    Judge "played" the Giants. He had NO INTENTION of leaving the Yankees. He simply "played the game" his agent created for him by going out and meeting with the Giants, to make the Yankees nervous and up their price (to match the Giants offer). He played the Yankees also, because they did EXACTLY as he thought they might. Fortunately, one player does NOT a team make (the Giants will be fine). Negotiating player salaries in today's world is nothing by a chess game.

    @markhughw1 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Other teams have recognized that they need to lock up great players early, in their mid 20s, long before they reach free agency, if you think they are worth keeping. That way, you can give a ten year contract to someone who is still productive for most of their contract. The NYY don't do that, and that is why they overpaid and will have a player who, if they are lucky, will be worth $40 M a year for half of the length of the contract. That's what the NYY need to learn from this. Two years ago, they probably could have signed Aa for ten years for much less, taking him till he would be 38.

    They overpaid. If if the Yankees didn't overpay someone else would have. And Like was said, the bad PR and the message that it sends to the team if the Yankees DIDN'T resign him would have been terrible.

    What on earth is Stephen A talking about? Tanaka and CC. Did he forget those guys existed? Tanaka may not have been the best pitcher at any time, but he was certainly big time in the playoffs.

    Is this were the NFL, NHL or NBA, I would've said overpaid indeed. We're talking about a league without a hard salary cap here. Yankees, Dodgers and co. can spend the $$$ whenever they want to if they want to stay in contention, albeit at the cost of the small market teams.

  • @rcl1955ca
    @rcl1955ca ปีที่แล้ว

    They overpaid, I don't think they are as bad as the Mets who way overpaid for a 40 and 39 year old pair of pitchers. And gave 20 million to a career .269 hitter which isn't bad till you realize he's only played over 100 games twice in his career. They'll have the highest payroll in the history of sports and have to pay a luxury tax of over $65.0m . That's more than the payroll of a dozen teams in the MLB. It's a league which could definitely use a salary cap but that will most assuredly never happen.

    But how will this effect James and the Lakers?... I wish they had more (or any) baseball talk on ESPN, and hockey talk once in a blue moon would be nice. Nope, it's talk all about a team 3 games under 500. OKC has a better record, and SGA is playing out of his mind right now, and getting no attention.

    I think they underpaid!
    They got a home team discount, probably because he came up with them. If I was Judge, I wouldn't sign for less than 10/$400M. I have all the leverage, and a Mets fan, in Queens, worth $12 Billion, ready to attack. Without Judge last year, they were a .500 team, and they know it.

    The answer is no the Yankees did not over pay simply because of the business decision of it. Aaron judge is a legacy player for the Yankees meaning he will sell tickets every year he is there and lots of them because little boys need Heroes and they'll go to the ballpark to see him or at least convince dad to take him to the ballpark
