Another thing I found that helps you keep going is to have something fun outside of code to do regularly. For me, I love playing video games and reading so I make sure to carve out a few hours every day to play some video games. This helps when I'm spending 5 hours a day practicing code if I know I have some casual fun waiting for me that day. It's a great way to destress at the end of a long day too. I also find it great to set a minimum amount of time in a more flexible way. For me, I say that I will spend at least 1 hour a day practicing code. If I do more than that, great! But if all I can do is that minimum, I'm not going to beat myself up over it. Besides that, I keep a record of how many days I've been practicing for. I find it incredibly inspiring to be able to go look at this record and see that I've been consistently practicing for x months. It just lifts my spirits to see I have indeed been consistent at learning to code. One thing I've learned to not do is try to cut out other hobbies in favor of learning to code. I did that once and it led to me getting so burnt out I had to take a 2 month break from code in order to get my enthusiasm for it back.
So true! I tried to cut out art for code but ended up feeling unmotivated for both. Ive decided to keep doing what I do (ive already had a consistent schedule of drawing every day for an hour so it comes easier) and start with 20 minutes of code a day. Maybe i can slowly work my way up
DONT COMPARE URSELF WITH OTHERS. That statement led me here. I feel down when other people solve problems very quickly that I cant even start with. I am gonna start again ..Thanks a lot for the motivation🥰
I don't know how the TH-cam algorithm in its infinite wisdom knew I needed this video right now, but I really did. I'm an actor learning website design so I can have a flexible, non-table waiting job and have felt like I'm hitting a wall as I get into more complex backend topics like Authorization, Authentication, and stuff like that. Your optimistic, patient, and funny approach was a breath of fresh air and I have nothing else to say but thank you. I'm actually excited to get back to learning now.
I’m officially starting my journey to become a Full stack developer and finding balance in everyday to do’s while studying has been challenging, so your video was spot on. Thanks SO much for sharing this and your other videos 🙂
Thankyou so much, I'm just a 16 year old student, who wants to prepare for my senior high school strand. So recently, I was binge watching and binge coding, and then I forgot my exercises, my chores, and I'm just focused on practicing coding and stuff. Thank God, I'd found this video. Thank you so much, now all the anxiety, the pressure and stress is gone.
Your video editing skill is stupendous, to the extent that it overshadows the contents of this video. That's what I felt. Anyway, you are doing a splendid job at motivating beginners to code.
I'm a self-thought programmer and just the fact that sometimes I spend a lot of time, sometimes days to resolve a bug, even having a lot of problems to debug a system and googling how to fix it, is really stressful, and I'm talking about simple systems. It's discouraging for me. Sometimes I think about giving up, like, this is not for me, but the next day, that bug starts haunting me, and I go back. I can't give up, even knowing that I'm super slow. I really hope eventually this thing can get better with time! Thanks for the video, it was inspiring, especially at this time.
I'm a game developer and I found your "I quit" video today. It's really great that you can help other people and now, even full-time! I love this video and even I forget Tip #4 (04:28) sometimes. Thank you for your encouragement and tips. Wishing you the best 💖
Jessica's passion of making videos and teaching for free is a great job. You are very inspiring, your words make people motivated. Videos that you make are superb, no words for that. Thanks for being here:)

Im only about 1 month in to learning to code and literally as you said in the video im signed up to freecodecamp and following a udemy course. But I’ve got to a point where in trying to figure something out for myself without just copying what the guy on screen is doing and struggling a bit which is demotivating like heck! But good advice in this video, keep my end goal in mind and just stick at it, no doubt it’ll click eventually. Repetition is key so doing a little bit every day is better than cramming loads in and then burning out and doing nothing for weeks. Good luck to everyone else out there who’s in the same boat as me :)
@@TheCoderCoder Thanks, i just watched your other video explaining how you managed to get to where you were even without a CS degree and it was very inspirational. Not only are you teaching lots of people how to become web developers / coders, but you're personally teaching me how to make better TH-cam videos for my own personal channel. You make good videos, have great, amazing presentation, and awesome thumbnails. Thank you!

I love the way you explained it. I started learning web dev 9 months ago. Now I still feel like I haven't even started when I check what some guys do, even though they started some years back. thanks
Thank you for the video, it's been over a month now since I started to code on my own and seeing realistic videos like yours really keep me motivated and going!
I really spent 4 months learning coding. When I do exercises, I feel like I m nowhere near employment. I m from non software background. This video is really very good. This is for me.. Great video.
This video has really motivated me. I have been learning to code for 8 months and still have so much to learn. I have used what you said to set a two year goal for myself. Thanks. I have subscribed to your channel and am looking forward to listening to your advice and thoughts on other matters.
If you want to learn how to build web applications inna short time, then i Highly recommend this course on Udemy, it really takes you from a beginner to a decent developer: "learn laravel vuejs, build a tesla app"
This video tremendously helped me. I tried cramming lots of coding into one day for about two weeks and eventually gave up on coding. Now I am back to learning how to code and this video really helped me get back on track and also stay motivated. Thank you very much!
You like reading my mind and everything described perfectly, also talking about communities, not all people are very helpful and you need to stick to the people we are willing to help. and comparing to others.. wow. I do it all the time. So really a HUGE THANK YOU!
I almost lose my hopes in programming and then come to TH-cam to chill up my mind and your Video came... Your advices are not less than a Family Member. Thank a lot for this Motivation :)
Speaking of communities, from my experience, whenever I've asked for help with something, no matter how dumb I might feel in asking certain questions, someone has always been more than willing to lend a hand. I think every developer out there, regardless of skill level, really understands the struggle. So never feel like your questions are too dumb; even if someone tells you they are, that doesn't mean they're right. Don't compare yourself to others is a big one; I think many new devs frequently do this (I definitely used to), and that will only discourage you and hinder your ability to learn.
Hello Coder Coder, before I landed on my job(developer position) I watched Mayuko's content about self-taught developer, right now when I am trying to improve myself(to be a better developer) this video of yours helps me a lot. I just put this comment as a remembrance of my another checkpoint on this self-taught journey.
I have 3 years of experience in coding and time to time I experienced this feeling losing of motivation to learn and improving my skills. I always procrastinate and this is the root reason why I always feel demotivated. Lately I made a decision to uninstall all steam games in my pc. At first I was a bit hesitant but honestly never felt this hype again to go back in track and improve my skills since no distractions anymore. I'm on my first week of not playing video games and I hope this will continue in the coming years.
Learning on your own really cuts out a lot of traditional in class b.s. Sometimes traditional classes and instructors are so unhelpful, you might as well skip the parking fee, extra student fees, rushing to classes, fight for parking etc, teaching yourself can be hard but worth it. Thank you for this upload! 👍
*Don't* compare *yourself* *to* *others* :) Thanks for your words! I'm 15 and started learning coding for few months; Now learning Python...! I know there is nothing too early and nothing too late.
"It will come with time if you persist ." Thank you very much for the encouragement. I'm currently stuck with trying to make a responsive hero section with html and css. Just mastered that of navigation menu

The last one was really helpful..... I always knew somewhere that I get demotivated by seeing some people going ahead of me....I used to worry what if I'm left behind by all hypothetically. To some extent this also adds fuel because of healthy competition; but if you think about it too much you end up doing nothing in the belief that you're not capable. We should enjoy this exploring and learning; not just run with an intention of completing what others did. Thanks a lot sister
Just started learn to code using R...working as a researcher and student at the same time I am familiar with conventional ways to analyze data where you can just get the results by clicking your way through...but machine learning for data analysis is the way now and whether I like it or not...learning programming language is something you can't get away even for a social science researcher like me (which just started to learn basic coding in mid 30's)...
All the tips are definitely useful, but the most important one I think is the last one. Comparing yourself to others makes you demoralized, and then you think that you will never make it. Just take a leaf from others and use it in your life, NOT COMPARE.

It's soo relate for me now.. learning to code in my early 30's with no CS degree sometimes makes me demotivated due to so much stuffs I have to learn.. failed on companies' coding tests over and over again.. but you're right, I have to keep it up and stay strong on my path and don't compare it with others. Thank you so much 🙌
Wow thanks algorithm, this video got recommended to me just in time to remind me why I went back to studying mobile dev after a 4 year hiatus. Love your voice and demeanor, subscribed! Wish you luck :)
I just decided to change my major to CS , and luckily your channel came up. Thank you! Your videos are really inspiring and motivating me a lot. Hopefully I can get through this I find a job in this industry.
I wasn’t looking for this specific video.. I was actually looking for a video to help me get motivated for earning a dog. But lately I haven’t been motivated in coding either, so honestly this really helps! q
I would add: 'Go back to the fun stuff'. I was learning back end and didnt like it. So went back to front end and making some designs.. it raised my motivation and soon i'll be back to learn that back end skills💪🏼
I find learning a new tech can be daunting at first but after sticking with it you will see why other people use it in the first place. ie typescript, react, redux.
hi, thank you for the tips, I am 35 years old I enrolled in the university of food technology and for about 6 months I have been studying R in my free time about 1 hour and a half a day but I see that it is not enough because I make slow progress, never programmed in my life, it is sometimes frustrating like having unrequited love, I hope to make the two studies coincide in something good and exciting, and no less important is the work that allows me to eat. never give up!!!
The one thing I'm starting to realize about coding is its not terribly hard (of course I have my moments where i get frustrated), but what scares me a little bit is companies are really hiring you to solve problems... If I can code but I'm not the best problem solver... I might be in trouble; which makes me question if I should even continue to code in hopes of one day getting a job or just code for fun as a hobby. I hope that made sense. Cool channel BTW
I recently hit 1 year after I started learning code. It was hard and sometimes I was only able to code for 30 minutes a day. But I managed to stay consistent and now I finished my front-end web development degree from Team TreeHouse and learned React-Redux. My next goal is Shopify Liquid and getting some freelance projects.
Sometimes i definitely hate myself for going in this industry. feels like there is no stop from learning ... but then i also look at this from different perspective that is not typical boring job, doing same thing again and again and obviously financial freedom that it gives you. :))
This is actually useful for me, like right now, I am learning java rn, its not even for a job I am just learning it as a hobby, but idk I get demotivated too quickly. So thanks for this i guess
Honestly, you made my day a bit cause I m on my beginning process with html css and struggling or unfocusing with 2 weeks breaks in between my 5 days motivation.. it’s really hard and I very anxious in theses times. Thx for this words I ll try to follow your tutorials, I made some music mix to code on my page by the way , take a ear ;)
Thank you!!!! Every word you used is true. I so needed to hear this message. I never considered quiting, but staying motivated was becoming a real problem.

Wow thanks algorithm, this video got recommended to me just in time to remind me why I went back to studying mobile dev after a 4 year hiatus. Love your voice and demeanor, subscribed! Wish you luck :)
This advice is gold-nugget. This quality of video production deserves at least million sub. Keep it up
I just decided to change my major to CS , and luckily your channel came up. Thank you! Your videos are really inspiring and motivating me a lot. Hopefully I can get through this I find a job in this industry.
the first 50 sec was actually what's happening to me right now . Thanks for the motivation I needed
Watching just after I feel demotivated by coding!!
Have to say it pump me up alot.❤️
I wasn’t looking for this specific video.. I was actually looking for a video to help me get motivated for earning a dog. But lately I haven’t been motivated in coding either, so honestly this really helps! q
This is spot on. Learning something yourself is harder than getting qualified for Olympic.
I just love the way you say "let's get into it".. your contents are really helping me...
Thanks for watching!
@@TheCoderCoder you're welcome... keep creating great contents 👍👍
I just love the way in which you speak.
A Genuine big thank you from bottom of my heart. You are doing exceptional work
Oh my god, the amount of creativity in this video made me forget the whole topic, AWESOME WORK GIRL
I would add: 'Go back to the fun stuff'. I was learning back end and didnt like it. So went back to front end and making some designs.. it raised my motivation and soon i'll be back to learn that back end skills💪🏼
I find learning a new tech can be daunting at first but after sticking with it you will see why other people use it in the first place. ie typescript, react, redux.
hi, thank you for the tips, I am 35 years old I enrolled in the university of food technology and for about 6 months I have been studying R in my free time about 1 hour and a half a day but I see that it is not enough because I make slow progress, never programmed in my life, it is sometimes frustrating like having unrequited love, I hope to make the two studies coincide in something good and exciting,
and no less important is the work that allows me to eat.
never give up!!!
Being feeling really unmotivated lately to continue with my coding journey this really helped me thank you 💜
The one thing I'm starting to realize about coding is its not terribly hard (of course I have my moments where i get frustrated), but what scares me a little bit is companies are really hiring you to solve problems... If I can code but I'm not the best problem solver... I might be in trouble; which makes me question if I should even continue to code in hopes of one day getting a job or just code for fun as a hobby. I hope that made sense.
Cool channel BTW
It's like she was talking directly to me. All she described is true on my path. I really need multivation
You taught us a lot in minutes... How AWESOME you are...
I’ve been on and off three times in the past few years. Finally decided that I’m going to take this (coding thing) seriously.
Sometimes i definitely hate myself for going in this industry. feels like there is no stop from learning ... but then i also look at this from different perspective that is not typical boring job, doing same thing again and again and obviously financial freedom that it gives you. :))
i just love the way you explain and motivate. i wanna be the full stack developer by the end of 2021. it's my commitment. thanks
Your videos are helping me get back into web development...Thank you!!
This is actually useful for me, like right now, I am learning java rn, its not even for a job I am just learning it as a hobby, but idk I get demotivated too quickly. So thanks for this i guess
These tips are SO helpful Jessica. Thank you!!!!!
