  • Doing a quick demonstration of this awesome Masterbilt De Luxe that Epiphone sent me. The first archtop guitar I've actually gotten a chance to play. I'm digging it and even used it in the new track I did with Andrea if you want to check it out in context:

    A little about me:
    Sean Daniel is a man. A man of simple needs and desires. And the one desire, no, the one NEED, that stands above all is to spread the challenges, joy and intellectual stimulus of music to people of Earth and beyond.
    Born on the mean streets of upper middle class suburban Chicago, Sean learned the ways of the world through the dizzying heights of success to the lonesome depths of failure and emerged with the promise of a better tomorrow reflecting in his eyes and fiery passion in his belly.
    He plays and teaches guitar on his TH-cam channel where he regularly releases original music and projects to the adulation of legions of fans, who often compare him to Chris Pratt and one time Ryan Reynolds. He’s currently in the market for a nice leather jacket.

    Great video! Refreshing to hear someone play something on an archtop that isn't jazz or blues licks.

    So, I don’t know exactly what model it is because I don’t currently have access to it, but my grandfather had an Epiphone arch top with the f-holes that he bought in the 40s just like that one. He’s the guy who first taught me to play guitar. I got a pic somewhere of him playing it while he was teaching me some chords.

    I want to by the same model. But I would like to know if is the guitar is loud enough to jam acoustic?
    Thank you so much

    • @seandaniel23
      @seandaniel23  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for watching! Definitely loud enough to jam with other acoustic guitars. Really the volume difference isn't much at all.

    • @Hyglom
      @Hyglom 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      This guitar is as loud as most flattop guitars I know. The sound is more midrange sounding and it has less bass than a normal Dreadnaugh or Jumbo guitar. If you play the guitar, it seems sometimes, that the volume of the guitar is less than the volume from a flattop guitar, because the sound radiation is more flatwise to the guitar top, but the people, which are listening to your playing, will have a contrary impression, while you are jamming.

    • @seandaniel23
      @seandaniel23  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well it has what's called 'longitudinal' bracing. I'm not an expert on bracing construction but it definitely feels well put together.

    The fact of the guitar having a solid top rather than laminate is very good, but it’s still molded into shape. As you know, original archtops had sculpted tops, not molded.

      The tops of the early epiphones were all carved. The backs of the high end models in the range were carved as well with only the lower end having pressed backs. The epis from before the war were more or less considered a slight step above gibson in quality.

    It's a good guitar no doubt about it, but if your looking for that signature archtop sound, you should just look for vintage harmony, kay, hofner archtops. They will sound close to a 30s to 60s epiphone and gibson archtops for a cheaper price. These new ones sound closer to a dreadnought to my ears having played them in the store. Those vintage archtops both have the sound and character in my opinion :D

    Great video. I was close to giving up on mine. It was dead spinding. Very dull . I could hear the sound board wood starting to flex, push out a sweet tone. It took a month. The electrics were awful, so we're the tuners, both replaced. It's my only guitar now.

    What kind of strings does this guitar come with? I’m a lazy former metal guitarist that has taken a liking to a jazzier brand of music 😉 I’ve got a “real”, traditional acoustic guitar, and love it, but I’m still in the market for a guitar with electric strings that I can play acoustically. There’s still a lead guitarist inside me that would love to see a marriage between these two worlds, I’m just always curious about these arch tops. Some of them have humbuckers in them, so it made me wonder. Can I get a hollow body, strap 0.10 electric strings on it, and get it to sound half decent? I don’t care for the pick up. Preferably it’s fully acoustic, just with electric strings. Maybe this guitar holds part of the answer.
