I’ve learnt so much from you over the years and my skills and finish have massively improved. Looking forward to part 2, although I already know the end result will be top drawer.
Brilliant as usual - and such neat and tidy work too! I'm going to be fixing a hairline crack in my ceiling soon so I'm going to follow you're example and open the crack up to take the filler. There seem to be so many fillers on the market- powder, pre-mixed, fine surface, deep crack, quick drying, big brands, own brands that it's a bit of a nightmare choosing the correct one. I'll probably buy a tube of one of the big brand pre mixed fillers unless you recommend something else? Keep up the great work and really useful videos!!
Nice tidy thorough work! Another additional precaution would be to use cornice adhesive(plaster with an adhesive in it), push it in behind the cornice/moulding before pinning it back. I also screw up through the cornice into the ceiling joists, and can do the same for the walls if it’s a timber frame house, a bit more effort on brick. The foam is a nice easy way thought to fill and hold everything together.
Thanks for this, maybe i can make mine look better with what you have said. That being said i have many cracks that just seem to re-appear in some areas.
Thanks. I appreciate your attention to detail. Learning DIY in a new home, so trying to genuinely understand. Anyone- pls help. Why doesn't the gap filler that's added into those holes you've created not pushing the coves out more? Am I also mistaken in thinking a gap filler is not 'glue'- so why would it strengthen the bond between the wall and cove? Thank you

Interesting video. I am plagued with the coving cracking away from the wall in my bedroom. The wall was originally the outer wall (brick) of part of an extension and became the inner wall of our bedroom so was plastered over. Periodically the bottom edge of the coving has gaps in the bedroom but not the other side of the wall. Amy clues as to why this should happen as it's a real pain to have to keep filling in, especially over the wardrobe (not good for an 82 year old)
@@PaintingandDecorating Thanks for the reply. Making attempt to fix the issue but having trouble getting adhesive inside the gap most seems on the outside like a seal. From your experience which is the best adhesive filler to use? I assume the expanding form is used to improve the adhesion, not seen that done before.
I’m just re-wiring my house and doing a lot of work on it. The coving in my house isn’t the prettiest. Would you ever recommend changing coving to a new one rather than repairing? I’m trying to work out if I should be trying to fix it or change it all. Thank you
Even worse when they've literally just left the room as in normal use , ornaments etc everywhere . Glad i don't do domestics any more , right pain in the arse.
Difficult every customer is different most try to remove everything.. some houses are small so no where to put things.. I have literally painted around people in small houses... it can be testing at times you can only walk around the room to get to the other corner.
Fair play to your work ethics but moving a wardrobe is not your job imo.Unless They are paying for it ,I bet it was full aswell. I don't move wardrobe unless they are empty and they sign a disclaimer . I had a old mfi wardrobe collapsed on me once and it cost me.

I have fixed a part of living room coving by using your method. It worked very well. Thank you so much for sharing ideas and knowledge.

Hi there ,
What filler were you using and the filler won't crack after a while beetwen the ceiling and cove?

Thanks... ready mixed can be handy but if you have a lot to do then mix your own..
Considering the state of that coving its looking good, many thanks👍👍
Thank you.
that's what I call a proper fixings.
When I heard the water I thought someone was having a wee… yes painters dream indeed with on suite toilet.. great video again 👍
Thank you.
Cracking work as usual! No pun intended 😃 can’t wait to see the finished article 👍🏻
Thanks

Only the required amount of foam and it does act like glue. Multipurpose.. thanks

I just keep learning from you..thanks as always !!

Sounds like one side is not fitted correct maybe not enough adhesive. Follow the video and it will be fine.. thanks

Perfect !! Great Tradesman !!
Thank you.
Looks good. Just curious, why don’t you nail the trim back to the wall or ceiling?
Better to do it this way will last longer.. thanks
What filler are you using
Could you use a hard stop here? I’m guessing you don’t bother when you are going to prime anyway?
No need at this point as Jo paint has been applied yet. Hard stop is usually only used after the first coat of paint for fine filling. Thanks

That really depends how rough it looks.
Replacing like for like won't really change the look, unless it's badly fitted. Thanks
Is that an expanding foam adhesive you are using?
Gap filling expanding foam. Thanks
Yes it is, be no point using it otherwise. Soudal Genius Gun Gap.👍
Nice job mate, what is the name of that filler that you used??
Nice job. I want to buy some dust sheets ideally with a plastic layer to stop paint. Can you recommend some and where to buy? Many thanks
Can I ask what anti.mould you used to wipe it down?
Thanks 👍
Used some Zinsser mould wash.. and anti mould liquid in paint. Thanks
Solid as a rock now mate 👍
Thanks
great vid , what filler you using ? Colour looks almost like a putty ..
Every post is a "Gem" cheers.
Thank you.
Question will the joint 🤔 not re crack as mine did later on any ideas
Practice, number of reasons it could re-crack. But difficult to know without seeing it myself, and the total method you used. thanks
Do you dampen the hole with PVA water mix before adding foam
Won't the filler crack when coving moves...isn't the job of the caulk to accommodate movement of the 2 different materials?
Thanks
Your coving should not move if it is something is wrong. thanks
great vid.. thanks... ,my room is almost identical ...
I would have used caulk on the bigger cracks, fine surface filler on hairline cracks. And the adhesive foam of course to stick the coving back on.
Love going into a home when ever thing is move out of the way for the painter 💡💡
o the painter will move it as usual

Any follow up video?
Spatulas from IKEA the best for filling coving trust me… very flexible
question why don't you use a foam gun great video tho looking forward to the next one
Unfortunately you'll never permanently stop cracking only a stop gap
I was so confused when I saw the title because I read it as "Cracks around Covid," 😂
Yep.. thought that on the thumb nail.. thanks
Why has it cracked so much though?
It would be quicker to take the coving down and refix new
Not have been cheaper to buy a new pack of coving?
Throw in the price of your materials and time?
More work really... you have to remove old cut new replace and fill. Thanks

Fair enough.
Looking forward to the finished job.
Why has this happened?
Walls not scratched to take adhesive may be wrong adhesive as well. Thanks
