Loved this, black holes have always been one of my favorite formations to think about. Mostly because of the allure of the mystery and danger that’s built them up to be these monsters or masters of the universe
Cosmic collisions, including the collision of black holes, can have dramatic effects on the universe. When black holes merge, they release tremendous amounts of energy in the form of gravitational waves, rippling through spacetime. This phenomenon not only influences the immediate region around the black holes but can also impact the surrounding cosmic environment. How might the study of these collisions deepen our understanding of gravitational waves and the fundamental nature of black holes?
How could we have an intelligent and answerable Cosmic Queries without Chuck? Tell me who is asking the right questions and who has the best answers so that we all understand? Yes it's Chuck!
Listening to Neil talk about the relationship between kinetic energy and Einstein’s e=mc^2 equation made me wonder, why is the Einstein equation not divided by 2? I’m taking Newtonian Physics 2 on this concept and I’m sure it will be answered but my curiosity cannot wait! My assumption would be that it has something to do with the speed of light value but don’t really know much about this. Thanks in advance for any answers or ideas!

#StarTalk Neil, do you think there may be some value to taking the same information (transposing mathematical data into an audio format, even if there's no physical way for the sound to be produced) and using it in that form to approach a physics problem from another angle? Just in terms of my own experience in problem solving, I find that when I adjust my perspective, the answer will often reveal itself. Love the show, guys.
An interesting addition would have been asteroid collision with air vs ground. For sounds in space and synesthesia, there are artists who've had cybernetic implants installed to transmute one sensory input to another.
@@seafseesfsefe872 Yep, it stirred up some controversy too. Since the neural signal is electrical in nature, they literally just had the impulses mapped into the pathway of another sensory input. I have an astrophysics based question.. is it possible to direct a solar flare towards the earth to harness the energy using magnetically charged particles?
I don’t think so. Don’t solar flares or coronal mass ejections have an EMP effect? I don’t think there is any material on Earth that could absorb and transfer that much energy without dissolving or losing charge.
You would need some immensely powerful sets of magnets to redirect all the charged particles coming from the sun. Then we would need some way to convert them into energy we could harness without destruction as the speeds are so high. Solar panels are a much easier way to capture the Sun's energy, we can build large solar arrays in space.

I've asked this question a lot of times , does gravity has a limit ? example: if the universe was empty , and lets imagine no dark energy , and 2 planets at both ends of the visible universe, does eventualy gravity between the two make them collide or not?
Imagine having a very smooth tarp with the smoothness of a stretched balloon, and you somehow suspend it so that it is levitated and perfectly flat. If you place, let's say a baseball, on one side of it, you'll notice it sink down from the baseball's weight. Take another baseball and place it at the opposite end of the tarp. It will cause the tarp to sink as well, but they will never move towards each other, unless you position the two balls on the tarp close enough to where their effect on the tarp make contact. They will eventually attract each other until, slowly moving at first, then speeding up as they get closer, until they collide and make a bigger dip in the tarp
