This is extremely sad. A lot of injustice has been done (and still is being done) to the native Indians of Americas. Living in Canada, I know it. May God Bless you all! - your friend.
At the end of Geronimo life, which is worthwhile reading according to the encyopledia he embraces christianity. It's touching, emotional and make us think is civilisation has done to him and other nation around the world. Everyone of us crave for freedom but freedom also has a price to pay. A indeed worth to watch movie and learn from it.
Actually...I am inclined to disagree. They were loyal, yes. But-They were loyal to a deceitful power! That same deceitful power turned on them, when they had no further use for them. Also:These "Scouts" were Chiracaua Apache. Yet, in search of an easier way of life, they turned their own people in! I call it:"Traitors, getting what they deserved"! If they hadn't betrayed their own people, that would've never happened to them!
Chato was a good man. He did what were his responsibilities and what he thought would turn out to be the best for his people. He couldn't have known that all they told him were lies. The whole story about Chato, Geronimo, the Chiricahua as well as the Western Apache is much more complex than this (or any) movie can show. I've been studying Chiricahua/Western Apache history and culture for years now, they're a fascinating people. My uncle's (husband of my mom's sis) family is partly Apache :)
CHATTO is a snake. GERONIMO . On a day I will return, recoverd and with powers. A few years ago I was for two days in the white mountain reservation. Three girls saw me.
Music for the movie is credited to( Ry Cooder) but does anyone know who is singing that deeply mournful song in the background starting at 6:30 until the end???
@DJTech1982 Great...we agree. Most imperial powers, including Meso-American, were assimilating powers, not genocidal. However, the Spanish/Mexican and United States imperial conquest s of the Americas was genocidal. Glad we could agree on that one.
While it was a tragedy what happened to the Native Americans, it's not the first time this has happened. Civilizations rise and fall all the time throughout history. The strongest of the species survives. The fact of the matter is that the natives were not strong enough to hold off the white eye. Their civilization was obsolete and doomed the moment the first Europeans settled on the land. In time, the US would fall too.
youtube is owned by google. and google is an american founded and based in america but it is an international company. the majority of the money that google makes is from advertising from foreign company's aimed at their own users in their country to use youtube. when i click to watch this video an advert was played for australian consumers. most of the videos are uploaded by the public. if there is no english version then that is the english speaking public's fault not youtube.
I like how the army takes the guns and the one native scout didn't wanna up his rifle. They were used, without the division of native people and disease the white man was no contest for real hunters. The old natives are the equivalent of modern day special forces like Delta squad and SAS, and don't think that those killer instincts aren't present in us natives today.
i have a question for english and american people on youtube. i have seen a great apache movie on an englisch channel i think it was 10 years ago and i remeber only the scene when the apache indians fight against the mexicans on water all of them have white clothes and later thej fight against american army at begining of the movie there is an odl apache who spekas about rhis story this is all i remeber can somebody please help me to find this movie here thank you very much and sry for my engl.
Hello i PROMISE you im not lieing Geronimo was my great great grandfather he is my grandfathers grandfather He died because he was captured by cowboy THEY DID NOT KILL HIM he refused to eat and he staved he didnt record his daughter and my grandfather died and so did Geronimo.R.I.P Geronimo and papa Joe :)
Chato should've never sold his people out like that! Never! He unknowingly became a tool in the hands of the White-eyes, but, after helping the White-eyes to accomplish their selfish purpose, was betrayed by the White-eye "Government." He became a traitor to his own people, and I can only imagine, that at least some of them never forgave him for his traitorous actions. His confession was honest...but he had crossed a line, that he regretted crossing, for the rest of his life.
@DJTech1982 Yes native americans did assimilate other smaller tribes I never said or implied that they didn't do that. I also did not claim it was complete genocide I said it started as genocide but turned into assimilation but by then a lot of tribes had already been wiped out way more than the native americans ever did with their wars. As for disease well, the idea for diseased blankets came from somewhere so maybe they did who really knows.
i read how the white men killed mangas and it was very sad he wasn't very warlike it hurts me to see the success of the white man's colonization so many innocent lives taken
My people the "Inde" are still here and continue to speak our native tongue. Aye Chihuahua! Cuantos Apaches!!! Brown and Red. Deey'a ligai Haskiiyii!! Stole Lands, USA Gokhlayeh last stand was not that long ago... Our Spirit speaks and we will never die.
@earl130 i'm an apache. oh wow... i just get so furious at the insolence. check out the fact that skull and bones kiss geronimo's skull in their initiation rights. true stuff. the white man's still being insolent to this brave hero! long live geronimo and curses to all the lips that kiss his sacred head in disrespect!
I like the part where Geronimo rolls on a group of white guys and one guy is pleading for there lives then some guy pushes him out of the way and starts talking shit to Geronimo. Geronimo opens fire and lets the Brave white dude live, kills all the other people including the man pleading for their lives.
@bunny5b5 Nope. The true natives do not think this way. If you are saying whitey that is at the top at this moment that is another thing. But to say all? No that is not a true natives thoughts.
I agree and let see put obahhh mas face on all counterfiet 50$ or yet 100$ hmmm "Nah " he isn't worth that, not even these new copper coated penny's the federal reeezerv has been circulating to depleat this nation of the worth of a real penny so when the stock market crashes they will be sitting high on the hog on all the real money gold, silver, copper platinum, when we all squander around they'll be laffing wel atleast this crappy cash now will atleast a mean fire!!
@clane281 So wait, you're saying that BEFORE the arrival of the Europeans there was NO war between the various tribes? Since the dawn of humans, there has always been war. Yes, there was peace, but there was also war. I know more than you think, and know more than you.
I really liked this movie. However, I have never understood why this is anything new... History is full of stronger civilizations conquering "weaker" civilizations. Weaker just means that they are unable to adapt to survive. Their lifestyle of hunting, gathering, and raiding is obsolete. I'm willing to bet even the Apache devoured other tribes and assimilated people. It is/was the order of things. But not to worry, the US will one day become obsolete. Every civilization eventually does..
I'm an Apache and I heard a lot of awesome stories about him that was pass down from the elders... True warrior...
Respekt you
Dagote she George conze.hante conze?
Geronimo was a truly great warrior !
Awsome performance by Wes Studi as Geronimo in this superb film.
Still a classic 30 years later
This is extremely sad. A lot of injustice has been done (and still is being done) to the native Indians of Americas. Living in Canada, I know it. May God Bless you all!

Today civilization are often relate to the struggle of Gerinomo against many enemy of humanity.
the scouts where completerly loyal and betrayed for nothing
Actually...I am inclined to disagree. They were loyal, yes. But-They were loyal to a deceitful power! That same deceitful power turned on them, when they had no further use for them.

I call it:"Traitors, getting what they deserved"! If they hadn't betrayed their own people, that would've never happened to them!
My dad played in movie as an extra one part he is in is when they are taking away the rifles from the apaches.
Chato was a good man. He did what were his responsibilities and what he thought would turn out to be the best for his people. He couldn't have known that all they told him were lies. @earl130 I'm not Apache...but I'm Athabaskan Indian from Alaska. And we are related to the Apache and Navajo.

CHATTO is a snake. GERONIMO . On a day I will return, recoverd and with powers. A few years ago I was for two days in the white mountain reservation. Three girls saw me.

@rodzmen1 I absolutely agree. True native would never talk this way.
despite their premise, the federal government never let geronimo return home...........
WOOOOOOW that's fucked up.
Music for the movie is credited to( Ry Cooder) but does anyone know who is singing that deeply mournful song in the background starting at 6:30 until the end???
Teddy Roosevelt know Geronimo and Apache story, and he said "I would do the same thing than Apache"
@bunny5b5 I love Native brothers, much love from Egypt one day u will have ur rights!!
For the comment you share, please find in out yourself after all we all in the life journey to discover our true worth..in reflection of eternity.

@SCEPCOP ...netflix.....top notch flic....matt damon and jason patric
our time is over............
@DJTech1982 That's an interesting rationalization. Analogous to saying a person killed by a drunk driver died of heavy metal toxicity.
What is the name of the music at the ending? It Is Beautiful
I always mistook Apaches with Navajos and vise-versa .
I lived in Turkey Creek.
I think we should name a newly built US Navy Aircraft Carrier after Geronimo. Seriously. No,... I mean it. USS Geronimo.
What Is the name of the song at the ens of this clip or who is the artist ?? i realy like that music
i have a question for english and american people on youtube. i have seen a great apache movie on an englisch channel i think it was 10 years ago and i remeber only the scene when the apache indians fight against the mexicans on water all of them have white clothes and later thej fight against american army at begining of the movie there is an odl apache who spekas about rhis story this is all i remeber can somebody please help me to find this movie here thank you very much and sry for my engl.
@earl130
I can say that I am proud and honored to have Geronimo blood running thru my veins.. =P
Hello i PROMISE you im not lieing Geronimo was my great great grandfather
he is my grandfathers grandfather He died because he was captured by cowboy THEY DID NOT KILL HIM he refused to eat and he staved he didnt record his daughter and my grandfather died and so did Geronimo.R.I.P Geronimo and papa Joe :)
Why can't we.....
Sad how Geronimo has been misused and exploited for political and social purposes. He was what he was and no more.
Chato should've never sold his people out like that! Never! He unknowingly became a tool in the hands of the White-eyes, but, after helping the White-eyes to accomplish their selfish purpose, was betrayed by the White-eye "Government."

@lmollot
you're on point brother!
Way oh Ay
Geronimo fue nacido en Mexico
do you by chance have english subtitles for the other parts where the Apaches were speaking to each other?
Hell yes
The thought of the heritage lost during the extermination of the indians is very saddening.
@bunny5b5 True native would never talk this way.
@uncleruckus714 completly agree...
lol why not...
American the Apache island . I like it the film. Viva apache indians.
@DJTech1982 Yes native americans did assimilate other smaller tribes I never said or implied that they didn't do that. It seems to me then that you do not fallow the news. Anyone who fallows the news would not write that.
@uncleruckus714 NOW that is some real ass shit right there!!!
i read how the white men killed mangas and it was very sad he wasn't very warlike it hurts me to see the success of the white man's colonization so many innocent lives taken

@kosolo1988 THANK YOU! TELL IT LIKE IT IS MAN TELL IT LIKE IT IS!!!
Yeah, at least the Apache were honest. They always murdered and pillaged. It was an open part of thier culture. Much like the ancient Europeans.
lol damn typos. the "t" and the "F" are so close togethor.
I meant "troll". And are your a lemming? o_0
What did Andrew Jackson do? can you answer me that huh?
@earl130 how do you know?
@bunny5b5 Nope. The true natives do not think this way. If you are saying whitey that is at the top at this moment that is another thing. But to say all? No that is not a true natives thoughts.
Xcellent movie but: He killed enough innocent settlers
lol follow i meant.
