What are you most excited about for Arbuckle's offense?

We won't be running the ball straight up the middle even when it fails or running jet sweeps that don't work.

I’m most excited about Coach Arbuckles ability/willingness to adapt his offense to his players strengths. I think his background as a QB will only help OUs QB1 next season.

Opening up the offense will be big…..but I really don’t know what kind of offense OU would have had with a healthy team that was a huge part of the problem

Injuries were extreme at OU this year with all their starting four and five star receivers, their offensive linemen, a few defensive players, a couple of running backs and their tight end hurt. However, Arnold was not hurt and OU still had Hester an experienced receiver who runs a 4.4, Brennan Thompson who runs a 4.3 and Jaques Pettiway a 4 star speedster, and some other 4 star freshmen receivers. Oklahoma simply refused to throw the football as a purposeful strategy. They did it to themselves. We all watched the games. Almost every pass play, Oklahoma had people open and both Arnold and Hawkins would not throw the football. That means it was coached into both players not to throw the football. Oklahoma chose to lose deliberately rather than throw the football, this despite the stats showing that they would have completed almost 2/3 of those passes and thrown for 4 times more TDs than interceptions. With those stats I would have thrown it 30 plus times per game and taken shots down field. That is me. That however is not what occurred. And this is why Oklahoma lost six games, that along with 14 fumbles, 12 of which I believe occurred in those losses. The football gods dictated that the Sooners lose six games this year and Oklahoma obliged them. Somewhere in a parallel universe, Oklahoma threw the ball downfield, scored many more touchdowns and, with that defense, they won a national championship.

It makes me hopeful to think we have an offensive mind that can scheme receivers open again. Hopefully the receiver room is injury free next year and maybe Mateer is in the crimson and cream throwing the ball downfield to Nic Anderson.

Oklahoma hasn’t had a good qb coach since Grundy resigned. Gabriel was seasoned when he got here. Its sounds like arbuckle is very good at this. Throwing guys open, when and how the back shoulder, how to throw safely without interceptions and design plays for easy completions. I miss Gundy, he had multiple OC’s but qb always got better. One year we won the b12 with a wide out convert to QB.

You talking about Paul Thompson? He converted from QB to WR after Rhett Bomar beat him for the job in 2005 then moved back to QB after Bomar was kicked off the team prior to the 2006 season. He was a decent receiver in 05 and as QB took us to the Fiesta Bowl in 06.
