    I just want to add that you can get graphite in heavier weights similar to steel shafts. I went from Nippon Modus 105 to Project X LZ graphite and the shaft weight is pretty close and my irons are still very workable and has helped me with elbow pain.

    Graphite shafts in irons feel stiffer than the same flex in steel. I always played stiff in steel but for graphite I might go reg flex. I was shocked and initially thought it would be the opposite. Just my observation.

    I just purchased the Mizuno JPX 900 Forged irons and played with them for the first time today. They have the UST Recoil 9R5 F3 graphite shafts. I hit them 8 yards further than the KBS Tour 90's I tried, Straight with both. Graphite's a little more draw with them. Plus I'm 63 now and soon to be 64. Big difference for me as my steel shafts were stiff and the clubs almost 20 years old.

    I changed to graphite shafts when I recently purchased king cobra F8 irons. Notice the club is lighter. I can't really go at the ball and hit it hard. Easy swing only. You can't overswing I notice. Also you don't get the feedback in your hands on the strike.

    In Graphite kick point and torque is vital, not just flex. I’ve used graphite for 20 years due to injuries. From X flex to stiff. Right now Aerotech 110 stiff. Consider doing another vlog using very stiff low torque graphite. Thanks for all you do! Especially now. Stay safe!

    I am a visually impared senior golfer who swings a 7 iron about 65 mph. You will be thinking , he needs a senior graphite shaft. Actually over the years I have discovered that I am much better off with a soft or one stepped regular flex light weight steel shaft. The reason is torque. I don't always it the ball perfectly, often hitting just behind, or just up on the ball. The hight torque of a senior graphite will often send the ball off in an unwanted direction. Steel will usually send it toward the green. Granted often after stinging my hands. My new Wilson LP irons ave done a lot to improve my ball striking.

    Like club heads, shafts (both steel and graphite) should be fit to the player. Try all brands you can and multiple shafts. I am lucky to have a fitter near me that has that capability. I have lost some speed over time (driver is at 104 instead of 112 nowadays) and a full TrackMan fitting pointed to the best combo of head and shaft for me(TaylorMade P770 with Mamiya Recoil ES 780 F4 graphite shafts). I hit Ping, Titleist, Mizuno, Callaway and Cobra (skipped PXG, too pricey). The combo actually pushed my distance back up to what I use to hit with my Mizuno MP69/Project X 6.0 combo a few years back. Dispersion also was squeezed so my accuracy ticked up a notch. Also I haven't had any problem shaping the ball in both directions or in elevation. Didn't care for the TM wedges though and found the best combo for me was Vokey SM7 with standard steel wedge shafts.

    I replaced the steel shafts in my Nike Covert 2.0 irons with the Kuro Kage Black shafts two years ago. I picked up about 5 yards per iron, but the biggest improvement was that my tendonitis in my elbow has disappeared. I prefer the feel of steel, but not the pain. I cannot say for sure that the switch was the cure, but it was coincidental.

    The new graphite irons shafts is more fun and more relaxing because lightweight , more distance and more forgiving .
    UST ES780 F4 is very good for steel iron shafts replacement . You need consistent swings but in golf course will deplete your stamina on whole 18 holes and your swings will be getting weaker as weaker . Heavyweight steel shafts will getting inconsistent swings because you getting tired and you will have more tension on your muscle and trying to swings same speeds will getting bad results

    Good stuff. I just bought some Speed Blades with graphite shafts. I have tendinitis in my elbow (tennis elbow) and the softening through impact makes a good difference for comfort with me. Around 20 years ago my pro put me into a new set of clubs with graphite shafts and neither 2 nor 3 iron because "you're not good enough and you're losing flexibility". That hurt the ego then but it was pretty accurate. Ever since I've used graphite and find it a bit easier on the body.

  • @wolfman6252
    @wolfman6252 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Nice comparison. It is tough to wrap your head around graphite vs. steel. This was helpful. I too like the i200's. I was fitted by Ping and hit their new gear except the blades. I had hit the i200's before with steel and really liked the club and its look in front of the ball. I just hit the steel shafts inconsistently. The graphite shafts allowed me to hit the ball much more consistently and felt better as well. I did note thought the same thing that you discussed in that I found it a bit more difficult to move the ball. I hit the ball high anyway so I think the technology will allow me to aim at the target and still stop it. That is my hope anyway. Good Fun!

    I like to use a quality steel shaft (you have better results with graphite, than I do)
    Although 1st thing I do is un-lengthen the shaft, re-swingweight the club & install new Golf Pride Muti-Compound Mid-size +4 grips. It feels just right to me.
    I guess you could say all my clubs are re-built & personalized.
    I have some in graphite , I do the cut, weight, & grip on them.

      @timarmington1047 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do u bend the irons more upright after you cut them down? For every inch u cut it down the club becomes 2 degrees flatter. Also wondering about your grip choice??? I love the mcc+4 as well, but after cutting it down it takes a ton of lead tape or tungsten powder as well as tip weights to get the club back to where it was originally swingweighted. I lighter grip like a gp tour velvet will help with sw issues.

So here is what happens --150, 145, 152, 158, 180, 150, 155, etc. I have never figured out why. Pretty much across the board too, even with the wedges.

    Regular steel vs Stiff graphite shafts. Is their stiffness pretty much the same? I'm a newbie to the sport, just a little over two months. With regards to shafts, I currently have irons with Steel Regular flex shafts. Although the label on the shafts say S FLEX so not sure if I'm really swinging a Regular flex. But anyway, I'm thinking of changing to lighter Graphite shafts because of my slow swing speed and a bit of hand & shoulder pain, but I'm not sure what Flex would suit me better - Regular or Stiff? I'm thinking since graphite is a softer shaft already than steel, maybe Regular would be too soft or whippy so I'm leaning towards Stiff for a graphite shaft. I do have Stiff shafts for my driver & 3wood which I'm fine with. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance

That is starting to affect my golf game quite a bit, I play Srixon Z565 irons with Nippon stiff shafts a around 105 grms I'm sure I could fine a graphite shaft near that weight that I would like. One small critique I wish you would turn down the music a little when you are hitting it's a pretty loud and jarring change from your talking I also like to hear the sound of the strike.

    You really need to do this one more time. (And read up on the fact - This old one is kinda embarrassing, really!)
    Most of your graphite information are way of base. Lighter?! No, only if you want it to be. You have iron shaft in the 60 gram category so most graphite are heavier, but, okay you can get graphite in the 40 gram category. (But also as heavy as you need it to be.) The thing you playing with (as always) are the feel, the flex, the tipping point and the spin. Millions of options out there and to get the best ones you take the one with tread of "iron" over the graphite. (Some might even look like an iron - That´s the one the professional goes for.) You get al of the benefit of a graphite (less vibration) and all of the workability of the best irons.
    You also say they are straighter when you don´t need it to be. (problem shaping the shot) No, wrong again! That´s only happen if you choice the wrong shaft. Try it again and lets do it now, okay?!

    ???? What are the specs on the shafts??? Playing length, shaft weight, torque, kick point, flex(are you assuming that the flexes are what the letter is), PING does not make shafts-so who were they contracted too, False-graphite does not add speed ... how the shafts accepts the load applied gives you better or not better shots, are the shafts spinned or SST, etc.. You leave out way toooooo many variables that affect a specific shaft to a golfer. You need to go to a shaft performance school and a fitting school, then you may have something more informative to say about shafts.

    To be honest I don't see any different I'm 55 and short with a few mobility issues especially my left shoulder, but I hit my 7 iron 130 with either steel or graphite?

    Maybe the steel shaft went further on the first hole because you pulled it?? Pulled shots usually go further.

      @@JamesRobinsonGolf yes really. You seemed surprised in the video that the steel shaft shot went further.

    Cant say lack of control with the graphite shaft because you couldnt draw the ball. You were pulling the steel shots the whole vid..

    James . . . Honestly, who does that music appeal to? You’ve got to stop delegating that job to the thirteen year old down the street.

    All I saw was you have an inconsistent golf swing and just peddled bro myths about steel vs graphite. If you’re able to hit a high, low, left, or right shot with your driver, fairway woods, or hybrids, then there’s literally no reason you couldn’t do it with graphite shafts in your irons. There’s way too much cliche in golf equipment.
