Roaming wild on the ranges of SE Oregon with friend Alice (Pony’s Wild West Images). 2240 images and video clips to go through. An epic 4 day camping trip in mustang territory of SE Oregon. Temperature ranges icy 28 overnight, to low 70s during the day. Grateful for clear blue skies, finally free of wildfire smoke on the west side of Oregon. No moon and the deep dark night sky was the perfect canvas for the countless stars, even planet Mars hung out with us- huge in it full phase and close to our planet on it's orbital track around the sun... front and center dominating the east sky above the Steens highlands.
We first stopped at Palomino Buttes and got lucky seeing a congregation of multiple bands in large 30 horse herd. We also looked for wildlife along the Malheur, where we spotted a variety of waterfowl and a mule deer pair. When we got to Steens, the first mustang to greet us was Shaman. He still has mare Jocelyn with her yearling colt, Joaquin. Highly likely her next foal will be Shaman’s. Near the end of the trip, we met a brand new silver pinto colt of mare Sunshine and Juniper- perhaps just a day or so old- already full of personality!
We saw numerous familiar bands but we had to work hard, hiking miles. We also had a “Let’s go there and see” moment without visual guarantee of horses.... but it paid off with very wild unknown mustangs running toward us- I had to blink several times in case the desert dust was causing this fantastic illusion.

I love the mustangs, they are free and they bring back the wild west and I love all of that!! I love horses and it's in my blood , keep showing them.

The way you capture the intimate relationships of these magnificent horses sometimes brought me to tears. I am impressed with the number of bands that still occupy The Steens range, especially in light of how many horses the BLM has recently removed from the western ranges in 2021. I hope these bands are somehow out of reach of the BLM. Thank you for sharing your work - it kindles some hope for the future of our beloved wild mustangs.

I COULDNT BELIEVE when the four unknowns stop and EACH one have their ears forward for the absolutely perfect shot !!! It was for me anyways.. thanks for the vid... I have forgotten while watching this that I had such a horrible night at work. Horses just seem to make everything better !!! 👍❤️🐴

Oh, my gosh, these horses are just magnificent !! Their colors are so beautiful. That colt with the golden red ears on a background of dark grey is one of a kind, so beautiful ! I wish I could give a better description of this colt. I love the different and unique color collages of these horses.You have to watch carefully to see how they communicate with each other. Thank you so much for sharing this great video with us, I hope you realize how much joy you give to your audience here, I'm sure I speak for others. You are a FINE PHOTOGRAPHER !!

I’ve loved these animals since I was a little girl & though I’ve never owned a horse of my own they’ve always been important to me,I really believe that there’s something almost magical about wild mustangs the love they have for family & freedom is truly inspiring as well as each horses unique spirit & the joy of being wild & free going about their lives,you are so blessed to be able to go out and take such amazing videos/photos of these herds,what gorgeous content it is,I just came across your recent video with the song Mustang Soul & WOW what incredible footage you got of some magnificent horses,my favorites are sweet little filly Amata(she just stole my heart)Amata if it’s spelled Amada means beloved in Spanish & so does her dad Amado’s name which is very fitting I think because she looks like him.💖💖 Sunshine’s little Pinto colt is also beautiful i love his markings. I also had a question for you: I went to your site & saw a few pictures I possibly would like to buy including the one of Amata but I didn’t see prices,how much is each one ?? Thank you for sharing the horses with us & for raising awareness about them I truly hope we will always be able to see them wild & free as they should be for decades to come,they are important @ very special.🤗🐴💕🌈
Thank you so very much, Shannon! The spelling Amata also means beloved too :) Her mother is Aamiyah, which also is a form of "love" as does the stallion Amado, like you said. I was captivated by that little filly when she just couldn't take her eyes off of me and her blinking is forever engrained in my head. What a beautiful video. I loved seeing all of the bands and most intriguing were the unidentified bands at the end. They were certainly curious about you as well. So interesting to hear the coyotes calling and I could almost feel that wind. I wouldn't know how to go about choosing a favorite band as they are all so unique. Thanks for sharing.

Great video - I'm amazed that some of these really wild bands are letting you in so close even though they don't recognize you. Shows how much you know about looking 'unthreatening' even while you are trying to keep long lenses pointed at them!
