I mean, they can be nuiscance for forest-owners. They just keep eating at the young coinifers and in autumn they rub their antlers off on the trees, which can be dangerous for said trees if they're not old enough.
I did't realize the message hidden underneath the traffic until the second time I listened to this episode. For those who don't know, I believe that Cecil is trying to warn Nightvale about Strex (and the revolution that is to come) and get them to stand up to their oppressors before it is too late.
It's one of the most memorable scenes in Disney media to date. Are you insinuating that you haven't seen any of the mandatory, subliminal messaging children's movies authorised by the state?
this show has a thing for wednesdays and time. first we have a wednesday that is cancled due to a scedualling error, then we have a wednesday that lasts forever. i suppose they put the two wednesdays together and created a super wednesday, capable of lasting even longer than two days... hello? sorry, someone is at my door......... disregard my previous statements. they have my family.
Theory time! I believe that Tamica has started a militia to counteract StrexCorp. Think about it. A couple of episodes ago, she announced "Our god is not a smiling god." Remember StrexCorp's first slogan? "Believe in a smiling god?" And that would make StrexCorp's trying to find Tamica make a whole lot more sense: They're trying to find and execute the leader of the anti-StrexCorp before she does too much damage.
This is one of my favorite episodes so far. It's not as irreverent as my other favorites like The Shape in Grove Park, but Cecil's constant undertone of subversion is glorious in its own way. And Tamika Flynn terrifies me. She's already smarter and deadlier than anyone has a right to be, and she's only 13. The potential for her is TERRIFYING. Especially if she will, as she says, "Always be going where she is going.".
trying to explain to your parents that you listen to a grown man talk about insane topics that only happen in an insane town is probably one of the most difficult things I've ever done
Ah ha! So Cecil is resisting this Strex corp. I guess they are the big antagonists. And that smiling god. And I bet Dana will somehow be connected too.
I don't know why but I find it easier to fall asleep with this on but a downside is having to back track on the videos after you wake up to refresh what happened in the episodes that you slept through.......
That and remembering what episodes you were listening to while your family is sitting next you you listening in the background. I might be converting my family to WTNV.... >:D
Has anybody here read Dawn by Elie Wiesel? For those of you who have, Cecil's role in Night Vale's resistance reminds me of Ilana from the book. He does not usually take a physical role in the fighting but he uses his voice to inspire others. Cecil is referred to as the Voice of Night Vale, Ilana is called the Voice of Freedom. Both are driven by a sense of extreme civic pride and duty. Personally, I find the Strexcorp arc one of the biggest shows of Cecil's strength. He knows he is taking a big risk, but is willing to do anything to ensure Night Vale knows what they need to do.
Night Vale must stand against StrexCorp! I hope Tamika Flynn kicks some asses. Also, Cecil was really philosophical today, and his messages are interesting.
(17/6/21) The chaos of Cecil trying to fight for his microphone is all I could imagine during the weather break. Btw, nice weather we're having today. This is the second weather that I didn't skip. The first one was, of course, WAITING FOR THE BUS IN THE RAIN IN THE RAIN WAITING FOR THE BUS IN THE RAIN
I just love how even an evil corporation of the smiling god can't make Cecil shut up. My almighty glowcloud, this man doesn't have a filter. He never did even when he tried. Heee
This is a strange episode to put this specific headcanon on, but you know what? I don't care. I used to imagine Cecil to look like his actor. After some thought, I've decided that Cecil looks fairly normal (at least, in day to day life, specifically around Carlos) but, when he has to do the radio, then the abilities of his third eye (or mind's eye, whatever) show. then, he's able to see everyone in the town. This explains a Story About You, and the episode before this one, when he explains what people are doing as they're doing them. The point is, if Cecil had plainly visible tentacles and/or a third eye all the time, then he wouldn't be Carlos' boyfriend, but rather his science experiment. No matter how kind he is, he's a scientist first. And how did Cecil get the powers? It was said in Cassette that he was selected for this job when he was really young. Maybe there's always one radio host at one time (the Voice of Night Vale, iirc) and those powers come with the gig? Now Cassette may also be my downfall as well, since there's a really big hole in my theory made by the ending of that episode, specifically that this Cecil could be a clone, and he took the original Cecil's place. I could be wrong. idk anymore.
*SPOILERS FOR LATER EPISODES* I have since listened to the episode Best Of, where the previous Voice of Night Vale is brought in as a special guest. There, he hears his own death report. Thoughts?
I meant Leonard Burton, old Night Vale Voice, and Cecil's boss years ago. He takes Cecil's place for an episode (long story) and ends up playing tapes of Cecil throughout the years of him being on the show. It ends with Leonard listening to a tape of his own eulogy from Cecil, which implies that his death was pretty brutal. This may be wrong, but I see it as a look into the job system of Night Vale a bit. Like, I almost imagine each citizen having their own job and a power that allows them to do the job for as long as possible or at the highest amount of quality. Cecil's omnipotence makes him a hell of a reporter, even if his emotions get in the way, and timeless screen legend Lee Marvin is always celebrating his 30th birthday, making him literally timeless. When they are useless, they die (especially in the case of someone with a job and power as important as Leonard Burton). idk why he lives, though. I assume that the only reason why he can see it is because his power is strong enough. idk.
I didn’t expect this episode to go so hard, holy shit. God, the urgency in Cecil’s voice during the traffic and after the weather is so good. Go get them, Tamika!
The weather this time made me imagine this music playing while Cecil is doing the microphone thing so he can keep transmitting his voice to us and then jumping a window and fleeing the area like a spy. It's a funny thing to imagine...
Helicopters=the birdsThe man= Nightvale as a wholeOther things always come for Nightvale. The forces of Nightvale are to be gathered to upside against their oppressor, StrexCorp. Nightvale is scarred. NightVale is, along with everyone and everything else, isn't real.
+1210Nique I'm still not sure I 100% understand it myself, but I took it as Cecil trying to get a message to the rest of Night Vale as subtly as he could. The man was attacked by birds, and he knows he never actively did anything to them, but his complacency may have been taken as an offense. Doing nothing, letting bad things happen, doesn't let you off the hook. And now something else is coming for this man, and all he can do is wait for it to happen. Cecil is trying to tell Night Vale that the worst thing they can do is lay low until it all blows over, because if they don't stop Strex, it will never blow over. Things will just get worse and worse and worse. Also, the "what does it mean to be a hero? To be human?" line ties in pretty nicely with Cecil's words at the end of the episode. We don't need heroes. We can't wait for someone else to come in and fix everything. We have to do it ourselves.
Omg....okay so at the beginning he's like doing the red sky at night sailors delight thing right?? Well about a half hour before I listened to this my mum and I were talking about the sky and that rhyme......I am now worried that the secret police may be monitoring my actions as I did make a comment on how stupid it is that they don't believe in angels as I met Erika one of Old Woman Josies angels.
