The only thing I regret is I didn't have the motor in front of me to show everyone as I sold my 77 Buick prior to making this but I wanted to at least inform people.

So with your explanation of thicker head gaskets and the need for new push rods…. Are the new push rods longer? I think I’m having this problem… a lot of ticking/knocking after a complete rebuild.

Changed out my points distributor with an hei from a later 70"s & it runs great.

Great video! I'll be following your steps tomorrow when I install my DUI distributor in my '68 Jeep Commando with the Dauntlass 225 odd-fire. Instructions that came with the distributor were awful, and clearly meant for even-fire engines. Thanks!

I have a 1971 CJ5 Jeep with the Dauntless V6, the BTC is 5 degrees, should I still have the compression stroke at 0 or 5 on the timing before I set or move the distributor.

I know this video is been up a while. Hopefully you’re still monitoring it. Does it matter what direction the VA points if the piston is at TDC and the rotor is aligned to hit #1 post? If I put my VA pointed to the radiator it gets guillotined by the fan.

thank you for commenting, youtube is not notifying of comments I apologize for the late response, you should have the nose of the distributor facing pretty much at the nose of the carburetor given the illusion of the angled distributor distorting this perception, basically the way the illustration in the video shows it facing give or take a few degrees, the VA is getting guillotined because of the inaccurate size of the aftermarket VA, the original VA's were shorter and the nipple was shorter as to not intrude the clutch fan, this causes a problem because you can only face the distributor and in turn the VA in only one direction as indicated in the vid, the only thing you can do is look online for a shorter VA with a shorter nipple, the originals had the nipple on top of the VA too, not protruding out the front, find one of those at a local wrecking yard or online and you will be golden.

@@davidcarr6927 if you notice at 2:10 in the video when I'm holding the distributor that is the exact vacuum advance you want that's an original it's a little bit shorter and the nipple is on the top side facing up instead of out at the fan like the aftermarket ones.

A 77 would be an even fire

I changed mine without setting anything. Just placed it exactly the same way it came off. Didn’t start at all. Then I just set TDC and made whatever plug the rotor was facing the number one plug and arranged the plugs properly on firing order. No goddam start. Spark, no start. Pissing me the hell off
