I just got this car yesterday. They are selling like hot hotcakes. There was only one dealer left with my car and they had to bring it to me. I love it so much! Major upgrade from my Jeep. Seems odd but I prefer the spark much more! The ride is so much smoother and the speakers are AWESOME! The speakers were my main concern when buying a cheap car but I was super shocked. I thought I was gonna hate this car and I ended up loving it.
Depending on which Jeep you're coming from, I can see it as being an upgrade. We're glad to hear you love yours! That's what car buying is all about, loving your car no matter what other's think!
I just bought my 2019 Chevy Spark LS in April and I love it. I'm not as big or tall as you so I fit in it perfectly. I have also seen many more on the road since I bought mine. You kept saying it's a beginner car but your wrong about that. It's meant to save on gas and still go just like normal sized cars. At my age and owning and driving all kinds of cars, I gotta say, the Spark is fast becoming my favorite.
We are thinking about downsizing one of our suvs to save on insurance and gas. I think the spark is so cute without being silly looking. But I’m torn for sure
98 HP for that thing is a lot. I can remember when most full size cars had about 100 hp back in the day. We had a 1975 Mercedes Diesel 300 that weighed about 3400 lbs and produced 114 HP. It went from 0-60 in about 20 seconds. That was plenty fast enough for everyday driving. The first generation Honda Civics had 52 HP. The first generation Toyota Tercel had 60 HP. Hell, even the mid '70s Corvette stingray produced only 165 HP. People today are spoiled. They don't know what is needed and what is just numbers they have gotten used to seeing.
Somehow managed to snag a 2018 1LT for around 9 grand brand new! Apparently they wanted them off the lot for the 2019's coming in. Absolute great car for that price especially with the 3 year bumper to bumper warranty and 5 year on the engine and transmission. So if you can find a good deal its actually a really great car! But loading it up with leather for 20K is definitely a bad purchase, better off getting a used car. Although i cant say i wouldnt want leather and heated seats, but not for that much extra. Anyways got 14,000km on it and so far holding up nice!
Hey Prism! I just got my Spark 2021 2LT yesterday in the purple color :)) it was only 16k and I’m lovinggg it. Bc it’s almost summer, I don’t really have need for the heated seats yet. But the leather interior is really nice and I love all the upgrades it has.
4K resolution on this video. wow loved it on my LG G7. I hope one day your amazing videos will be uploaded to 4K@60FPS. They look even more crazy on my underrated beast. That'll even be more relaxing experience watching your videos. Thanks, Sir
I'm glad you liked the resolution! We've filmed maybe half a dozen 4K episodes over the past 15 months, unfortunately our main production camera only does 1080p, and 4K footage taxes our editing rig significantly. I'd love to make the jump to it permanently, but even a better 1080p camera at this time is out of our budget.
I love my Spark. Owned it for almost 2 years now. The CVT definitely slows the car down in the low range but very peppy beyond 40mph. I think there's some computer efficiency work intentionally forcing the car not to rev high when pushing the throttle initially. Unlike in Canada, the Spark doesn't sell at all here, so I was able to score it for like 35% off MSRP (under 10k OTD for base CVT which does have windy windows). Keep in mind though that the max weight recommended is about 670lbs, so definitely not a car for someone who is heavy and wants to have passengers. Have a few friends who weigh more than 300lbs and definitely could notice the car's suspension not handling that weight well (close to 900lbs altogether). Usually I drive slow over good roads whenever I hang out with them to not screw up the shocks. BTW how tall are you? I'm 6'2" and I am nowhere near hitting the roof of mine. My BFF is 6'5" and also doesn't have any issues.
ours here in new Zealand are branded as holdens, mine has 7000km's on it now(2020 lt). i check gas use every fill, and can say with my rural and city driving, i average 5.9 liters / 100 kms(40 mpg us or 48 mpg uk). I love it, and use it as my preferred car, even though i have a 2020 astra rsv , and a nissan ute etc as well. I find it surprises a lot of folk, with how quick it is. They were $23,000 here, but when holden stopped trading, i managed to pick mine up for $14,000 nz (new), amazing value in my opinion.
I mean the Spark does have 3 seat belts back there, in theory you could legally get 3 people back there. Just how comfortable it would be is going to depend on how big each person is. For a quick trip it shouldn't be too bad, on top of the lowered fuel economy since the vehicle will be weighed down a bit.
@@PRNTestDrive thanks a lot Sir! But I think I might get the Mirage I was bothered by the hole in the middle of the back seat. It feels like uncomfortable to be on that position and if you have 3 passengers at the back. I hope you do a review of the mirage in the future.

If this came in the mint colour I'd have been pretty happy with it. I'm glad you liked this episode, wanted to make it feel a little different than our usual reviews.
Honestly, I only see the base model Spark as being worth it. They usually sell for around 10K$CDN around here new. For the automatic ones, they're around 12K$CDN so yeah. I really don't see the point of buying a 2LT for 20K$ when for that much you can get a 2016 CLA250 or Audi A3 with under 50K km for that much, if not less. Good video nonetheless!
Great point, I'm sure the Sparks on the road are those entry-level trims also, either you want an inexpensive car without the frills, or you go for something used and get more bang for your buck.
In my case im a young single female in louisville (which is a town known for being somewhat violent and im not strong or violent at all) and my mom wanted to know i had a warranty so I dont have to deal with sketchy mechanics that take my money or cars breaking down in sketchy parking lots late at night when I get off from work. I wanted keyless entry because if something happens i won't be struggling with my keys to get in and start the car but also seat warmers because im from florida and not used to kentucky cold. Theres a ton of reasons I got mine new instead of used also, mainly I just wanted to start from scratch and document everything I have done to it over the next few years. But yeah I see where ur coming from and tbh if you think its a better deal then go for it
The 2LT is so much better then the base model. You get all the safety features that are not in the base model, plus everything is electronic, which is why I bought it. Oh, and yes, you can only get the sunroof on the 2LT.
I have a black 2019 Spark 1LT, and I love the features for the for the price point, the ride is better then I thought, though I wouldn't mind knowing the actual fuel efficiency figures.
Spark vs Mirage Spark: Better looking, handling, speed, ammenities, better dealer network Mirage: More reliable CVT7 programming, more comfortable, better mpg, more space in back, better warranty I picked the Mirage CVT, but would drive a Spark manual 5speed in a heartbeat
I'm glad to hear that you shopped the two of them. We had the Mirage years ago before starting TestDrive, but we see enough of them out here in Quebec.
I'd take this, only because the Mirage is a miserable car that I can't fit into. Years before starting TestDrive on this channel I was doing written car reviews, the Mirage was one I drove but couldn't drive comfortably as my head was touching the headliner.
Unfortunately we don't have either of those cars here in Canada. The Nissan Micra would probably be the most comparable, but I think it's about $5,000 less than this.
Bad biased review, sounds like he does not like it. I got the car and its sweet. I just wish I have gotten cvt. Cvt is smooth, awesome gas mileage, and handles like a go cart. Don't listen to this crap review, go test drive it and its awesome.

We drove the 2018 Hyundai Accent about a year ago: th-cam.com/video/NO0_SUcRpBw/w-d-xo.html Pricing and model trim wasn't finalized when we had this, so some of the information ended up changing before they went on sale in Canada like the actual names for the trim and MSRP.
That gives me an idea for a video, the cheapest cars from 10 & 20 years ago were pretty awful, not to mention some of the infamous ones over the last century like the Ford Pinto. This Spark might not ignite the fire inside us enthusiasts, but it's a hell of a lot better than the penalty boxes from the past, like you said!
@@PRNTestDrive Spot on, Nile! My friend had a 2011 Kia Rio.. A pretty "recent" penalty box.. Throughout this video, all I could think is how i'd rather have driven this little Spark!
I don't really notice any penalty in this. I used to own a Ford Focus and if anything my Spark is quieter and quicker on the freeway. Plus that infotainment screen can't be understated. It's so convenient not being stuck with whatever the car gives you and have Google Maps right in full view. I drove all the way from NYC to Minneapolis on mine in full comfort. Amazing what you get for so little nowadays.
If you absolutely need a new car, you really don't have to punish yourself with a city car. For 18k, you can have a 2019 Kia Forte with heated seats, heated leather steering wheel, AC, power everything, cruise control, 8inch infotainment with Android Auto/Apple Car play so basically a much bigger, much more comfortable and surprisingly (well not really) more efficient car (avg of 6.4L/100k). Add in good their leasing rates and you can easily get one for less than 200$/month, even more with a little bit of haggling. And let's be honest, you don't really need a city car in Quebec. Even in downtown MTL or Québec City, a compact car is very well suited and if you're not capable of driving a compact car in the city, maybe you should consider walking ;)
Great option also! The Forte we had was really nice, and those heated seats/steering wheel on the base trim are a huge plus. I'm personally looking forward to getting behind the wheel of the Forte5, I was at the launch even in Montreal a few months back and it looks really good.
I suppose so. Back when GM was selling these I have to imagine the lease/finance rates were competitive enough to make it appealing over a used vehicle, especially at the same price point. I'll admit I saw a Spark RS a couple days ago that looked pretty cute.
The game changed post-covid; new prices & used valued skyrocketed. This review could be more objective, but now must me taken with many more grains of salt.
A lot has changed, there's no doubt. I still don't think this is a terribly good car, but if you're in the market for something at this price point and don't have a lot of choice you could do worse.
I don’t understand this review. The size of a car does not change the pieces of a car. There is just as much to talk about a small car as there is about a larger car.
What’s there to not understand? Did I miss some important feature about it? Did we overlook a major aspect of the Spark just because the runtime of this episode was 9 minutes instead of 22?
It has nothing to do with the run time. It has to do with the fact that I don’t feel the vehicle was given a fair shake in the sense that you were constantly saying there’s nothing to talk about because it’s so small and laughing about the horse power. The size of the doors or the hood should not change the fair representation of someone that represents them self as a reviewer of automobiles.
Aside from the placement of the door handles, I don’t think I mentioned anything about the doors, their size, or the hood. I’m not going to embellish and sugarcoat like other TH-cam Channels, this car doesn’t offer a lot to discuss, and my episode reflects that. It’s a small car, it has very little power, I’m not quite sure what you expected coming into this episode, considering I presented it the way I saw it.
@@PRNTestDrive I mentioned the size of the doors and the hood because that's what you immediately refer to is the diminutive size of the car in general. My point is every car has the same parts. If you're going to review a car's interior exterior tail lights headlights performance wheels engine transmission all of those things are fair and relative to all vehicles. I was just sharing my opinion that the car should have been approached the same as any other vehicle that you review. Obviously you feel you approached it from a fair standpoint and that's fine I'm just one person sharing my opinion.
This car doesn't need 4 doors. it would look better and sell better if it had just two doors I mean, who wants to be the person relegated to the backseat of this thing?
It's a wonder why these city cars only come with 4 doors here. The older Golf 2 doors are all over the place here, I think having the option would be good for buyers who really only plan on using it for themselves.
Ideal city car and runabout easy to park cheap to run and insurance cheap? Unless you really need a a large vehicle that guzzles gas ???. What a waste of money 💰.
so ugly and so little vertical space, my car is only 20 cm longer but despite your same height, between 8 and 13 cm are left for headroom depending on seat position. and probably a little bit quicker. for very compact car ask european or asian brands, i think that American cars where never good in this segment
I'm surprised GM is holding onto this while killing off almost all their other sedans/hatches. I don't think GM's engineers had people like me in mind when developing this bad boy.

I suppose so. Back when GM was selling these I have to imagine the lease/finance rates were competitive enough to make it appealing over a used vehicle, especially at the same price point. I'll admit I saw a Spark RS a couple days ago that looked pretty cute.
right now you can get a base LS for under 10K plus freight. That is a bargain.

WELL, JUST HOW TALL ARE YOU GUY??? I AM 6 FOOT ONE INCH, THINKING ABOUT GETTING ONE, BUT I THINK IT IS NOT AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION CAR, NO???
Are the cap locks and 6 questions marks really necessary?
Him: "60! There's 60!
Me:The heck??🤨🤨
Him:' That's km btw"
Me: aahhhhh ahahah
I figured it was important to note that 😂
The game changed post-covid; new prices & used valued skyrocketed. This review could be more objective, but now must me taken with many more grains of salt.
A lot has changed, there's no doubt. I still don't think this is a terribly good car, but if you're in the market for something at this price point and don't have a lot of choice you could do worse.
Because it's so small, there's not a lot to say?
Not really. It’s a car. It had 4 wheels.
Teenager? Lol 😂 this car can be for 30 plus.
Fair enough
40 mpg
I believe it!
19K is over priced. If it could be 9900$ would be great
I suspect that most people who buy the Spark will look at the entry-level trim and not this fully loaded 2LT.
Last visit the dealer who offered me 125K fully loaded
@@michaelzo5428, were you pricing out an entire rental fleet of them?
Please stop saying "does have"!
It's hard to considering I stopped filming this video 4 years ago.
You don't have to be a college student, or a young person starting out to need this car.
