    Hi! Thanks for this very useful video. I have a weird issue and not sure how to deal with it. I bought recently MacBook Pro 16 M3 Max and found that its display is too warm and a little yellowish for my preferences. And what I want is just make it look a little bit colder. Yes, I see also some very slight pink gradient somewhere near at bottom. I pretty sure most people doesn't see it at all, but on some level of brightness and some different angle it becomes kinda visible. I saw the same on other OLED phones, just a bit weird to see it on Apple devices as for me. So, the issue is that because visual tuning calibration available only on some copies of references with locked down brightness it's completely not usable for me. Yes, again, I clearly understand all that PRO stuff and why things like that, I just not understand why I can't create NON-reference profile for my day-to-day activity with white point equal to whatever preferable by my taste. It was possible on Venture easily and here I can't do anything besides using Color Filters which not the same as changing white point a bit. I just trying to figure out why it is like that. I seriously consider return this otherwise great machine back to shop. Also, I clearly see that on little than middle brightness the White is not constant, I see like it slightly variate across all display. All that completely not visible on first quick look and check. Anyone has the same issues here?

      @@HectorMArroyoThanks, but nope. TrueTone and NightShift are both off sure. I found many talks on this issue in these days and just really impressed by the fact that no one TH-cam content creator actually talks about it. People complain a lot about greenish and yellowing displays of Apple silicon MacBooks and dump idea to get rid of from display settings a way to change white point as you wish. Even Apple support guys were confused by it. Also, I actually found that it still possible to calibrate display in old way via Calibrate Assistant app which is still in system, but an issue that it doesn't preserve this setting on reboot. So you will need use other system app ColorSync to apply yours "colder" profile on each reboot. Hopefully Apple will not remove it in near OS upgrade iterations. The talks about it I found comes from 2021 year, so Apple position on it is weird - they know better with their fabric calibration what we need. But actually it far from it. Greenish, yellowish approved by independent calibration tools many times already. So, my single issue as for now is pink slight spot at the bottom, but it did become even less visible with colder profile. Not sure if I mentioned before, but I'm in Russia and position of Authorized Apple service company which are still works here actually that this is normal and Apple refuse to get back such displays. I actually confused a lot by all that, especially Apple position about dead pixels numbers and other things. I think it just very hard to buy good MacBook now, it is lottery and there are bunch of other ways to play and be entertained. Next time will consider Lenovo with Ubuntu/Arch OS support which is for me will be even may be better. For me Mac is just good Unix system.

    The PR-740 costs between 45K and 60K. I have the CR-300 and I did this process a few times. First, using a Spectro exclusively is a bizarre choice. They are great on measuring white point and primaries with accuracy, but poor in low light measurements, even those expensive ones. Ideally a combo of Spectro and colorimeter will be fast and accurate. Glad to see apple opened the process to laptop and Tyler Pruitt from Calman recently joined apple. Hopefully we will see support extending to colorimeters and more mainstream spectros. Also both CR-250 and CR-300 (CR-300 RH) have contact versions and viewfinder versions. Contact versions are a breeze to use.

      @ArtIsRight  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the info. Interestingly enough, I found out more info about the contact version after I made this video. Technically the contact version is similar to the lens bellow, the sense still sit a bit back but none the less this version is good to have. As far as other colorimeter goes, we'll see. They might but I would not hold my breath, but if that happens that would be the day!

      @@ArtIsRightart, any advice for me. After editing raw photos in Lightroom in M1 Max Mac, and exporting with a p3 color profile, the photos look a bit drab, lacking in contrast, and lacking in color compared to the raw edit. This is extremely prominent on the iPhone display. I tried using the reference mode you set in one of your videos months ago, but it didn’t seem to do anything to the low color photos.

    Great video as always, one question i have. In my BenQ270C i have saved two different calibrations (one for D50 and one for D65), so i can change which calibration to use on the screen itself. but do i need to change anything in the Display settings in Sonoma for it to be correct then ? I can see ONE calibration in Sonoma called "BenQ_270C". Should i select that one or should i see two Benq options ?

    Great video. I'm using Sonoma with a Display Pro HL on my M2 Max setting this at P3-D65. The measurement on the luminance was 167.684 and I was only able to input 167.6 or 167.7 as the range is limiting me to one character to the right of the decimal point. When I put in the target, setting it to 100, I get an orange triangle. It does not allow me to enter in 80, 90 or even 150. Please advise. Many thanks.

      The issue is that P3-D65 default is around 160 nits. You can't change that. This is the reason why you need to create a custom preset with the luminance that you want.

If I then would color grade inside Davinci Resolve- would I use the BT 1886 reference mode as a starting point, and if so, does this method correctly calibrate to a Gamma of 2.4? So I need to do a video about this but here are the cause and work around:
      Cause: overtime these MiniLED displays put them down. Because it is really a bright display and overtime they do. What you were seeing right now is the factory calibrate value not aligning with the actual lumens output of the display overtime.
      Solutions: so what you have to do for this is just simply manipulate the luminance to a higher value in the presets setting screen. For example, if you want a luminous of 80, but when you're actually doing the measurement and is only showing you 70. You've typed this in to the white point fine tune and it's going to give you a caution triangle because it is out of range. so what you simply do in this case is create a new preset and rather than setting the luminous value at 80 in the SDR box you were simply put in 90 or 95 redo the measurement and see where you end up. This is the best way to refine tuned the brightness of your display.
      Another solution would be to simply type in a value that won't give you the triangle with ! any more. The thing about this solution is that you are not going to get your display at the target luminance that you really want. Because this is simply a workaround to get fine-tune calibration to work.
      I hope this helps and it is enough if you have any follow-up questions please do so in a new comment or DM me.

      @@ArtIsRight Can you please do a calibration on video rather than photo? I think that's fair since these higher tiered tools are mode geared to things that are digital images and not so much printing. And how is it that people in the industry get away with editing without a calibrated screen? I'm really bummed bc there's a color shift from my MBP Pro 21' to my iPhone and just bought the calibrite pro. been a pain researching

      You'll never get those to match. And video would just be REC 709 or P3 like I said in the other comment, luminance is the same printing or not. Everything for the most parts are very similar

      @@ArtIsRightpls do updated video with the new layout and include video 😭😭 lol. I’m all new to do this and I followed your previous tutorial but still a color shift on iPhone. I’m gonna test if still the same on mom’s new iPhone 15 max. So technically with the photo settings from your tutorial video I can edit with accurate colors for video? Bc it was set on P3 color space right?

      You have to set this profile using ColorSync Utility and Spyder 5 is really not capable of calibrating MiniLED backlight, it does not have the EDR / Spectral data necessary for it.

      probably because you have the regular LCD rather than the miniLED

    After finish calibration by i1profiler (I have i1display pro plus), profile then assign in colorsync and I notice color change normally. But once I restart mac os it reverse to origin, but still colorsync show that those icc profile still in use, but it not. I have to reset to factory then choose icc profile then it active again. Then it revert again after restart not keep that icc profile. In another world I have to manually pick icc profile every time power on. Did you have this problem? On Sonoma?

    • @ArtIsRight
      @ArtIsRight  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'll have to test this more it is not what I observed. Technically the i1Display Plus does not have the full capability to calibrate XDR displays and that might have something to do with it as well. It is less likely but the possibility is not 0.

      @@ArtIsRight Even i1 pro plus might not that capable but from what the result picture I have test it still acceptable from what I see, however every time I restart/reboot Mac I need to manually assign profile again is quite annoying. Actually it my clients laptop that upgrade to Sonoma, not clean install and sometimes quite not right.

    • @ArtIsRight
      @ArtIsRight  ปีที่แล้ว

      acceptable and getting full gamut of the display are 2 totally different things. This is why is said in many of my previous videos that if you are going to calibrate but not able to get the full gamut and conformity, you might as well not. As far as color changes go in Sonoma, I would put in a support ticket with Calibrite, they want to track this. I can try to help you but if it is a bug in the OS, that will require Calibrite reaching out to Apple to file the bug report.

    • @prapanchulapinyo757
      @prapanchulapinyo757 ปีที่แล้ว

      I see, for the full gamut of display... However for the color change in Sonoma after reboot, do you face this problem in your testing? Maybe some other M1 laptop? Cause feel it not Calibrite problem, it's job just create icc profile which it already does. From that on, apply those icc profile it is OS that do the job. So I feel like it Apple Sonoma problem. Or maybe bug from upgrade from Ventura, not clean install. It might solve by clean install Sonoma I don't know for sure. Coz it client's laptop. So if I may ask, did you face this problem in some other Mac laptop? @@ArtIsRight

      Also those icc profile created from Calibrite is in effected after assigned or anytime I re-assigned - I can notice from the screen color- . Only that it revert back to something else -maybe factory default- after reboot. I need to re-apply icc profile in colorsync utility again after reboot. @@ArtIsRight

    • @ArtIsRight
      @ArtIsRight  ปีที่แล้ว

      Not quite true. You can calibrate it with a fixed reference mode and if you change it back to Apple Display or XDR, one of the default mode at the top then the icc profile still applies to what you are seeing. For content consumption this is fine. For serious work, it is like one shooting to a constant moving target, not ideal for pro workflow nor is it recommended but each to their own.
