So, in regards to differences from this installment and the series we know today: - Outworld didn't exist, and the Mortal Kombat Torunament wasn't associated with merging realms. Instead, it's just a regular if bloody tournament. It seems the winner of the tournament became it's master, maybe? - Goro is [Half Human/Half Dragon] because, again, Outworld doesn't exist yet. - The origional owners of the tournament were the Shaolin monks, which Liu Kang entered the tournament to represent. Shang Tsung only took over the tournament after beating TheGreatKungLao. - Sub-Zero wasn't working for Shang Tsung, but hired to kill him. Then he retired. - Scorpion's wife and son are alive. - Raiden isn't Earthrealm's protector diety. He's just a random dick who happens to be a god.
Here's a quick run-down. Raiden: Destroys the Earth when he invites other Gods to fight in MK (which is exactly how Armageddon came about) Scorpion: Doomed to walk the Earth without being able to see his family. Sonya: Kills Kano, Shang Tsung and returns home with her team. Johnny Cage: Big movie star becomes even bigger star. Sub-Zero: Kills Shang Tsung and retires. Liu Kang: Ends Shang Tsung's reign of terror and gives MK back to the White Lotus Society. Kano: Kills Shang Tsung and takes over MK only he sucks so hard as the promoter it falls apart.

Make villains less of a jobbers in MK9, make more heroes survive, dial back Quan Chi's presence and have the game's events be more in-line with the old canon. Now, MKX and 11 - yeah, you can fix those whichever way you like, just keep Scorpion's and Sub-Zero's bromance intact.

Outworld gets a mentioned in the prequel comic by John Tobias, it was made along side the game. However, it has nothing to do with the tournament, and it was just mentioned as the place where Goro comes from.

They should've remade this game before making the current Mortal Kombat 1 game. Modernizing the first Mortal Kombat game would've been very profitable; adding a story mode, new skins and dlc characters would've had so many people reliving their childhoods! We already have footage of the actors posing for capture to the game, but we still do not have the complete videos of their presentation, those short videos that are shown when you only leave the machine without a coin.
I am starting to think I have just read the words, but applied what I knew of MK lore over it, so never actually took anything at face value. Looking at it now some of these characters, and the actual lore are so different to what we are told later. With 11 going into multiverse territory, maybe it would be easier to just say the endings are different universes. I kind of want Marvel-esque backstory movies on this version of the characters now. Try to tell me you wouldn't watch a Batman Begins Johnny Cage movie learning different martial arts to a high level with various grandmasters until some drama happens due to his ego, so he has to face the consequences of his actions, then defeat a villain of his own making, which moves him to leave the world of martial arts, and make movies about his experiences instead, in an effort to avoid making the same sort of mistakes he had before. I would watch the shit out of it. It would be great also to see a Scorpion backstory where his family lived, so he has to deal with not being in their lives, and growing into being the wraith we know and love instead of that just being instantaneous. There is a lot of really good potential here for really wonderful stuff. As and aside, it cracks me up that Kano is the only one who doesn't get applause, even though Raiden literally destroyed the world.
That's because when MK was being developed it was supposed to be a Universal Soldier game starring Van Damme. I believe then because the movie didn't do so well, Midway pulled the plug on the idea. They then wanted to make it a mash up game with characters from various movies - Cage (Bloodsport Van Damme), Raiden & Shang Sung (Big Trouble In Little China), Kano (Terminator), LIu Kang (Bruce Lee), Sub Zero/Scorpion (American Ninja). Sonya was added really late in development, just before release, because there were no female characters and they wanted one to represent females. This probably also explains why the gap in the middle of the top row of the character select screen is there, and why Sonya is broken and OP with the Leg Grab. If Sonya wasn't in the game.. the character select screen would be a perfect 6 squared rectangle with no extra box.

Raiden seemed like a bad guy in MK1... I always thought this. He never seemed like a good guy, and his ending proves that point. But as the games progressed he ended up being basically leader of the good guys. Would have been better if he stayed bad.
I think that during Mortal Kombat 1 he didn't take his responsobilties of protecting Earth seriously , which why he would've organized a tournament with the other gods which would destroy planets . In his MK Trilogy ending when he was fighting Shao Khan the entire Earth was shaking because of their immense power , even though they didn't fight , but some endings have the role of showing what characters can do .

I am starting to think I have just read the words, but applied what I knew of MK lore over it, so never actually took anything at face value. Looking at it now some of these characters, and the actual lore are so different to what we are told later. With 11 going into multiverse territory, maybe it would be easier to just say the endings are different universes. I kind of want Marvel-esque backstory movies on this version of the characters now. Try to tell me you wouldn't watch a Batman Begins Johnny Cage movie learning different martial arts to a high level with various grandmasters until some drama happens due to his ego, so he has to face the consequences of his actions, then defeat a villain of his own making, which moves him to leave the world of martial arts, and make movies about his experiences instead, in an effort to avoid making the same sort of mistakes he had before. I would watch the shit out of it. It would be great also to see a Scorpion backstory where his family lived, so he has to deal with not being in their lives, and growing into being the wraith we know and love instead of that just being instantaneous. There is a lot of really good potential here for really wonderful stuff.
As and aside, it cracks me up that Kano is the only one who doesn't get applause, even though Raiden literally destroyed the world.

That's because when MK was being developed it was supposed to be a Universal Soldier game starring Van Damme. I believe then because the movie didn't do so well, Midway pulled the plug on the idea. They then wanted to make it a mash up game with characters from various movies - Cage (Bloodsport Van Damme), Raiden & Shang Sung (Big Trouble In Little China), Kano (Terminator), LIu Kang (Bruce Lee), Sub Zero/Scorpion (American Ninja). Sonya was added really late in development, just before release, because there were no female characters and they wanted one to represent females. This probably also explains why the gap in the middle of the top row of the character select screen is there, and why Sonya is broken and OP with the Leg Grab. If Sonya wasn't in the game.. the character select screen would be a perfect 6 squared rectangle with no extra box.

Raiden seemed like a bad guy in MK1... I always thought this. He never seemed like a good guy, and his ending proves that point. But as the games progressed he ended up being basically leader of the good guys. Would have been better if he stayed bad.

I think that during Mortal Kombat 1 he didn't take his responsobilties of protecting Earth seriously , which why he would've organized a tournament with the other gods which would destroy planets .
In his MK Trilogy ending when he was fighting Shao Khan the entire Earth was shaking because of their immense power , even though they didn't fight , but some endings have the role of showing what characters can do .
