By not holding up, you cancelled the easter egg, making you live. Honestly really clever on Potato's part. You all should try using this in your Mario Maker 2 levels.
That's super funny, because I beat the level a different way! You can loop through the checkpoints to acquire two keys and bypass the redcoin, not intended as you need to die after the checkpoint in order for it to work (which wouldn't upload the level) but it works for me!

I know the muncher one but not the skull platform You put the munchers on top of the red 2 state blocks with note blocks underneath so that when you hit the on off switch the munchers drop onto the note blocks, making them jump out of the lava
2 pieces of SMM2 physics are in play with the White Semi-Solid Spike Tube section: -Holding Down on a white semi-solid in SMB3 causes Mario to hop up a bit. -In tight spaces like that, Mario will remain ducked if you let go of Down. So the trick is to get into the tunnel and then let go of Down for a few seconds.

The worst/best thing about it is that Dave has to “relearn” how to play troll levels, since now with the new assets and stuff there’s a whole new set of trolls that are possible and ones that aren’t anymore (at least I think)
Nintendo just needs include a troll tag and an option to not include in the endless. That way if you produce a super complex/troll level for fun, which many enjoy. You don't curse people's runs. TAS tag would be okay too I think.

Just an fyi. Once past the first block you can let go of duck, and you only have to hold duck for the last block. The game has a sort of autoduck where if you only have to duck for the first and last blocks. You use the autoduck to avoid the the smb3 easter egg where you do a tiny jump on white platform if you hold down as it causes you to jump enough to hit the spikes.
