    This video is now (2023) four years old, but it appears Fuji has not updated or expanded MKX lineup despite seemingly greater video capabilities associated with the X-H2S camera. Also wondering if equivalent cine lenses will be available soon for GF mount given 100S video capabilities (4K at up to 30p).

    As I am getting deeply into nature and Wildlife filmmaking I am very excited these lenses. I have the 16-55 and could use the 50-135 for great footage. But there is now also th 18-120 with AF. Not on this level. But also very attractive.

      Maarten Heilbron So the question is, would you buy them yourself for creating content or are photographic lenses sufficient for your requirements? Personally, I can’t decide whether to purchase the MKX18-55 for corporate work or to use x-mount photographic lenses. I know the advantages and disadvantages of both but not sure whether clients require the quality of cine lenses.

    • @MaartenHeilbron
      @MaartenHeilbron  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Clients may not be able to understand or appreciate the difference that a cine lens makes - it is entirely up to you to judge whether the trade-offs you are making with photo lenses is worth the cost/effort. For a one-person operation like me, with limited financial resources, for as much as I'd love to own one, it doesn't make sense.

    Another excellent show, Maarten. Thank you. A bit disappointing however, that you did not get into the nitty-gritty details of the lens’ performance the way you normally do so well.
    I noticed the hdmi cable in the video and am wondering if you can tell us if that cable works well (or at all) in transporting 4K 60p video and if you could tell us the brand/vendor. I’m considering the Atomos high speed coiled hdmi cable but the $99US price tag is discouraging.

    • @MaartenHeilbron
      @MaartenHeilbron  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, I appreciate the kind words. Sorry that it was not to the level of detail you expected. I do not feel that there is any difference in quality between HDMI cables. Although the dollar store does not stock the HDMI to HDMI micro cables needed to connect this camera to the Atomos, that (and monoprice) are my regular source for cables. When I need something quickly, my local camera store (DV Shop in Toronto) also sells cables at a reasonable price.

    • @MaartenHeilbron
      @MaartenHeilbron  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree, I'm not a fan of the micro connector - it breaks too easily. Fujifilm includes an HDMI clamp in the X-H1's box, not here. I use the tethertools jerkstopper - bhpho.to/2Bpp9L7. And yes, I've had 4K 60 frame issues too. Somedays a cable will connect, other days it won't. I have several cables and just swap.

    Is it an option to use this lens as a run and gun lens? For weddings it's not always possible to use my tripod for every situation. I have the X-T4

    • @MaartenHeilbron
      @MaartenHeilbron  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MaartenHeilbron I can imagine:) Use the 16-55mm right now (and 16mm and 56mm), but want to make more quality products with the XT4. Love this! To me, it seems like the quality of the image changed for the better when you switched from XF16-55 to the MKX. Would you agree? Or is it my placebo effect? Lol.
    I imagined purchasing a cinema camera close to this price - but then I’d need more accessories.
    The other option is to keep my X-h1 - and get this lens. Thoughts?

    • @MaartenHeilbron
      @MaartenHeilbron  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks, always nice to know viewers appreciate my content. It is a better lens, price usually reflects quality, but I'm sure it's enhanced by the placebo effect. Video production is a slippery slope, not sure what your clients are asking for, or what your standards are - so can't really recommend.

    •  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Maarten Heilbron thank you! I am actually moving away from paid client work in terms of video and pursuing actual filmmaking as an art. Seems this lens may fit the bill but not sure if $4k outweighs the 16-55 I have for that purpose (just yet as I have never used cinema lens.)

    • @MaartenHeilbron
      @MaartenHeilbron  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @ I'd concentrate on lighting technique for the moment. The X-H1 with the 16-55 is a very nice combination that's quite capable of cinematic results - as long as you don't need to zoom.

    • @laughingboy-tk6ut
      @laughingboy-tk6ut 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      sweet, so obviously you're happy with the 7" size - a review specifically in relation to a small camera setup might be a unique angle as you could have got the 5" ninja but didn't - would love you to elaborate on the thoughts behind that decision

    • @MaartenHeilbron
      @MaartenHeilbron  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, that's a size that works for me. The primary reason to choose this one was the ability to do DCI 4K at 60 frames, that felt that some good future proofing for me. I should say that my primary use of any HDMI recorder is to capture the screens that I use in the videos. That said, I do find it useful for other video production as well, particularly as the 7" size provides a better view for focus.

    • @laughingboy-tk6ut
      @laughingboy-tk6ut 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      cheers for the reply - pretty sure the new 5" ninja v does 4k 60fps as well - but like you said, the bigger the better as far as focus goes - i just thought it might just feel a bit unruly atop a small dslr however it sounds like you don't have any problems with the 7" size

      An anamorphic lens distorts the image (usually side to side compression) when it is recorded, so that it can the stretched to a wider width than the aspect of the film/sensor used to capture the image.
