paying cash and doing it over a course of five years, instead of instant gratification-Of course this is all my God‘s blessing and provision but we learned we were being greedy and constantly desiring more and more- by changing our habits our kids, who are now grown, value their dollars earned and are wiser than we were in our spending- WE ARE TRULY A GREEDY AND WASTEFUL SOCIETY-
I got 10 TV's all HD and 4k so buying another one will be stupid, so I'll just look for this oh I got that too, so I guess I'll sit this black Friday out and watch Netflix 🤣🤣🤣 sale hit different when you got everything that's on sale
I agree. Retail companies have been pushing us to spend more & more every year. Like you, when I see a tv on sale, I asked where will I put it, in the garage?!! Though we bought a new oven range on sale which replaced our 20 yr old broken oven & some small furnitures, all on sale & likely to last a long time, not frivolous little items that are bought on impulse & that will just clog my closet. And also I'd been cleaning out my closet & filling bags with items I don't need or use anymore & donate them to our local church thrift store. That's one thing the pandemic was good for, started me on de-cluttering my house.

The economy is slowing sales as well.
nah man, it's because the "deals" aren't deals at all, you don't save much money on Black Friday anymore, not really worth it. That plus inflation
I mean their “black Friday” deals now are like “20%” off. That’s not a Black Friday deal, that’s a coupon.
Online deals days before Thanksgiving, employees not wanting to work anymore on Thanksgiving, add in inflation….This has all doomed Black Friday. Oh, and throw in the potential of getting followed and mugged that’s increased sharply nationwide!……It’s the new normal for shopping now.
😔 Damn. The future looks pretty grim.
being followed and mugged?! tf?! that's not happening.
@@TheMotherofTacos Are you kidding me? You don’t get out much do you?
@@TheMotherofTacos do you get out at all? It's dangerous out there
@@TheMotherofTacos You must not know people being rob in broad daylight I rather stay home with my gun and wait for packages 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Plus isn’t Best Buy kinda going out of business??? They closed a TON of stores, & their prices are STILL higher than most other places.
I havent been in a best buy in years. After cds and records and just the fun of going to check things out are long gone. Bunch of geeks working there anyway that have no knowledge
BestBuy is doing ok, they are trimming back some stores which they should be doing. The "keep unprofitable stores open indefinitely until it's too late" is what resulted in other big box stores collasping.
yup one closed near me
@@Rushlarz2112 They have no Clue what they are doing 🤣🤣🤣🤣
We all gotta pay rent…
Amen
Nah! The media does not want you to know, shoppers are holding on to their expenses because of inflation.
Even with money, why would anybody stand in line; and, thereafter, await the subsequent mugging, mayhem, and perhaps loss of life?
That's why everyone should carry a gun. People would be much more polite. They wouldn't know if your someone that will shoot them in the face if they came to assault you
Probably bc you won’t get into crowed areas with people who could be carrying a gun. Probably bc people realize going out that late as adults in STL is kinda dangers when you are carrying goods. It makes sense
That’s why I order online or go to the military NEX if I buy anything. The military police are close to the store this time of year.
Haven't had work in weeks... Shopping for BS gifts is not on my list of purchases.
I think this is also a generational thing. My parents and aunts loved to go early to shop plus that was the only way to get “deals”. My age group never saw the point and those after my group definitely won’t be into it so…it basically is a thing of the past. Plus y’all in St. Louis, ain’t nobody waiting outside to get robbed or catch a bullet.
St. Louis is far from safe someone could easily be robbed or take a bullet
True I’m in my 20s most people don’t cook and only thing we do buy is clothes which we order online and we damn sure don’t buy electronics unless it’s an apple product or house item.
I miss Black Friday as a tradition with my family- my mom would get so excited lol we would go to ihop as a group then “divide & conquer “ at different stores to get the items she had found in the papers lol
Mom passed away & since COVID honestly we barely make it by with rent & groceries anymore… it’s sorely missed as a tradition but honestly we just didn’t have the extra for it anymore. I know last year I said maybe next year but I don’t see anything changing… just rent going up & grocery prices 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️
Same. 4 people I know have committed suicide because of inflation.
@@bidencockboy7608 oh my god that’s terrible. My condolences 😢❤
@@bidencockboy7608 wow that is terrible. Money comes and goes but it isn’t worth ending your life over
Online shopping and receive it in a few days safely. That's the new normal! It says a lot about the times we're living in.
That’s how i do it even for groceries every now and then.
I noticed no stores giving out free stuff to the first people in-line and no deals are happening that weren’t already happening online. That’s why nobody is out.
Went to Walmart and no one but workers were there. It was insane. Years prior it was busy. It was kinda sad.
I drove down to the street in front of one of the main mall that normally takes a hour to go one block on black Friday. But today it was normal traffic.
Those days are gone.
SO IS THE MONEY
@@harryballsacky that part!
Crime, has really taken a toll on everything from going out, grocery shopping, shopping in general. Going to church, etc.
Ms. B. Churchill
Crime is way lower than it was 10, 20, 30, or even 40 years ago and the recent uptick hasn't even come close to returning to how things used to be.
@@themonkeyhand lol
uhhhhhh okay sure, propaganda bot
Thats cuz people know there isnt any real sales. Its marked up in price then brought back down to year round sales. Or just raised up in price
Goodwill, consignment and resale shops have been packed lately! “You will own nothing and be happy”
Goodwill is a fraud… I think prices in the store a better…
Frankly I was surprised, I’ve never been that person who cares to stand in line but I would take my coffee to people watch and walk after feast a night before. I’ve always been that person who only buy what I need. This year it was empty I still enjoyed my walk, although I miss that people connection I am glad no one was getting trampled.
I almost never shop in a store at all anymore
I do. It's fun interacting with other humans.
@@henrykirk4457 No, it's not.

@@shalawndudley2094 I try not to interact at all people crazier nowadays in and out fast not trying to get catch by some fool shooting up the store 🤣🤣🤣🤣
bc these deals aren’t actually deals lol. they raise the price 3-4 weeks before BF & then lower it so u think you’re getting a deal. it’s not bc of online shoppers at all.
Inflation on Gas and Groceries, WTF has money for christmas presents
Also bills and payments
Guess what else is gone? The middle class.
Nobody does that mess anymore 😂
No kidding that’s so 2006 I don’t think in the last two years except for maybe at GameStop I’ve made one single purchase in person everything that I buy for myself and for my kids is online that’s where all the cool stuff is lol
People are spending more on necessities. They can’t afford discretionary items.
Gas too high im broke...
If gas went to .99 a gallon then everyone would go crazy.
Yes black Friday at the gas station
As other people said, the deals are no longer there. Last time I worked black friday was 2009 and prices were being raised for black friday back then, but there still were a few great finds out there. Now that I can just buy online effortlessly and buy what I actually want instead of whats available.. well.. this is another ill omen for brick and mortar stores
NO MONEY HONEY.... PAYING CRAZY RENT, CRAZY GAS AND CRAZY FOOD PRICES!!!!!!
Anyone else notice buying from the manufacturer is sometimes cheaper than Amazon??
I just don’t want to spend my money on stuff anymore! I don’t know if it’s age, but we got to a point where we were like why are we buying more and more for what? How many TVs does one actually need? Growing up We had one TV in our house - My parents never bought a second TV. My dad knew how to be frugal with his money. I always thought he was cheap but he retired and lived comfortably until his death. They didn’t buy anything new unless they were replacing that item.
by stopping the whole consumerism phenomenon that we got caught up in in our early 30s, we paid off all debt. We’ve been able to renovate our house by paying cash and doing it over a course of five years, instead of instant gratification-Of course this is all my God‘s blessing and provision but we learned we were being greedy and constantly desiring more and more- by changing our habits our kids, who are now grown, value their dollars earned and are wiser than we were in our spending-
WE ARE TRULY A GREEDY AND WASTEFUL SOCIETY-
Amen!!!
The world and country are going to 💩 if you can’t tell and I honestly don’t see that every changing because blue team will always win
