    I made a comment here when I just bought mine, so here’s an update!
    It’s done 3,500 kms now so it’s well and truly run in. That engine is amazing, so smooth and it’s got bags of torque from 2000 rpm, it’s a very rideable as a “real world” bike, but it’s still got all the power I’ll ever need. I haven’t had it past 180 km/h yet but it seems to get there in no time when I really wrap it on.
    The seat’s settled in and it’s a lot more comfortable now than when I bought it.
    The throttle is a bit twitchy but I’ve more or less got used to it, especially after I adjusted the throttle cables to almost zero backlash.
    I’ve fitted heated grips, the centre stand and the chrome passenger rail, all Kawasaki options.
    The handling is great, as are the ABS brakes.. It makes my Harley 1200 Sportster that I’ve owned for 20 years look like a tractor.
    As far as I know we only get the Jaffa color in Australia, I haven’t seen any other colors yet and there’s plenty of people buying them.
    I highly recommend this bike, if you get one there’s no way you’ll regret it!

      What made you decide on the RS vs the original Z900?

    • @gm16v149
      @gm16v149 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      What do you mean by the original Z900, the 1970s bike or the 2018 Z900 sport bike?

    • @dwnforcemedia
      @dwnforcemedia 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      gm16v149 my bad, I meant the current z900 base model with the anime fairings. It's cheaper with similar components and characteristics. How did you make your decision?

    • @gm16v149
      @gm16v149 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      The looks of the bike! I don’t much like the looks of the Z900 and bikes similar to it, but the Z900RS in my eyes is perfect. Also it is more comfortable. The build quality of the bike is better as well when you compare the two closely. It’s got traction control and radial brakes which the Z900 doesn’t have. The Z900RS is more comparable to the BMW R9T or Thruxton which are of similar price, but who looks at the price too closely when you see a bike you really like?

    Another proof that the late 70’s and 80’s are the golden age of M/C where skills of the riders was the determining factor on how good a rider you are.

    I bought mine 3 days ago and so far I’ve put up 800 kms on it around the hilly, quiet, winding roads within 100 kms of Melbourne, Australia in some perfect 27 degC weather. Everything you say is true about the bike. I think this is the best bike I’ve ever bought, and I’ve owned a few. I love the smoothness, the torquey engine, the handling, the way it feels so light, the excellent mirrors, and of course the looks.
    I bought the orange and brown one, the one everyone wants. The only complaint I’ve got is that the seat feels a bit hard, but hopefully that will wear in after a while, otherwise I’ll have to do something about it.
    I bought the last one in Melbourne before the next shipment, which is apparently just about all pre-sold.
    As for heated grips, you can get genuine Kawasaki ones for this bike for $400 which is a bit dear, but anyway mine are coming next week because winter is coming here and it does get cold.

      I did a couple of road trips on mine around Sydney towards central coast (lovely windy roads) and I must say it is a spectacular bike. The seat is good but i got a bit of fried bum in my Kevlar jeans on a 30 degree day. But I guess that’s normal.
      Love the engine, still waiting to hit the clear zone after 1600km so I can go a bit beyond 6k rpm.
      @themissendenflyer my partner bought a Panigale 959: what a bike. Like beautiful but uncomfortable high heels. They look spectacular but are a pain to walk in. But when you ride it you just feel alive, it’s amazing. But back on the Z900rs you realise what comfort is :)

  • @entropede
    @entropede 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I did a test ride with this bike yesterday and completely fell in love with it. The retro look is really deceptive: it rides and handles like a top modern streetfighter and eats up curves like nothing. I was especially impressed with the suspension and the front brakes, very confidence-inspiring. I agree with TMF about the mirrors, they offer the best view of any mirrors I've seen because they are slightly convex, meaning that you get a bit of a fish-eye view which is great. Only issue is that they are quite far out over the handlebars which makes splitting lanes a bit trickier, something to keep in mind.

    Got my black metallic Z900 RS last Saturday as I upgraded from a Kawasaki Vulcan S...I am in heaven...thoroughly modern take on UJM and Kawasaki has knocked it out of the park... I cannot think of a single upgrade, save braided brakelines, that this bike will need...I am 60 years old and can safely say this will be my one and only bike until I am too old to ride...many happy days ahead...ride safe & look through your turns...Mike from San Diego

      36 here and i really dislike most modern bikes design wise, its like they cannot find a standpoint and just looks futuristic in a weird way, quickly loosing their "modern" look. This is a bike that looks like a bike and not some weird transformer jet ski, great classic looks, modern components, quality finish and it actually has pillion seat that can be used for a pillion.

      @scotteger6271 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    • @Ritalie
      @Ritalie 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When I saw this bike, it was a breath of fresh air. The modern "transformer look" motorcycles are about as beautiful as dog vomit. I feel like the motorcycle companies don't actually have any Humans working for them. Litearlly. I think aliens are designing these new POS SPACECRAFT looking motorcycles that have zero symmetry or beauty to them. My 2002 ZX-6R Ninja was the most beautiful sportbike ever produced, other than the Ducati 916 and 999, early R6 and R1 Yamaha's, and the early TL1000.

    The builders in Japan have perfected this beauty and I thank God some new riders will learn to enjoy sitting up like a king on their new retro. Look forward to the 2019 version. The single pipe is for engine tuning purposes, they're actually 2 pipes in there. Racers call it 4 into 2.

    Totally agree with lots of the comments here. This bike looks superb. So many of today's machines look like something out of Transformers - they're all too angular and fiddly and probably pretty difficult to keep clean. Yes, well done Kawasaki for making this bike, love it. Great video by the way, as normal.

This to me is absolutely beautiful, I love every single thing about it. It's just that I'm 6'2" and I fear it would be little cramped for me. 45yr old here, never took the opportunity to get a motorcycle even though I've ridden a lot of 50cc's back in my teens. My best friend just bought a Z900RS, we went to the shop together, and I just couldn't contain myself and ordered one for myself too. Kinda stilly, since I don't even have a license for it (planned to get one on may 27th). So beginning of june, a boyhood dream will come true and I'll have my proper motorcycle after a VERY long wait (kids, job, wife etc always had a reason to postpone). But not this time, in fact, when I sat on it in the shop, my wife almost "made" me buy it. "Come on hon, you've been dreaming about owning a bike for SO long now, just go with it". Gotta love her :)
    So now it's counting down for the days the driving lessons start (we are obliged to take between 9 and 12 hours of lessons before exams here in Belgium); and then hopefully pass without any issue so I can pick up my baby.

      Yep the Triumph comment made me giggle too , I just traded my 2015 T-Bird after numerous issues , (fork seals leaking at 1400km , TPS flat spot , tank stripe not central) . Yes they fixed the seals but the throttle was never perfect , and paint I'm still waiting to hear back , Never mind, I'll never by a Hinckley Triumph (or should I say Thailand) again and I'm loving my new Z900RS , it's a magic bike that's quick , stops , handles and looks cool 👍 I'll always have my T150v when I want the feel of pride to ride a real British Triumph , cheers

      Matt cc Gday Matt , yes the stripe down the centre of my T-bird as was off centre 3mm to the right (gave appearance of 6mm in total )I always thought it looked odd but when I changed the seat it showed up very badly against the stitching on new seat . You could also see the stripe wasn't central to the tank mount when I had seat off (5 month old bike and dealer didn't want to know about it) Triumph now tell me it's not a warranty issue (took 7 weeks for that reply) very poor quality and after sales support from Triumph, they've lost a loyal fan who lived and breathed Triumph , even noticed the number plate light lense fell out after about a year . I'm just pleased all my memorabilia on my garage wall is the old Meridan logo as they were the real bikes built with pride . The new ones may as well be a Chinglonsing or something with a Triumph badge on it , sorry to be so negative against Triumph but that's the experience I've had with my 1st brand new bike I've owned , cheers

    Just looked at this again, some time after it was published. You mentioned the original four exhausts, but a popular mod of the day was to put a lighter four into one pipe one ASAP. I think it needs a tail tidy, and it's all sorted. Wonderful.

    Hi TMF this bike was pointed out to me as a beauty in the showroom in Rochdale. I was looking at Yamahas and floated by with the comment that I had a Z1300 in the 1980s and never again. That bike was a beast and if dropped, well you just couldn’t lift it! So your review of this bike showing it’s lightness and flick-ability comes as a surprise. While it is comparable to the Triumph Bonnevilles in style, I would in terms of numbers and function, it's actually closer to the Street Triple. Either way, I think I'll wait for a theoretical Z650RS (which would be closer to the T100).

      Ζ650 indeed has the conventional parallel twin. Kawasaki though has a lot of inline 4 in store that they could use instead, with a displacement between 400 and 750 cc. I dont know how possible an A2 retro bike is posible at a reasonable price, but i bet it would have been a success.

    From all the big 4 japanese brands, Kawasaki nailed in the design department , its a fantastic blend of modern and yet very retro of the 70’s, my only complaint is the damn seat height. 31 inch inseam i would be on the balls of my feet but with 200kg i would be more happy flat footed with some bend on my legs. I am hoping Honda will wake up and make there cb650f similar to this but i have my doubts, instead they made this rubbish look neo cafe race, even the name sounds horrid.

    Seriously Kawasaki, stop making us choose between beauty and performance, just give us all the power.

    • @RebelRides
      @RebelRides 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Although it's 'detuned' it is arguably better suited for roll-on overtaking power where you really need it due to it's more linear midrange. Though I suppose that depends on your riding style.

    • @MissMan666
      @MissMan666 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree, they didnt have to touch the Z900 engine at all, waste of time and money, its was perfectly fine with plenty of low down grunt already. But its not that bad, this engine actually has a much wider torque band than Z900, more low down and mid range power. At least there is a few things that is actually an upgrade handling wise on the RS vs Z900, the RS has better brakes, better suspension with better adjustability and it has traction controll, the overall finish is also better than Z900.

      Should have bought a GSXS1000, it lays down 145rwhp stock. Starts making good power at 4k, has very strong mid and a serious top end that the Kwak nakeds can't match. Not quite as strong as a GSXR1000, but it is plenty of motor for a street bike. It also handles great, feels light, its very comfy and has Brembo front monoblock calipers. I love Kawi's ZX14R, but their naked bikes couldn't hold a candle to the GSX when i was shopping. Suzooks cheaper too :)

      I ended up getting the T120 black in matte grey (I pick it up on Tuesday 😍), I found the Vulcan S underpowered (and it gave me backpain), but the Z900RS looked the part! The Kawa is gorgeous, but I can’t live with the high-rev nervousness and the very on/off throttle. I prefer torque over power it turns out.

    • @karlosh2422
      @karlosh2422 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@pilotpilot81 bigger capacity (or supercharging) will always give more torque from low revs. The headline max power is always at the top of the rev range, so is often not a good indicator on how a bike gets to road legal speeds. Nice big flat torque bands from low down are much more useful.
      Of course if you want to be the next Rossi, Marquez or Hickman max power at lots of revs is important!
