Try listening to Peter Green’s solos on live Fleetwood Mac recordings (eg Live In Boston). They are absolutely stunning. Each note sends shivers up your spine.. Never mind what the polls say, in my humble opinion there just wasn’t a better electric guitarist on the planet. I think he was too gentle a soul for the music industry so we are left with a fraction of what might have been. Sadly, too many people haven’t even heard of Peter. For those of us who have, it is a privilege.
Let me quote you: "For those of us who have, it is a privilege." When I first heard Fleetwood Mac I could probably count this song amoung the first, maybe 4 or 5 songs I heard. After that I was hooked! Peter could have rode at the head of the vanguard, but it was not to be. For me it's been a life-long dedication, 'Oh, Well' ranks at the top of my favorite albums of all time.
Will never tire of hearing this beautiful music .........so lucky to have been around when it first came out. Thought it was brilliant then and it just gets better.
RIP to one of the great guitarists of all time and yet ranked only no 58 in the Billboard top 100 greatest guitarists when he should have been one of the top ten! BB King recognised him as the guitarist with the sweetest tone.
Golden music from a Golden era of great musicians. How privileged we were to have lived through this era. A great recording by the way and thanks for sharing.
I rather like this version, purist remarks below notwithstanding. There is a resonance to this piece which to me is interesting and it's different from the Peter Green original, but I suppose one might say "different strokes for different folks". Enjoyed it and thanks for posting.
Stunning music - this was the signing off record to Radio Luxemburg on 208 metres medium wave played about 4 am back in the early 1960's. I had a Vauxhall Viva SL car, midnight blue, with groundhog low profile tyres and I could leave my girl friends house (now my lovely wife of 44 years) and try and get to my home (6 miles away) before the end - never quite made - lucky there were no police around at that time in the morning as I wouldn't have a licence now!! It still haunts me.
For all the uninformed comments, it IS Peter Green playing on this version. This version was recorded around 2001 and is one of several remixes of Albatross that Peter recorded with Chris Coco, a DJ. It can be found on the Best of Peter Green’s Fleetwood Mac album/CD and also on Peter Green. The Anthology 4 CD box set.
I AM DEDICATIING THIS SONG TO MY FATHER FOR HIS BIRTHDAY TOMORROW, I HAVE STARTED HIS CELEBRATION ONE DAY EARLY SO THAT I CAN CONTINUE TO PLAY ALL OUR FAVOURITE CHILDHOOD SONGS IN HIS HONOUR. THANK YOU XXX777. HE IS 87 TOMORROW.
What a heavenly instrumantel , what a man who wrote such deeply beautiful song , never will be fogotten P G , such an out of the ordinary man ,with the wonderful soul 💚💚💚
Of all the songs and music I get inspired by, this has to be way up on top of my personal favourite list. So dreamy, spiritual and relaxing. A really don't know how to describe my feelings any better. Greetings from Italy.
WOW! This is mind-blowing. It actually sounds like a life-pulse, ocean waves crashing to shore. I can almost feel the ocean spray. Unbelievable that it's a remix. So very well done. Thanks to Chris Coco and Sacha Puttman for this remix. This is so fantastic. Thank you so much, Lewis, for finding this and uploading it! Love this instrumental by Fleetwood Mac. It proves what talented musicians they really were. Always been my favorite.
My 2¢ : The original song - so haunting and original - was a bolt out of the blue. A hard-edged blues band doing something so unabashedly beautiful, that pure ringing tone of Green's Les Paul, Fleetwood's toms and cymbals - pure magic! That said - this is a cool cover - very psychedelic.
Take it for what it is David...There's comments below about who recorded what and if it is mis-labelled and such but if you are like me and just like to listen to good music you may get something out of this sound byte as I have...have fun!...
..I am currently 44 years of age. I remember very well how 3 of my 6 uncles would play this record religiously when they got home from work or wherever they were. This is a musical masterpiece as it stands. Notice how your hear a slight mash up with the "Gypsy" chords as well...so brilliant!!!!!💞💞
I'm 55 years old and I just heard this for the first time. Rock Legends brought me here. Amazing! I guess I need to come out from under my rock more often.
My 'almost 30' yr. old son has a serious problem with insomnia. He has his own business, works VERY hard physically & mentally, but at the end of the day, even though he's exhausted, he has A LOT of trouble sleeping. I think this version of Albatross just might do the trick of relaxing him, & helping him to 'shut his brain down', so he CAN sleep!....When I close my eyes & listen...it's like I'm at the beach................LOVE IT!!
Great job!! … This song can be played on your “EastTop harmonica" in the key of “A” …. go ahead and play along with this great song. Eli: "King of Rock & Roll Harmonica".
Einfach nur Super. Peter Green würde es bestimmt gefallen und es währe ihm bestimmt egal , dass sein Albatross so nun ganz anders ist, da dieser Song für viele geschrieben wurde.
I remember hearing Albatross on K101, Houston fm radio around 1970, early about 3am. Crash Collins was the dj back then. That’s when I got into Fleetwood Mac. RIP Mr. Green & Mr. Collins.
First heard this during my first trip to Amsterdam many decades ago and still is a super super fav. Can't believe how long he worked on this before laying it down. Simple but not. If this doesn't take the day's stress away, what does. There's 1hr plus loop version out there and I put that on and do my thing. Sweet. This is close to being better than the album take.
thankyou ...that is a beautiful story ... music like this Albatross evokes a special emotion that isn`t all common in alot of music. Congrats on 40 years together :)
Thank you, Lewis. There is some music that is so beautiful it fills your entire body with emotion - this is one of those pieces. I cried when I heard Peter died. When I told an older friend who just happened to call me at the time why I was upset, a woman who I had no idea was into FM, and she also broke down. He really touched people with his playing.
There is great music being made now. Its just hard to find and it's being made under the radar. Made by young people, influenced by bands from before they were born. Radio and major record companies are becoming obsolete. I fear the old folks from 60's 70's will never get a chance to hear it.
I've said it before ".The.Real. Fleetwood Mac." Absolutley Beautifill version what a special gift. Lifes a Bitch and yet music of this Caliber lifts my heart so High I get rushes , I smile....
IT IS a wunderfull Song! Thanks for that! To hear IT IS Always a big Joy for me! IT createt a big godly Feeling and opens my Heart! I Love this Masterpice!❤️💛💚❣️
Thanx for the upload, it's sounds like an engineer/producer was whacked on something - thank god they used the other version (!), with all the carefully-arranged guitars'n'all. PG did most or all of the guitar parts himself, plus doubling up the bass part also - two basses on the well-known version.
Thanks - I was not aware of this version. The original is, of course, utterly sublime. I most enjoyed listening to this one, though. Beautiful. The effect created by the movement from a kind of psychedelic dissonace melding into that simple, divine opening riff is rather moving. Man I love that band. I know all of us have our preferred lineups. But I have come to appreciate the unique dynamics of every period. I am still so sad about Bob W.and Bob W. Wish they were here.......
I love FM in all of its forms. Its interesting reading comments from all the fans that think the Peter Green era, or the Bob welch era, or the Buckingham Nicks era's were the best. To me they were all necessary steps in a life cycle, and every change that happened, had to happen, and great but different music continued to blossom.
Nice freshening up. This version is most worthwhile, if you had any fondness for the old original. Stick with it at the shift, it climbs out of the fatal rut the old version had. Thanks Peter!
(Aimlessly drifting on your lifeboat. Your mind is fuzzy, in the air some distant melody that's slowly sharpening but never quite. Floating closer to a distant island, way-way out in some unknown ocean. Rhythm of waves rolling in on the beach, wind rustling thru the Palms with imaginary birds flying & squawking... .. . IMAGINARY?!) OH!.. WELL DANG IT, back to reality.

@@misstreebird I think the intro with this was added by them, but Fleetwood Mac did the original
top 5 easy -maybe top 3, with Jimi and Duane.
@@coelacanth9821 I put Duane and Roy Buchanan ahead of Jimi :)
Golden music from a Golden era of great musicians. How privileged we were to have lived through this era. A great recording by the way and thanks for sharing.
I played this song at my sister's funeral on the beach...so beautiful! R.I.P Peter Green...and Thank you!

Peter Green, thank you! Rip!

It is a 'life-pulse', one very smooth, quiet and healthy.

Nowhere near as good as the original, which is hauntingly magical
