In this video, I give an in-depth review and my opinion of the non-branded ZU80 mini LED COB all metal bicolor light, which cost me less than 40 US dollars new!
As well as looking at the features of the ZU80, which are almost the same as the ZU60 and demonstrating the brightness and colour temperature of the light, I also look at the accessories available to fit the 6.5-centimeter mini Bowens mount.
This is the first in a series of 3 videos related to the ZU80.
This video is dedicated to the features and characteristics of the light. The other 2 videos in the series will be related to using the ZU80 for still photography in the studio and to using the ZU80 for lighting video.
I was looking for a decent review of this light (ordered it recently and only now watching review LOL), and I found you! Thank you for such a detailed review and tests!
@@PLVK_DM many thanks for you comments. Glad you found the video useful. I hope you enjoy using yours when it arrives. Stay tuned. I will be making a video shortly where I use the ZU80 to light the video itself. Take care and be safe. Andy
Thanks for the video, very helpful, I was looking for a review for this exact model
@@SleepyRainRealm many thanks for your comment. I hope you found the video useful. In the next few days I will be publishing a video using the ZU80 as a key light for portraits. Stay tuned. Take care and be safe. Andy
Andy, thanks for the great review. I just ordered a pair of these for backlights. Can you confirm you have 100% on NP? I'd also love it if you did a test using specific voltage NP to determing length/time at 100%. Very much appreciated your in depth and factual video.
@@Tim-Miller-many thanks for your comments. Glad you liked the video Tim! I can confirm that the brightness goes up to 100 percent when using NPs however it did seem a little dimmer to me than on AC. As soon as I get through creating my pending videos I will make a short video doing a time test on 100% brightness using my F970 type batteries. Stay tuned. Take care and be safe. Andy
@@Tim-Miller- hi Tim. I have just uploaded a short video with a test using 2 NP970 type batteries in the power handle with the ZU80. I hope you find it useful. Take care and be safe. Andy
@@photechvideo Andy, thanks so much for the reply. I actually just got this one in and experienced the same slightly dimmer output with the exact same batteries as you have. That being the case it's definitely not a deal breaker. One thing to note is that you absolutely have to use two batteries, it will not work with only one.
@Tim-Miller- hi Tim. My pleasure. From what you say in your comment I assume that you have watched the test that I did for you. So the slightly dimmer light on the 2 batteries was the same for you. Well at least I know that mine (I have 4) are not faulty! I hope the ZU80 does what you need it to do. Take care and be safe. Andy
Sir you like have a photography studio you couldn't get a light and color meter and mesure the CT and the light output of this thing?
@@SquadGTX99 many thanks for your comments. I hope you found the video useful. It is meant as an overview of the features of the ZU80 not as a technical test. However in the next couple of days I will be uploading a new video where I take a number of portraits using the ZU80 with no light modifier and also with several different light modifiers to demonstrate how much light it gives off in each case and calculating the number of stops which the light modifiers reduce the light output. I did not measure the colour temperature as it is changeable from 2500 to 6500 Kelvin at 100 Kelvin steps so you can decide the colour temperature for yourself. Stay tuned. Take care and be safe. Andy
@@photechvideo Thank you for taking time to make it ! looking forward, good luck and most important happy new year
@SquadGTX99 Thank you for your appreciation. I have done a colour temperature test on full brightness at 5300 Kelvin setting on the ZU80. I used an app on my smartphone so I do not know how accurate it is. At that setting the app gave me a reading of 6500 Kelvin if that helps you. I will be uploading the portrait/light modifier test video tomorrow. I hope you find it useful. Thank you for your wishes and a very Happy New Year to you and your loved ones.
bro it looks really really green tinted :( but at the price GREAT VALUE
@@Chris-fq3nr many thanks for your comments and observations. To be honest, I have not really used the ZU80 that much yet and have not paid attention to the colour shift/tint. But as you say, that brightness and those features are great value for the price. I will be uploading a video shortly in which I use the ZU80 to light the video itself to see what it can do. Stay tuned Take care and be safe. Andy
Please don't put text along the bottom of the screen. I watch with closed captions on, as I have impaired hearing. This ends up rendering both text and captions unreadable when they overlay.
@@colinmorrison5119 many thanks for your comments and suggestion. Yes, I can imagine that it can be frustrating when they are overlayed. I will certainly bear that in mind in the next video which I edit and see what the text, which I need to add, looks like in the middle of the screen. By the way, as well as TH-cam's Closed Captions, I also upload a subtitle file in English. I hope you found the video interesting and useful. Stay tuned. Take care and be safe. Andy.
@photechvideo Thanks for making the effort to do proper subtitles. TH-cam could do more to avoid overlapping.
P.S. What % is brightness capped at in fanless mode? I have a fanless key light and would like a fanless secondary.
@colinmorrison5119 my pleasure. I want all my viewers to feel comfortable watching my videos.
I believe that when turning off the fan on the ZU80 it goes down to 40 percent brightness. I will check next time I am in my studio and let you know. Speak soon. Andy
@@colinmorrison5119 hi Colin. I have just checked what the ZU80 brightness level defaults to when you deactivate the built in fan. It caps it at a maximum of 30 percent brightness. At 30% you can still use it as a rim or hair light for example. If you are worried about the fan noise, I can tell you that my Andoer LED COB studio video light fans make a lot more noise than the ZU80 fan. I hope that this is useful for you. I am just making a video where I test the ZU80 using 100% brightness at 5300 Kelvin using NP batteries to power it to see how long it will stay on for. When I edit that video I will try to add the necessary text in the centre of the screen and I will try to lower the position of the subtitles which I upload with the video. Stay tune. Take care and be safe. Andy
@@photechvideo Thanks. I'm using an RGB bulb in a small softbox for fill, and it has nowhere near the power of this. The ZU80 at 30% would be about equivalent to my current key light in a large softbox, if the 80W rating is to be believed. Good to know the fans are quiet anyway. AliExpress is tempting me with first time buyer discounts (it's been a while, Brexit ruined AliExpress for me).
