I spent a bit of time at icon at different points during festival, as well as seeing its build being finished in the week before..it is visually stunning even without any effects, massive, beautiful. With effects, also amazing, however I found the djs didn't play the sort of music that gave the structure it's due..it needed some absolutely banging German style techno in my opinion..it might have played it, but not the times I was there...I watched for a bit then moved on. Found the avant guarde music not danceable. I couldn't engage totally as the music didn't hit me viscerally..absolutely amazing structure /effects though..
The only artists that really did it a service was over.mono. Having said that, listening to the raw grime bass notes from Joy Orbison was also pretty insane.
You can slam us with all the adjectives about this being "next level" or "Monolithic" or blah blah blah. It's still a lot of effort for easily some of the shittiest music around today and the mouthbreathers who attend this kind of bullshit are really not that hard to impress.
