    IMO the Henson AL13 Medium is the best razor to get started with. The precision build quality is unmatched and the blade is set to such an angle that it cuts perfectly without any razor burn or irritation. it’s also the only razor I’ve ever used that almost never cuts or nicks my face. It is the most user-friendly razor you’ll ever try.

      @@GregTardif If you do, make sure you order it directly from the Henson website because they have a version 2 out now, some of the other retailers still have the old version which is still great but not as good and The new version adds great features like beveled edges & full length lather rinsing channels, among other nice improvements.

    I started de-shaving with a Wilkinson sword razor and blade. It was a horrible experience because I used a little too much pressure the first time around with it. However, I switched to the Rockwell razor system and had a much better experience shaving. Now I am really getting into shave stick soap because it is very easy to use and lather.

    I'm going to mention the Rockwell R1 which is $15 and the Van Der Hagan 85mm TTO razor which is $15. Both come with horrible blades, but the razors are mild and solid shavers. I have both and they're basically easy as hell to learn on. Also the Van Der Hagan shaving soap is very affordable and works extremely well! Definitely give em a try.

    • @GregTardif
      @GregTardif  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Robert! I’ve seen the R1 in a few starter kits. I’ve had a van der hagen tto that I got at a pharmacy. Didn’t care for it at all though. Maybe it was a different one

      @@GregTardif the Van Der Hagan is really mild. I don't use mine anymore either, but for what it is it's a good starter. The Rockwell R1 however is better made, more aggressive and has a wider handle. Plus a little more heft to it. I still use mine from time to time.

  • @steveboyd3455
    @steveboyd3455 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Some good options Greg! I'd recommend a Razorock 'Gamechanger .68' as a nice, inexpensive but sturdy stainless steel DE that is also not particularly aggressive. I find that it is logical to focus on the hardware but the preparation process, and the soap and lather production, are also key things for new shavers to learn about. One thing at a time, I know! Your suggestion about trying a variety pack of blades also a good thought as all of our faces do seem to be different. Thanks!

    The best for entering wet shaving, IMO the Henson AL13 mild or medium without a doubt. The New Enhanced Edition AL13 razor is probably the smoothest shaver you will ever have with the Leaf Twig a close second. As smooth as the AL13 is, it is quite efficient. I also recommend the AL13 for daily shavers and head shavers. The AL13 is a very unique shave, and try it with Astra greens or Astra Blues, Oh My God !

    Good job though with the video, thanks.

  • @thwh77

    Damn, this Leaf thing is so shiny.😍
    I would add the Wilkinson Sword Classic Vintage Edition to the list. It's still available as a gift set including a brush (synthetic, okay), soap (a little sensitive to the right amount of water) and a pack of blades, of course.
    But...
    If I knew back in the days gone by when people were worried about the year 2k bug killing every computer around the world what I know today I just would have bought the Merkur 37C respectively the vintage model and could have shaved on happily ever after.
    I really don't get what people are talking about the "aggressiveness" of slant bar razors. For me this type of razor (no matter if Parker, Merkur or Fatip) let's intuitively find your hand the right angle (always the top cap slightly touching your skin).
    For beginners I'd recommend to tame the potential of the slant bar by useing a harmless blade like the *Treet Carbon Steel* before one unleashes the power of smoothness with a *Gillette Platinum* _(darn sharp, pretty silky and charmingly unforgiving)_ or even the legendary Feather _(remorselessly acute, untellingly smooth and mercilessly efficient)_ .
    The path to the closest shave on earth is not a gauntlet.
    “And those who were seen dancing the slant bar were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the blade singing.”
    Friedrich Nietsche, German philosopher
    (Since this is still the internet: yes, I changed the quote slightly.)
    Damn, that sunday morning coffee was strong. I should get some fresh air or something.

      @@GregTardif With what kind of razor?
      From my expierience the TCR tends to feel scratchy in razors with bulky top caps and mid to high blade exposition that allow a little more play with the angle because it's not sharp enough to cut immedeatly.

      I would have done just fine with the 2c over the 6s or c. Wish they made a 2S

    Why no sixes?

      Maybe the 6c but for a beginner I think there might be too big of a learning curve for those razors. These here are plug and play solutions for effective shaves

    What is wet shaving??? Is bath only???
    Doesn't a gel classifies as "wet"???
    Im new ya 😂

      Good question! Sometimes called traditional wet shaving or old school shaving. Typically using classic style shave gear. Soap you lather with water, safety razor, brush to build the lather. It's fun but can get expensive

      @@GregTardif whats the biggest difference??? Price wise
      Isn't it supposed to me cheaper long term??? Only the shaver and razor change right???
      Or do i need to change gel for lather??? Or can i use both??? (separately)

      Shoot. I’m sorry. Was it too loud or just terrible music?

      I couldn’t really pay attention to what you were saying. In a tutorial such as yours background music adds nothing. I bail on any video with it. Best
